1. Obvious the big topic is CY. 3 Gms lost to the process. Are you as mind blown as me that 3 missed?
Orlando Magic Johnson - Yeah, I kinda am actually. 3 is a lot. Especially considering how weak the West was it's kinda shocking that the Warriors didn't make it. But he wasn't active enough and waited until he was in a really deep hole to make any moves so it was hard to climb out of. Sixers and Celtics on the other hand had a really tough conference and divisions. They should have done more espeically Lumley iMO. Make more trades. You're sitting on a team that is barely simming at .500 sometime below that. You gotta make more moves until it clicks no matter what.
jahallstar - Yeah it was kind of crazy how all 3 missed. I mean Golden State did nothing until they were 20 games under .500. They would have easily made it if they tried from the start. Boston and Philly both had great pieces to start with but didn't put the right players around them. I think both of them did really poorly in FA to try and compliment their stars. Very surprised at least one of them didn't make it.
nybombers3 - I mean, yeah. I was shocked when we saw 4 teams in CY and pretty surprised that 3 of them are gone. Lums being gone is rough considering the fact that he would've been safe in the West but it is what it is. They will all be back, if they want, soon enough. Hopefully they stick around, post and remain factors in the league somehow because it always sucks to see dudes have to be forced out essentially.
2. In the short term who's same roster would reset this year?
Orlando Magic Johnson - The Sixers would reset this year for sure. I also think we St. Cloud all year the Celtics would have a good shot. Need to make a couple trade but close.
jahallstar - Umm none of the rosters are any better this year. I guess the 6ers and celtics would have a good chance since a couple of teams like the Knicks and Bulls will probably join the rebuilding ranks.
nybombers3 - I would think Philly would reset. Not sure about the other two. Boston should rebuild but they do have two stars on roster. The Warriors are going to rebuild and that's the right move I believe.
3. Habes made a good suggestion of reset if you would make Playoffs in either conference. Yay or nay? Thoughts?
Orlando Magic Johnson - Mmmmm, at first, I liked it. But after thinking about it I would have to say nah. It's unfortunate but you gotta play the ball as it lies... You gotta win where you're at! That is your conference you should be able to make the playoffs in it. No gimmes. Now, having said that the WL pool is pretty dry so I understand doing whatever it takes to keep GM's in their spots. We need people lol.
jahallstar - Na I think 42 wins is the bar. If you get lucky and sneak into the playoffs without 42 wins more power to you. But that is a bonus. You should get at least 42 to be safe.
nybombers3 - I'm with it. Like I said, I hate to see dudes lose their jobs so if we can add another way for a team to remain around, that's cool. I get that, for example, Philly didn't hit 42 but in the West it would've been a clean reset. Let them stay IMO.
4. 1 team in CY and another presumably weak draft before Wilt. How does the league look compared to last yr?
Orlando Magic Johnson - The league is alive and well! We got some GM's back and the activity is through the roof. I think all GM's are really into BBS for the past few seasons. There was a time that I thought BBS was dead and on it's last leg but now it looks really good. The drafts are fun. These people are so far removed that it is making it interesting and i'm sure creating the drafts is fun for Spence. Good stuff!
jahallstar - There will be less to talk about with only 1 CY team. And we all know Royal always seems to go 37-45 in his CY but make the playoffs to survive. Some of the teams that have been dominating the past few years are running into HC issues. There might be some new teams stepping up which will drive activity. I'm assuming half the league will be gunning for Wilt next year. Which will be good for me if I don't make the playoffs this year
nybombers3 - League is in a good place. There obviously won't be as much talking done because it's just royal and we all know he''ll reset. Overall, the league is doing well and it's interesting to see who the next team to come up after the Heat are done, whenever that is. Also, while this draft isn't great, teams are going to start preparing for the Wilt draft. It begins this season.
