Not sure why consensus is Naulls is an automatic max. You must be making the assumption that he has something in the tank potential wise, or his scoring output was diminished in a major way by Baylor, Walton, Lovelette. The latter makes some sense, but it is risky. Development has been very stagnant in 4 years, even with a pot boost. Rebounds are above average. Stocks are not ideal for what GM's really desire these days. There is nothing convincing me that he is going to be a big time defensive/shot blocker or an option on a championship team maybe outside the Warriors. It's ironic, because people were really low on Naulls several years ago when I acquired him, he hasn't improved at all and now we are pitchforks and torches at Lums door for not offering the max. They were very low on Naulls because you traded a 35 ppg sf for him. Naulls was a rookie or 2nd year player and just got a +20 pot boost after solid time in Detroit. Tyman was really good at 28 PPG per game. Bigs are valued more than wings. There was a lot of commentary that people didn't like Naulls as a player. Didn't pan out in the end, but not like I give a huge shit because I won a championship anyway. |

Even if this is true, GMs set the value. HF wasn't the only guy with cap who maxed him. Sign him and get something. That was our collective point. Just because GM's set the FA value doesn't mean you should follow suit if it doesn't make sense. Smart money is key. I have yet to see a case on why Naulls deserves a max from a production or potential standpoint. I argued earlier that his production isn't awful given he was 4th or 5th on an amazing squad. Still holds the A scouted, got a +10 pot boost, there's seems to be room to develop in there Personally I would have sent sign and trade offers and if I got nothing, then at least I know where he stands from a GM opinion standpoint. Seems clear to me off this thread that Naulls could have fetched some 1sts |

Scouted potential is very important in trades. People don't talk about it much but it pretty obviously affects how GMs view players

Good inside and midrange. GOod post defender and strength as well. Some stocks, good handles.

Personally, I'm not worried about overpaying a rookie deal on a guy with trade value because any contract can be traded. We saw Kuminga and Suggs crippling contracts were traded repeatedly. You might argue they were better than Naulls, but my counter would be Naulls is a lot cheaper on his rookie max. Worth the risk.
