Hello friends! I was deciding what to do for another article and every time I logged onto BBS another article idea was taken! I might have a couple more up my sleeve but for now let's dive into the 2036 Contract Year teams. There are 3 of them so it should actually be pretty interesting CY especially considering the Lakers and Blazers are in the West and the same division. Let's start out with the most successful GM of this version of BBS entering his first ever Contract Year.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Svedda enters his contract year for the first time in this version of BBS. The Cavs are definitely the most successful franchise of this version. They have won 6 championships. That's right 6! Been to the playoffs 30 times. Svedda has won 1838 games with a winning % .623. WOW! The only team in league history to hit these types of numbers. Most wins, most playoff wins, most championships, 2nd most playoff appearances to the Knicks. Lots of success. Lots of winning.
But now, Svedda will have to face his most difficult challenge yet. The dreaded contract year is not one to mess around with. This is why tons of GMs over the years have tried to go for it in year 3. While it may fuck up your rebuild or you may be shooting your load a bit too early ....it kinda makes sense to go for it, right? Injury plagued seasons happen all the time. Older players could take hits in TC, etc, etc. Lots of stress and anxiety goes along with the Contract Year. No one wants to deal with that BS!!! BBS DOESN'T STRESS ME OUT!!
Projected Starting Lineup:
Somtochukwu Cyril C 6'10'' 240 30 B- C- F+ A A- C (Free Agent)
Alex Hannum PF 31 6'7'' 210 C+ C C- B B+ B
Julius Avery SF 6'8'' 225 32 B- A C- B- B- C (Free Agent)
Terrell Thompson SG 32 6'2'' 225 A- A- C A- C C
Saul Mariaschin PG 30 5'11'' 165 C A B A C C
Bench:
Mike Smith C 27 6'9'' 245 B- C- C- B+ B- D
Darrell Brown SF 31 6'2'' 175 B- B+ C A- C+ C
Parker Russell SG 30 6'6'' 216 B- A C B+ C+ C
I think the Cavs have a very good shot at making their CY with the lineup constructed above. They have some space to sign Cyril and Avery so that should be no problem. As long as they bring them both back they look like a very good playoff squad with a solid bench. Saul and TT is a lethal scoring punch. Avery-Hannum-Cyril providing the stocks and boards up front. They look good. If they don't bring them both back though I will seriously question it and I could seeing it be a struggle to the finish line. Time will tell! FA will be interesting.
DB's projection: 49-33
CY: Make it
Los Angeles Lakers
Nanzzzzz! Where in the world is Nanz. My good pal Nanz enters his contract year once again. The last time he did this he won a championship. Could another ring be in store for the Lakeshow and their handsome GM Nanz? Well let's take a look. Nanz is not one to post much on the boards like others but he is always around. He is consistent. He knows how to build a winner and knows what he is looking for. He is also one to crack a joke and keep the people smiling. That's why they love him in LA. Handsome, charismatic, suave.
I'm sorry...I just lost my train of thought. ANYWAY, Nanz has been to the finals 3 times in this version of BBS winning 2 championships. Not bad..not bad at all. Some people would love to have that success.......The Lakers have only been to the playoffs a modest 17 times which is actually quite surprising. But anyway, Nanz has had a lot of up and down years but has built some nasty teams as well. Kiss the rings as he would say. He might say that. Sounds like something he would say.
Projected Starting Lineup:
Victor Wembanyama C 32 7'2'' 210 A- C- C+ A- A- C
Don Barksdale PF 31 6'6'' 200 A- A- C B B B
Dario Stojakovic PF 29 6'11'' 269 B+ A- D+ C+ B C
Trenton Richardson SF 30 6'9'' 227 A- B+ C- B C+ D
J.W. Fullerton PG 5'10'' 175 31 B A- B- A C C (Free Agent)
Bench:
Raven Anders C 6'8'' 246 30 C C+ C- A- A- D (Free Agent)
Harrison Mix SF 6'6'' 213 31 A- A- C+ B+ C C (Free Agent)
Jalen Lewis C 6'10'' 245 31 B+ C C A- A- D (Free Agent)
Andre Marion C 6'8'' 217 30 B+ C C+ B+ B+ B (Free Agent)
Joe Rice SG 6'8'' 235 29 B+ A- B- C+ D- D (Free Agent)
Don Bagley PF 6'7'' 220 25 C+ B- C A- B- B (Free Agent)
Zaine Winscott SF 32 6'8'' 223 B- A- A B A- C
Nanz has a ton of free agents. Doubtful he can bring them all back. Probably the most important thing right now is getting J.W. back. He needs a PG and Nanz needs some depth. Zaine is one piece that is already on the roster and a very good player. He will flourish in the 6th man role on the Lakers. Nanz has built a very good squad this offseason. I'm digging it. Adding Vic, Don, Dario and Trenton. All very good pieces. They look like they will get tons of boards. Plenty of scoring. Definitely a playoff contender. All it takes is a little CY pressure for Nanz eh? See what can happen?!?
DB's Projection: 50-32
CY: Make it
Portland Trail Blazers
It's always weird to write about yourself but here we go! DB's Blazers (me, lol) enter their second CY. This go around DB tried making it in his 3rd year and fell short by 1 game to make the playoffs and 2 games to get his 42 wins. SAD!!! FUCK! What a goof! The Blazers have been in the playoffs a ton in this version of BBS but have constantly fallen short of the championship dance. They also have only entered the WCF...twice! Very sad. Very sad. There was a reason why DB went by 2nd Round Don. I think there was a time in the first 20 or so seasons in this BBS where he would constantly lose in the 2nd Round. Classic. Never ever getting over that 2nd round hump the Blazers have shockingly reached the playoffs 25 times. That's 4th best in BBS. Still a big goose egg for finals appearances.
Projected Starting lineup:
Chet Holmgren C 34 7'1'' 193 C+ B B+ B A- C
Rip Gish C 25 6'5'' 208 B+ C- C- B A A
Jonathan Kuminga SF 33 6'10'' 211 B+ A- C A B- B
Frank Ramsey SG 23 6'3'' 190 B+ A- B- C+ C A
Loy Doty PG 29 6'3'' 150 B- C+ B A C C
Bench:
Bob Peterson SF 22 6'5'' 210 C B C- B+ C+ A
Gene Rhodes SG 27 6'1'' 170 C A- C- A C C
Jewell McDowell PG 22 5'9'' 165 C B A+ C+ D+ C
The Blazers brought back their former Number 1 pick and fan-favorite Chet Holmgren. Now in his 15th year, Chet really has found his role. Crashing the boards and big time stocks. He doesn't give a fuck about scoring anymore. He can't do it. He can't HIT! The original Ding Dong boy is back to save the GM who drafted him number 1 overall...but will Chet and co be enough to save Don? The Blazers starting five is solid. They're strapped up against the HC due to Kum daddy's large salary. In hindsight, probably not the best decision but at the time the Blazers thought they were solid enough to make the playoffs last year. Kuminga is still a very good player but making that much money really puts any team in a bind. The Blazers 1-5 is solid but the bench leaves a lot to be desired especially in the front court. Do the Blazers have a move or two in them to provide depth up front? Time will tell. I think we have enough to win but it's going to be close.
DB's projection: 45-37
CY: Makes it
Thanks for hanging! See you lads around the boards!