5. Do you think Royal makes it and by that i mean how many wins does he take the 8 seed win the last sim?
Orlando Magic Johnson - I think Royal makes it. Probably another year where you can be below .500 and make the 8th seed. Not sure how many teams are good and/or actually trying to win/lose. But I don't really see any problems for Royal if he is active and making moves. He should make it. Ton's of cap.
jahallstar - Way to early to tell. Wanzer is a very good start if he doesn't die in TC. There are far to many holes for him to fill to tell if he will make it. The West should still be shitty though so he probably only needs upper 30's in wins.
nybombers3 - 38-44 wins. He makes it as the 8th seed.
6. Draft felt like a toss up were the top 5 your top 5? what is your order?
Orlando Magic Johnson - I felt like 2-5 could have went either way I guess. Krebs should have went 2 imo. But Hot Rod should be good. Lyndon Lee might have gone too early but people went nuts over his notes. That will be interesting to see after the first TC. I would have went Woody, Krebs, Hot Rod, Tyra, Lee.
jahallstar -After the top 2 this was kind of a tossup. I would have went Woody, Hot Rod, Krebs, Tyra, Lee. Lee had great notes but not sure he is going to end up a star like some think. low inside and mid volume might hurt.
nybombers3 - Woody. After that, it's rough. I guess Krebs, Hot Rod, Lee, Tyra. I think as long as Lee will be +25th and +20th before TC, he'll end up being a stud. Obviously its not great to draft a dude with C potential that high but fuck it. He's elite in everything that matters really. He'll be damn good. Maybe not long term but the Spurs don't need that so I get it.
7. Best pick of the lotto?
Orlando Magic Johnson - Alonzo Lewis - He's going to be a STUD. BOOK IT!
jahallstar - I think Hot Rod will end up the best player in the class. So I will go with him.
nybombers3 - I actually like the Spurs 2nd pick, Palmer. Really was hoping that he fell to me at 11. Oh well.
8. Why do you think we do not have more draft mock articles? Could be such good talk. If season wasnt so fast was going to do one
Orlando Magic Johnson -Maybe the time of the year. People are busy. Also, depends on who is tanking and in the lotto. There are certain GM's more interested in doing articles than others. Some love to engage activity, etc. Also, some don't want to give away picks. But it really depends on the GM's in the lotto I think. Some years we have so many.
jahallstar - Yeah a lot is probably timing. You have a couple day window to do one. Also people might not want to give away who they are looking at. They might want to steer people away from who their main target is, however people also like to be right. So if they botch the mock people might not give it any credibility.
nybombers3 - I think it's a combination of time and knowledge. Let's be honest, it's not always great timing to make articles. I know I've struggled doing the 3 articles a season. Usually fall off at 2. Kind of is what it is. Also, GM's differ in how they draft and want to keep certain players a secret or whatever. I can see dudes doing mocks to throw off other guys but who knows.
9. We lost some absolute studs in retirement. Suggs, Edwards and more. who is your BBS HOF pick from this class.
Orlando Magic Johnson - Definitely Suggs and Edwards. Might have to retire Dipp into the Blazers HOF. Kenny Mills is a close pick.
jahallstar - Well Suggs and Edwards are no brainers. Miles probably too. He was a big time scorer for many years.
nybombers3 - Antman and Suggs gotta be there. Kenny Miles was surprising to see him retire. StarJ is another HOF dude. Eli Oki retiring as the GM dips 5 seconds in his tenure.
10. Speaking of HOF should Marty bring that back? a lot more history to work with now.
Orlando Magic Johnson - Yeah, definitely. That was always fun. Probably a ton of work and not enough time. But it was cool!
jahallstar -It would be cool for a historical perspective to look back on. Not sure how many really pay that much attention to it though. It is one of the things that OOTP does better than FBB.
nybombers3 - Would be cool but would be crazy work. I can only imagine the amount of time to do that legit. I've had ideas of how to make a legit one but fuck, it always throws me off because of how much work it really would be.
