Miami Heat: A-
The Groza/Noble deal made a lot of sense for the Heat. Kobe filled out the roster perfectly with Raven and Holland, and now he has an extra big that he can use to try to upgrade on the perimeter if need be. Heat are the favorites.
New York Knicks: C
Decent draft pick in Brown, but Skillz is looking at ~48 wins and also-ran status when he should’ve cleaned house to rebuild. Depressing roster! Out with these clowns!
New Jersey Nets: D
Decent team but Marty didn’t do a thing to get better and there’s not much value on the roster. This is part N/A, part D. Even if you're not making major moves, trade into the draft or do something in FA. All the Nets did was get a year older.
Orlando Magic: B
Got Ramsey back, which was the number one priority. Rizzo was a solid addition. Team just seems to be treading water, and I don’t see how it contends in the East. They have a few young guys who look nice on paper/do a few things well but ultimately seem to be more interesting than good.
Philadelphia 76ers: B
Game made the roster much better and should have no problem resetting. Think the plan in Philly is to reset, get value for Kiyan, Mikan, etc., and then try to build a young team around Bill. If that's the case, didn’t love moving the ‘42 1st to get Braun, but can’t knock it too much since the priority had to be building a playoff team this year.
Boston Celtics: B-
Got his picks back for Cloud, which is sensible, but why are the rest of these guys on the team? Where’s the block to get picks/youth for Jax, Hannum, Gish, etc.? Seems like Eli came back to troll for a bit before quitting. Not great.
Washington Wizards: C
I didn’t want to bother in the trade thread but thought the reaction to the Wiz/Bulls trade was strange. Buzz was uncamped and clearly came in with 100 potential. He has a solid chance to be more valuable than Groat. The PG JAH drafted was an obvious starter with camps based on the notes. Not a horrible deal, but no reason to deal both those pieces for Groat when the rest of your roster isn’t very good. Don’t see what else the WIz did but may have missed stuff.
Atlanta Hawks: B+
Got out of a bad HC situation without getting much worse. They look to be about as good as they were last year. The scoring may take a hit with Gabe gone, but Beck seems like he’s ready to take on more volume. Second best in the East?
Cleveland Cavaliers: B-
JCC VC looks nice. Arizin was great at SG for me, but I would’ve kept Mullen and the flexibility Svedda had to make other moves. Cavs are going to rebound extremely well. The offense should be solid but not elite. Defense should be pretty good. They just seem like a ~50ish win team that won’t really contend.
Chicago Bulls: B
Can’t really expect to get a ton when you tear down right now. So many guys either tanking or treading water/too passive. I liked the Wiz deal a lot for Play. Palmer looks good. We’ll see what they get for Eppa. It’s a great start on a rebuild, so no reason to fixate on the value in each deal.
Milwaukee Bucks: B
Andy made most of his moves to improve at the deadline last season so not much to talk about here, but adding Coleman for free was great. He’ll sim the same despite the ratings dip. Signed McMahon on the MLE and should get value for him. Did some other stuff too but I didn’t pay attention. Good job.
Indiana Pacers: C
I think Bob Brown is just nice ratings with MLE production. Didn’t like the signing. Heat ‘41 is the last pick in the first unless Kobe rebuilds, so that’s pretty bad value for Raven. But maybe Kobe rebuilds, IDK. Anders is the kind of guy you deal when you have rebuilding deals for the studs. Why move him cheap if you’re keeping a winning team in place?
New Orleans Hornets: B-
Loved Twyman. Don’t like Naulls much. I didn’t think Saulsberry was a clear #1, either, but we’ll see how he sims. Seems like the Hornets could’ve made their move this offseason. Don’t blame them for not rushing; mainly just hate seeing Twyman gone if you’re gonna stay young.
Detroit Pistons: A-
Hell yeah Chip. Saul for free, great deal for Twyman, Gallatin for picks. Awesome moves. Don’t think the work is done, though. Depending on Uno’s production, the Pistons will need either one or two bigs to reset. They probably need a backup wing, too. Can Chip get Frieberger + AL for Sharman and his 42? Should he do that? Talk to me!
Toronto Raptors: B+
Loved the draft. Hated the Miller signing, but not gonna dock Braz too much for it; people seem to value Miller, so maybe Braz can get value for him. Excited to see Krebs play—think he’s the gem of the class. Braz also seems to have unloaded Bronny. I can’t remember what he gave but I’ll count that as good.
