Creation Draft 1st Round Grades
14. Phoenix Suns - Baron Davis PGThis is the first really big reach in my opinion as Davis is really raw, he only put up 8 ppg with 3 tpg in the test sim so he has a long way to go if he's going to get a lot better. Davis is only 21 and plays PG so he's due for at least one good TC. So as long as he gets all his camps to his scoring and has a good TC or two then Davis will be alright but still a lot of things need to go right for him to be good. Much better players and prospects were on the board here.
1. Sacramento Kings - Kobe Bryant SG
Couldn’t love this pick more tbh. Sure some of the experts might say that it would’ve been smarter to go with one of the big men like Shaq or Duncan but I prefer building around a dominant wing like Kobe since it’s usually easier to just plug and play a good defensive/rebounding big then it is to have a wing that can’t score. Another TC or two and his camps and Kobe will be the best player in the league for a long time. Grade: A+
2. Los Angeles Clippers - Tim Duncan PF
Also a huge fan of this pick obviously as Duncan could have easily went #1 and I don’t think anyone would have batted an eye. Duncan put up 30 ppg, 13 rpg, 5 apg, 2.6 bpg and 1.1 spg on great %s. He’s everything you want and more in a franchise player. Clippers win big here by getting Duncan as they can be one of the best teams in the league for a long time if they build around him correctly.Grade: A+
3. Cleveland Cavaliers - Shaquille O’neal C
Another great pick here as Shaq could’ve also easily went #1 as he is the most dominant player in the league currently. The only reason he fell to 3 here is because he’s older than Kobe and Duncan but Shaq still has a lot of dominant years ahead of him. Easy no brainer pick here hard to give any of these early picks any lower than A+ because of how much better they are than everyone else in the league tbh.Grade: A+
4. Dallas Mavericks - Tracy McGrady SG
This is where we see the first slight dip in talent comes as McGrady isn’t as good as the first 3 guys but he still has a ton of potential left so he should be up there with Kobe pretty soon. McGrady didn’t put up huge #s in the test sim that you would’ve liked to have seen, but once he gets that jump shot and 3 point shot fixed then he should take off. I would have considered a few other guys here but T-mac ends up being the obvious pick here in the end. Mavs get a franchise player they can build around for 10-15 years.Grade: A
5. Boston Celtics - Allen Iverson SG
Next off the board is super scoring wiz Allen Iverson fresh off his 31 ppg test sim. A little disappointing that he can’t be moved to PG without taking the handles hit and his handles are a bit of a concern but at 31 PPG w/ that kind of shooting efficiency, 3 tpg is excusable. The turnovers are really the only complaint here as AI will be a franchise SG for years to come. Some might have preferred one of the big men still left on the board but I like this pick. Grade: A
6. Denver Nuggets - Kevin Garnett PF
This is another great pick where it’s hard to really say anything bad about. KG is an absolute monster and still hasn’t reached his prime yet. I could see a lot of people wanting to take KG over T-mac or AI. KG is still a little raw on offense and has a major turnover issues but the rest of his game makes up for that. Just don’t put a lot of high turnover guys around him and it shouldn’t be an issue. Grade: A
7. Indiana Pacers - Elton Brand PF
Brand is another great pick he simmed amazingly in the test sim putting up 25 ppg, 10 rpg and 2.4 bpg on great shooting %s and he’s only 21. Turnover issue isn’t that bad and he should improve a lot though the next few TCs alone. If Brand has a lot of potential like his age might suggest and gets his camps in right right places then he could really turn in to a monster. Love this pick a lot even though Brand maybe not as big of a name as these other guys.Grade: A
8. Minnesota Timberwolves - Vince Carter SG
Carter is the last of the great all-around franchise players to be taken so Twolves go extremely lucky to get the 8 spot as they get their franchise player for the next 10 years here. Carter put up 28 ppg, 6 rpg and almost 2 spg and 1 bpg. His turnovers are a bit of an issue but once again at his level of production it doesn’t really matter as much. Great pick here I can see Vince going even higher for some people but it just comes down to preference of wing over bigman.Grade: A
9. Indiana Pacers - Steve Nash PG
There is another slight drop in talent here as Nash doesn't have the all around game to be quite considered a franchise player with his lack of defense and rebounding but Nash is still pretty close because he's so good on offense. The best offensive PG in the league and it's not even close, I really like Nash a lot he's gonna thrive in this league in the right offense. Pacers just need to surround him with the right players and they should be one of the best teams in the league for a long time with Nash at PG.
