2037 Draft Grades (#15-29)
15. Washington Wizards – Ed Wiener - SF 6'3'' 190 20 C+ C+ C B- C A
Analysis – Jah was definitely swinging for the fences with this pick with a classic low risk, high ceiling kind of gamble. The Wiz reset last season so they could afford to take a chance on Wiener (pause). Will Wiener be a winning player? Who knows these guys typically don’t develop. At best, maybe he’s Dick Furey or at worse he’s John Oldham (who?).
Grade: C
16. LA Clippers (from Jazz) – Dick Hemric - PF 6'6'' 220 22 C C D+ C+ B B
Analysis – The last of the Clippers (5!) first round picks and we’re going from a Weiner to a Dick. Hemric looks okay as a utility big – good strength and some stocks along with getting some boards. Seems like a decent pick here but personally would have gone in a different direction especially since the Clips already had Horan.
Grade: B-
17. Sacramento Kings – Dick Boushka - SF 6'5'' 209 21 B- C- D+ C C+ B
Analysis – String of dicks here. Boushka looks interesting – maybe can be a reserve with camps. He probably can’t play SG because his C- outside which probably means 0 3PT shot but he looks to be a decent SF maybe with development.
Grade: B
18. Dallas Mavericks – Al Ferrari - SF 6'4'' 190 22 B C C- C D+ A
Analysis – Such a cool name. And maybe he’ll be nice under the hood. But a D+ rating for boards and no 3PT shot kind of wrecked Ferrari for me. He can’t survive really at SF with low C/D boards and he can’t shoot well enough at 2 guard so he’s really just a backup at this point unless he’s camped early and correctly and indeed has A potential. But at #18, it’s not that bad and could do worse.
Grade: B-
19. Boston Celtics (from Raptors) - Don Schlundt - C 6'10'' 225 22 C D+ D+ B- B B
Analysis – I liked Don. I think he’ll be a nice player in the league and had him on my list at #22. At worse, he’s a 3rd big and at best maybe he can start one day. It’s a safe pick for break here in the middle of the 1st.
Grade: B+
20. Cleveland Cavaliers (from Blazers) – Jerry Mullen - SF 6'5'' 200 22 C+ B+ D B+ C+ C
Analysis – Mullen was a no notes guy but he’s got some interesting tid bits to him that maybe leads you to believe Spence made him a valuable role player. He’s a 3 & D guy kinda like Vedda pointed out similar to Trevor Ariza. This is the same GM who found Oskar Rodeen who was a decent big once upon a time. Anyway, Mullen notes say not a lot of volume but looks interesting.
Grade: B
21. Portland Trail Blazers (from Lakers) – Bob Armstrong C 6'8'' 220 22 B+ C C- C C+ C
Analysis – Another no initial notes big. Poor handles but has some stocks along with good strength, jumpshot and volume and no jumping. I like the pick, Donnie at this stage.
Grade: B+
22. Orlando Magic (from Knicks) – Denver Brackeen - PF 6'4'' 190 24 B+ C+ C+ C C C
Analysis – Similar to the Reiter pick at #9, just taking a chance. Maybe I like Denver – his profile just seems interesting. Could be a total whiff too – we’ll see.
Grade: C+
23. Atlanta Hawks – Ed Conlin - SF 6'5'' 200 22 C+ C+ C- B C B
Analysis – Not a lot of questions on Conlin in the notes thread. From a smaller NY school in Fordham, and looks like he can do a bit of everything as well as defend. Decent pick here for DBW.
Grade: B-
24. Washington Wizards (from Grizzlies) – George Swyers - SG 6'3'' 180 20 B C+ C- C+ C C
Analysis – Truth be told, I was torn between Swyers and Brackeen at #22. Finally settled on Brackeen but Swyers made me think. He’s got the volume but no 3PT and poor handles. Felt like blowing camps on those attributes makes it not worthwhile for me but love it for Jah here at 24.
Grade: B+
25. New Orleans Hornets (from Cavs) – George Leach - SF 6'4'' 200 20 C+ B- C- C+ C A
Analysis – Great pickup by Pig here with Leach. The former Penn star slid all the way down to 25 after some not so great notes on him. Although if Leach has some potential in the tank, he could grow pretty fast and he’s only 20. Good get here in my opinion.
Grade: A-
26. New Orleans Hornets (from Cavs) – Howard Sessums - PG 6'1'' 185 24 B- B- B- C C C
Analysis – Howie looks interesting. Solid offense, some steals but just ok handles. Could be something there and you could do a lot worse at this point in the draft. Nice job.
Grade: B+
27. Philadelphia 76ers (from Bulls) – Dick Howard - PF 6'6'' 210 22 C D+ D+ C+ B C
Analysis – Could not find a lot of info on Mr. Howard. I didn’t see any questions or notes on him either. Looks like he can board and defend a little. Not sure what to make of it to be honest – I liked a couple others here though.
Grade: C+
28. Denver Nuggets – Bob Patterson - SF 6'4'' 205 23 B+ C C- C+ C+ C
Analysis – Bob looks pretty alright. Notes seem okay as well but does jump a lot like some of these other guys. Nothing jumps of the page but maybe he’ll pan out in Denver.
Grade: B-
29. New Orleans Hornets – Forfeit
Analysis – Don’t blame him
Grade: A+
