Most of the views expressed in this article were real time reactions and do not necessarily reflect any new developments through TC or otherwise!
hf - Wassup fellas! The offseason is the busiest and most active time of the year in BBS. So much happens and it’s hard to keep track of it all. Luckily for you, my good buddy DeeperThanSims and I have decided to collaborate and bring you guys an offseason review! We’re not going to go in depth on every single transactions, but we’ll highlight the most important moves and some league controversy(stay tuned for Lums talk) along the way.
So go get your best buddies on your banana boat because we’re in for a hell of a ride!
Play wins his first Championship this version!
DeeperThanSims - Even though we are focusing our talks on the off-season, we would be remiss to not congratulate Play on his championship win and giving Greeme props for a great run. Play was the GOAT of the last few BBS versions and it's cool to see him back on top. Trading for Noble was a classic "last piece" move by Play and it paid off. Fun fact: Both greeme and Play turned down Noble deals that off-season, though obviously Play came around later. Imagine Noble/Slick/Sam Jones on the Clippers... damn.
hf - Congrats to Play on his first title this version. Took him long enough. Felt like this was his most complete team and should be around for awhile as Noble is the only starter over 30. Greeme sucks and is old but he built a good team this year. I want Sam Jones. What a stud.

2042 BBS Draft Talk!
DeeperThanSims - How you feeling about this draft bro? A few things stuck out to me:
Pistons drafting Doug Moe over Lenny Wilkens. I liked Moe's notes, seems like he can be a nice PF, but Wilkens seems like a guaranteed star at PG. I guess chipper would rather ride with Maurice King at PG and that's cool.
Cavs taking Jackie Moreland at 6 seemed like a reach. I feel like those type of players never develop here, but 2 years left rebuild was going trash up to that point so he probably felt the need to take a risk.
I think ashes and the Spurs is going to be very happy with Warley production at #9. Maybe we (as a league) overreacted initially, but dropping to #9 is an overreaction in the opposite direction IMO.
Herschell Turner at #18 was a nice pickup for the Orlando Magic Johnson and the Blazers. I think he can be like Alfred McGuire with less turnovers, that's a valuable player. I guess the C defense scared everyone off. Also like Al Nealey at #26 for the jahallstar and his Wizards. So many worse SGs were drafted before him smh.
hf - I actually like Doug Moe and he reminds me a lot of Mel Payton coming into the league. Hopefully for Chip he develops in the same way and he keeps him. I would have taken the sure fire star PG in Wilkens though so that’s a good break for the mattfaria12 and the Sonics.
Warley falling to 9 was a little too low but expected. Everyone is scared of the handles with such high passing and -20 coming in.
George Price was my most underrated pickup of the first round at 11. He will be a very good player if camped right away.
Ben Warley - "Y'all MFs tripping letting me drop to #9"
The Trades
Hawks trade Zeke, Buzz Wil and two 1sts to the Blazers for Walter Dukes
hf - So far we got the dukes trade where the hawks got Walter Dukes as the main piece in exchange for Zeke Zalowak, Buzz Wilkinson and a couple picks.
I love the trade for the Blazers. They fill out the roster better, get some picks and get a big that can at least try to replace Duke’s production.
A little confused by the Hawks on this deal since they sold at the deadline to rebuild. Maybe they will retool. Either way Dukes is a great player so adding him to the team is always good. I would say even deal with a slight edge to the blazers.
DeeperThanSims - This was strictly a value trade for me. I think I'll get a better return for Dukes than Buzz and Zeke combined, especially after my early discussions where I was being offered meh firsts, or getting comments on Buzz's rebounding. I do hate that I had to give up my 2043 1st though. I needed to rebuild but now I'll be treadmilling it, so I definitely see your point.
Hawks trade Walter Dukes, Slater Martin and Elijah Felix for Wayne Embry and a 2045 1st
DeeperThanSims - I made the Walter Dukes deal with something like this in mind. Buzz and Zeke weren't going to land me someone like Embry. I engaged the Warriors as soon as I knew the Dukes deal was possible. Embry regressed last TC but he should still have plenty of potential left. I hate that I have to treadmill for a year, but it's worth it if Embry becomes a superstar.
hf - I love this deal for the Hawks. I think Dukes and Embry are pretty similar players with the advantage to Dukes obviously. But he’s 30 and Embry is 23. Don’t hate it for the warriors at all though, Dukes and Wilt will be amazing defensively and on the boards. Both should do close to 30 ppg. Now they have to go get Sears from Nanz. Good deal fellas.
