Galo chipper @kwisatzhaderach
1. A year later, the picture should be a little clearer - who would you rather have going forward: Oscar Robinson or Jerry West?
Galo - Oscar looks better right now but it's going to be close. I think HF will be finished pumping all those extra camps into Jerry soon so will be a toss up.
chipper - That’s tough. I’d say Oscar right now because he looks better, but West has some camps left so it’s close.
Jawn - Was this ever a question? Both will be elite but the positional advantages Oscar will have makes him the clear choice. Although west and Bailey just clapped my cheeks in round 1 I think the right choice was Oscar.
2. Who from the 2042 draft was the biggest steal and who was the biggest bust in your eyes?
Galo - Kinda early too tell. I think Bob McNeill was a steal for the Wiz. Don't sleep on jah in the 2nd round - the man will dig for a steal. For Busts, Warley looked underwhelming his rookie season but maybe he'll bloom later for the Spurs.
chipper - I really liked McNeil as a pick, jah is a good drafter as usual. Warley I never liked, I would consider him a bust but it’s still early.
Jawn - Hard to call anyone a bust yet, but Imhoff looks pretty eh so far but he could end up being a solid one way big. Nobody looks like a huge steal but I'll take this chance to plug 85+ Inside and jumpshot Bones Davis
3. We have the Grizzlies and Celtics entering their CY. Both need a lot of work to make it. Pick one to make it and one to miss and let us know why. Also who would you pick to replace the CYd GM?
Galo - Eh I think the Grizz are in a little rougher shape (sorry rex). Love the GM but he's taken the last 3 off-seasons off. Can't really do that if you're rebuilding although he's in the west and only missed it by a few games last season but we'll see how it plays out. Beastly can be pretty stubborn, kinda inactive and slow to pull trigger on deals this go around and sometimes you don't have time to do that in the east. He's got more assets than Rex though so I'll go Grizz. I think Ahsan, Jr and Royal are waiting in the wings right? I guess whoever Spence likes the most out of those 3 will get the gig if open.
chipper - That’s tough. Rex is in the West so by default, I’ll go with him making and Beastly missing- but I like both so hope both make it. :-) And Ahsan has to be next on the list for sure.
Jawn - Celtics have better players but are in the east. If they were in the west they would make it easily. I think they still sneak in. Horace is elite and they can move some assets around to get a PG and another big and they should be set. I think the grizz don't make it but could see some 36-46 8 seed royal CY fuckery happening.
4. Hav or Walt. A scoring wing or a super solid big man. If you had the top pick this year, which way would you have gone?
Galo - Probably Hav. Doesn't seem to have many flaws aside from defense. That would have been my pick although Bellamy should be a very good big.
chipper - It’s Hondo, and Walt is one of my favorite all-time players. But Hondo is just too, too good.
Jawn - Uhhh. Hondo was the clear #1 pick. Should be a top 3 SG in the league if not higher. Walt could be very good but there's a glut of solid bigs and I could see him getting lost in the shuffle. He reminds me of Embry so it will just depend on how TC treats him
5. So far in the draft, which pick surprises you the most? Any steals, reaches or draft trades that left you scratching your head?
Galo - Maybe Chris Smith at 13? Spence always makes these mid guys that can be a homerun or a bust so just seems risky at the tail end at the lotto. I like Don Nelson at 5 - think he'll be super solid wing in BBS and have to think spence has some affinity to him being in Golden State so long. Also, that Sonics-Pistons trade, not sure I like it for either right now but maybe Detroit or Seattle lands Krebs and it works out for them.
chipper - Chris Smith at 13. I hope for Matt’s sake he is good, but that was a real surprise to me. Really liked some of these later picks like Cleo Hill to the Warriors, as an example. Think he could be a steal.
Jawn - The Sonics and Pistons made a couple of head scratching trades. The pistons giving up a lotto protection on a pick is gonna look so bad next season imo. Bevo going top 10 was interesting. His best assets are strength and post d and shows B potential. Doesn't look like a top 10 pick to me but might end up as a good 3rd big.
6. What are your thoughts on Spencer adding in other draftees like Havlechik to this class? Like it, love it? Want some more of it?
Galo - It's good. Mixing it up is always preferred imo. I want more of it. Also, I think the draft classes as a whole need to improve.
chipper - It’s awesome. It adds some intrigue and spice to the class and that’s much needed in this league.
Jawn - Knew it was likely coming with how weak this draft was originally. I don't think he will move around a ton of players but can see him moving 1-2 players around to balance out classes. Don't have a strong opinion about it either way.
7. Crazy to think summer is almost over. Did you guys do anything fun? Take any trips?
Galo - Ya doing a big guys trip in about 2 weeks so will be gone at least 5 days. Then a big family trip in late Sept/Oct.
chipper - Yep- just got back from a 2.5 week trip to Ireland- it was a blast. Best weather I’ve ever had there by a lot. Sad that it’s over, but we really did have a great time.
Jawn - Getting ready to go asheville for 5 days. Had the trip planned for a few months but it's definitely needed after getting some pretty bad family news. Will probably turn off my phone for a few days and try to get away from things. We usually go to the beach in the summer but are skipping this year and taking a big trip to phoenix/sedona this November. Saw a couple concerts in Nashville but nothing major.
8. Have you had the chance to meet anyone from sims in real life? If so, who? Tell me some more about that.
Galo - Ya so far I've met Dan, Royal and JR. Dan I met like 10 years ago in a random In N Out next to UCLA. Awesome dude. Royal invited me and JR to game 6 of the Clippers 2021 playoff game against the Jazz and clinched a berth in WCF. Best game ever I've seen live in my 30+ years watching Clippers basketball. Royal and JR were cool to hang with during that experience. Hoping to meet a couple others - we'll see.
chipper - Nope, never met anyone in this league. In my JSB league, for sure, but I’ve known them way longer.
Jawn - Funny story, on an old forum that originally housed my first sim league this guy from New Zealand came to the states and basically crashed at different peoples houses he knew on the forum. He ended up in KY as he was closer with my high school buddy who was on the forum as well and met up at red lobster for dinner. Also I ran a sim league that had 10+ people from my high school in. There were kids that joined that I had never talked to in school before. I think one of my buddies that was on the basketball team got them to join.a