Grade: A
10. Toronto Raptors - Ray Allen SG
This is really where we start to see the drop off in talent but Allen is still a great player and probably would have been my pick here as well. Elite outside shooter with big time volume potential as well once he gets his camps to his inside scoring and such. Really solid defender and doesn't turn it over a lot either. No real weaknesses here at all to complain about but Allen just isn't quite at the level of the guys before him, still really close though.Grade: A-
11. Houston Rockets - Shawn Marion SF
This is an interesting pick as Marion didn't really sim that great(at least in terms of scoring the ball) but I think he could have big time potential. Once he gets moved to SF and gets all his camps pumped in to his scoring he will be really nice with that defensive and rebounding at SF. Almost 2 spg and 2 bpg during the test sim is nice and B reb at SF will be great. Only 10 ppg in the test sim is a bit of a concern though.
Grade: B+
12. Golden State Warriors - Dirk Nowitzki PF
This is another pick I'm not 100% crazy about since I'm not in love with how Dirk was made for this file but he should have big time potential and Dirk almost always becomes a big time scorer in every league. He should get to B+ A- scoring pretty easy but only C defense and C+ rebounding that means he's gonna have to be a SF which sort of limits his value.
Grade: B
13. Seattle Super Sonics - Paul Pierce SF
I really like this pick a lot, I think I would've taken Pierce over Dirk and Marion and maybe even Allen. Pierce long term potential as a big time scorer and all around player is exciting. He's a great rebounder at SG and 1.6 spg and .5 bpg is great as well. A bit of a turnover issue but nothing serious. I think Pierce is gonna be great should get to A- A- scoring pretty easy.Grade: A
14. Phoenix Suns - Baron Davis PG
Grade: D-
15. San Antonio Spurs - Lamar Odom SF
Odom is one of the more versatile and unique players in the league and just only 20 years old with all B ratings is really sexy and hard to pass up here. If Odom just has one good TC then gets all his camps then he will be special. And he has the potential to be elite if he has more than one good TC. The only complaint here is that Odom did avg 4.1 tpg in the test sim which is a pretty big negative. But it's his only negative really so it's live withable. Grade: A-
16. New York - Jason Kidd PG
Not really a fan of this pick as Kidd has great ratings but doesn’t necessarily sim that great. He isn’t a great shooter and has bad handles. That's a bad combo in FBB to be that inefficient. But Kidd is the best rebounding and defensive PG in the league by a good margin so that makes up for his deficiencies a bit. I get the pick since the Knicks are trying to win but they could have took Mourning here.Grade: C+
17. Detroit Pistons - Grant Hill SF
This is a solid pick by Detroit as Hill is one of the best all around wing players in the league and in his prime at 28. He does have a bit of a turnover issue but I would dump all of his camps into scoring and hope he can be a 25 ppg guy. I like Hill but once again, at this point if teams are trying to win then they should be looking at Mourning. That’s the only reason I’ll have to dock this pick some.Grade: C+
18. Denver Nuggets - Chris Webber PF
I didn’t like this pick as much as others but Webber is one of the best post scorers in the league and also a good rebounder and all around defender. His efficiency isn’t the best but he gets the job done and as long as he’s camped correctly then he will be a great starting PF. Mourning could have been the pick here so once again can’t give it as high as grade as I normally would since there was a better pick on the board.Grade: B
19. Atlanta Hawks - Steve Francis PG
This pick by the Hawks is a bit of a reach since Francis didn’t have a great test sim but his ratings look fantastic and the Hawks are committed to rebuilding so they have the time and ability to be patient with someone like Francis. All he will really need is one good TC and his camps to really explode. The handles and outside shooting is a bit of a concern but he’s still young so TCs and camps should fix those issues. Only thing that I have to mark it down for is that a player like Mourning was still available.Grade: C
