Or check to see if your school provides free/discounted office. I think it’s like $10 for me

But I’ve used open office for years, has equivalents for word, pp, excel, and access. Can save in those file types too. You occasionally run into some formatting differences but usually negligible for school stuff

I think LibreOffice is the new replacement for Open Office, never got around to switching over to it, but I assume it’s the same/better