Mavs trade Red Rocha to the Cavaliers for their 2043 1st back, as well as the Cavs 2045 1st
DeeperThanSims - Mavs were easily a playoff team and probably didn't need to do this deal, but if Lasagna and tears of failure wants to rebuild then it is what it is. Rocha is 34. Cavs could suddenly have the best team in the league now…
hf - I mean I guess it’s okay since they get their first back, and red is 34 making 80 million over the next three years, but man does this make the Cavs scary. One thing about Veddas championship teams is he always has a great big.
Red Rocha excited to be on a great team after wasting away for nearly a decade
Blazers trade Zeke Zawoluk and Worm Namdor to the Kings for Rayford Wells, Koa Peat and the Kings 2043 1st Rounder
DeeperThanSims - Initially I called this a great value for the Kings but Rayford Wells does appear to be a good young big, so I'll knock it down to a good value. I can attest to both Zeke and Worm being great defensive bigs. Solid deal all around.
hf - I thought this was an even trade but loved it for the direction of the Kings. Peat is still elite(and a real player). Worm fits the Kings team and allows them to slide Ed Mac to the three. Great trade!
Hawks Trade Bulls 2043 1st and filler for Al Rochelle
DeeperThanSims - I needed a PG for this season and despite his flaws, Rochelle will do about 30 PPG. That's it lol
hf - I loved this trade for the Hawks as they needed a point guard in the worst way. I like that Chip isn’t stuck with the contract, but Al would of been able to be dealt. Felt he sold a little too low but since they didn’t lose much of their future here it’s fine.
Free Agency (Day 1 Focus)
DeeperThanSims - This Day 1 was mad real. Elgin Baylor to the Cavs. Willie Naulls to the Wolves. Wah Wah to the Knicks. That's the Hornets whole team! I can't blame them for Elgin and Wah Wah, that is what it is... But letting Naulls walk after he asked to re-sign for the max is insane. It's obvious he was going to be maxed by other teams. Congrats on the signing by the way, stealing Naulls was a great move.
hf - So many crazy signings. The best signing was obviously Elgin Baylor going to the Cavs. But the story was the destruction of the Hornets. Literally lost 3 starters in one day of free agency. That’s tough for lums but at least he has all his picks and will be able to rebuild if he chooses too. I’m happy with stealing Baulls. While he may not be elite right now I think he can eventually get to over 3 stocks a game.
DeeperThanSims - Word! Let's look at some of these other Day 1 deals too. The Bob Cousy re-signing is wild. There was no reason to give him 182 million over 7 years as a 32 year old. Vince Cohen back at the 7 year rookie max is probably an overpay but Svedda couldn't afford to lose him for nothing. He's a nice shooter/scorer. Chipper signing Al Rochelle to the rookie max I didn't quite get. He already has Maurice King and I'm doubting Rochelle's flipability at the rookie max. Maybe he can grab a late 1st.
Nets got Doty back which they desperately needed, good re-signing for @cmart . Knicks signed Wah Wah and Bob Brown, presumably to flip. That's cool. Stevie B and the Kings signing Ernie Vandeweghe to the MLE is great, Ernie is a great shooter/scorer on the wing. This was definitely an eventful Day 1, unfortunately at the expense of Lums
hf - I like the Cohen deal, I would of offered max if I didn’t land Jerry. The Cousy contract is a definite overpay but he’s never leaving Denver and Dream's Team had to make sure of that. The rest of day 1 was some pretty standard stuff.
Lums quitting then not quitting?
Live look at Lumley after FA Day 1 hit!
DeeperThanSims - Seems like Lumley316 is taking this too hard. GMs lose stars in FBB free agency every year. I know us piling on about Naulls didn't help, especially when Pig was the one who steered him wrong, but it is Lums' team at the end of the day. Quitting over this feels a bit dramatic but hopefully he enjoys his break and joins the waitlist
[After realizing Lums wasn't quitting] He was posting all night so apparently he isn't quitting and was just being dramatic. Now he's talking about running with Clyde and Walton... and I know he's not joking because he signed George King and Chuck Share. He's going to try and make the playoffs. I hate to say it, but he's on the fast track to another CY.
hf - Lums is being a bit dramatic and while it sucks to lose half your team to free agency. I know Lums will stick it out. He needs to stop playing around though. Flip Clyde, Walton, etc for youth/picks and rebuild. Resetting isn’t easy in the east Nd if he tries to be mediocre, he WILL be CYd again. Best of luck to my former colleague Lums.
And that's a wrap folks. Tune in next season for the next edition, maybe 🤣