20. Milwaukee Bucks - Rasheed Wallace PF
I was a little skeptical of this pick at first but I think if Sheed is camped correctly then this could be a really nice pick. I probably would have went Mourning over Wallace but I can see why some would like Sheed more. 21 ppg, 10 rpg w/ steals and blocks is fun. But only C+ reb is a concern long term so that could take away from being able to camp his scoring. Camps will be important here that’s why I think Mourning might’ve been the smarter pick.Grade: C
21. New Orleans Hornets - Alonzo Mourning C
This is one of the best picks in the draft and I was pissed that Mourning didn’t fall to me. Mourning is one of the best players in the league and still has 3-4 dominate years left so to get him at 21 is huge especially considering the huge talent drop off after the top guys. Nothing bad to say about this pick at all, 100% the right pick here and the Hornets will be one of the best teams in the league with Mourning at the helm.Grade: A+
22. Miami Heat - Stephon Marbury PG
This doesn’t look like a great pick sandwiched in between Mourning and Wallace but the Heat are hopeful Marbury blossoms in to one of the best scoring PGs in the league. And he is already one of the better scoring PGs in a relatively weak PG league. FBB tends to favor PG’s so as long as Marbury has just one decent TC then his camps should do the rest. Grade: C+
23. New Jersey Nets -Ben Wallace C
Great pick here, I almost took Wallace at #22 with my selection. Wallace is one of the best defenenders in the league and a top rebounder as well, he will be the cornerstone for the Nets defense for years to come. Nothing bad to say about this pick really as I don’t think I would’ve took anyone else above Wallace at this point. The only concern comes with maybe his next contract if he wants a huge deal but he probably won’t. Grade: A
24. Dallas Mavericks - Jermaine O'Neal C
Didn’t really like this pick at all with so many other good options still on the board and considering that O’neal would’ve still been around for a while. Mavs consider taking O’neal a luxury since they struck gold with their pre-draft trade but we’ll see just how much of a luxury O’neal actually becomes making 12.5 mil his first few years. He’s gonna have to have a big first TC next season for this to pan out imo.Grade: D-
25. Chicago Bulls - Marcus Camby C
Really good pick here, Camby is going to be a great anchor for the Bulls. He'll be one of the best defensive and rebounding bigs in the league with his camps so its hard to complain about this pick at all. Can't really see anyone I would've taken over him.Grade: A-
26. Utah Jazz - Allan Houston SG
I wasn’t really looking at Houston since I’m trying to tank but I suppose this is a pretty good pick as he is one of the best SG in the league currently. Excellent outside volume scorer and doesn't turn it over. Loves his efficiency but at 29 the window to win with him isn't going to be huge. Grade: B
27. Cleveland Cavaliers - Keith Van Horn SF
I like this pick a lot as KVH was super productive in the test sim and a good bit better than Jamison and Walker who go after him. Was considering taking KVH at 22 so would've loved him here as well. He's not gonna be great at defending wings but other than that I love him. Grade: A-
28. Philadelphia 76ers - Antawn Jamison PF
Not a huge fan of this pick since Jamison is pretty one dimensional at this point and is gonna need a lot of work on his jump shot and 3 point shot to be most effective at SF in an outside offense. He’s just one TC and all of his camps away from being a great scorer though(in the right offense)Once he has a little more work on his jump shot and 3 point shot then he’ll be a better fit at SF.Grade: C+
29. Orlando Magic - Antoine Walker PF
This is a good pick, I like Antoine a little more than I do Jamison just because he has a little more rebounding potential and isn’t as bad with the turnovers. If he has any potential left and gets all of his camps to his scoring then he could be really nice. Grade: B
