G’Day from down under!
Welcome to the new & maybe-not-improved version of Footy’s Power Polls!!!
In this first installment for Season 2003 we are going to be relying solely on the thoughts and butt-hurt feelings of this leagues finest gentlemen. It’s fair to say that there were little surprises but Royal nominating the Nuggets as this league’s best team has already rendered him ineligible for the end of year RC.
Onto the results:
1. Cleveland Cavaliers (168 votes, 11, First Place Votes)
Last Ranking: 2
Covid: Got KG from Nuggets
Svedda: Don't SLEEP. Great regular season team.
Jeb: Best in the east until someone knocks them out of it
Habes: Worse than last year, but there aren't many elite teams.
Ahsan: KG is a monster, KVH at SG is too nice, Hill a star, Glove improved at age 35 which is insane. They are stacked and look primed to make that title run this season.
2. Sacramento Kings (146 votes, 3 First Place Votes)
Last Ranking: 1
Sargo: Even though they lost Camby they are elite
Game: Kings were elite last year and bring back pretty much same team
Jahallstar: Lost Camby so might be a step back
DB: Kings are a strong defensive team and going to be right back at the top again. Another year with that dominate front court.
JR: Great team still without camby!
3. LA Lakers (106 votes)
Last Ranking: 10
Skillz: Scary team had a great TC
Jahallstar: Amazing TC almost made finals last year
Habes: Manu's a huge addition, and their other studs improved. Contender if they get depth.
Ashes: Nanz had a real solid run at the end of last year, and his team is looking nice after TC. Could make some noise with a big move
Galo: Nanz has a nice team with Dirk as his franchise guy and really like the Manu pickup for his backcourt.
4. New York Knicks (89 votes, 2 FPV)
Last Ranking: 5
Sargo: Can never count out the knicks
Game: Skills trades to much but he’s a great Gm so he’ll win
Brian: Reigning champs, have to give them #1 until proven differently
Ahsan: The defending champs obviously have a completely new look roster. Tbh, not sure how they end up doing this season. Chauncey is an elite point guard without a doubt, Kirilenko seems to be really coming into his own as an SF, David West is looking like a great pick from this past draft. They will be making a lot of moves so I don't expect the roster they have now to be the roster they have by end of season or even midseason. They're always making moves and always a threat.
5. LA Clippers (75 votes)
Last Ranking: 3
Skillz: Duncan is enough
Jeb: Timmy D is still the King and will be great until hes traded to most likely Ashes somehow…
DB: A team with Tim Duncan should never be counted out. He can carry this squad and lead them to another winning season.
JR: Duncan is good enough for them to compete
6. Indiana Pacers (72 votes)
Last Ranking: 7
Covid: Great bigs
Frangie: Arenas is a huge advantage
Habes: Gilbert's announced himself as the best PG, and he's surrounded by good shotblockers. They desperately need to upgrade on the perimeter.
Ashes: One move away from true championship contender. Gil is nice!!
JR: They have a deep team and solid players. Underrated imo
7. New Orleans Hornets (62 votes, 1 FPV)
Last Ranking: N/A
Skillz: Hated their Z trade, but roster is super deep and complete
Jeb: could be the team to knock the cavs out - Z Brand, PP is a solid front line, can their guard play hold up?
Jahallstar: Added Tons of talent. most improved team
Ahsan: This one may be a surprise but Paccelis Morlende was the steal of the draft. Meanwhile, Allan Houston improved in training camp joining Paul Pierce and Caron Butler for a terrific trio of wings. Up front, you've got Brand who's solid though they do need more help there. Overall though, they're building a nice team down there in Nawlins.
Sargo: Boring stagnant roster but it is what it is
Jeb: AI, the second best PG in the league in Bibby and Sheed makes you pretty damn good.
DB: The Celtics are the same team every year with Bibby, AI and Sheed. They have strong pieces but never enough to compete for a title if they stand pat.
9. Miami Heat (44 votes)
Last Ranking: N/A
Svedda: Could be dangerous if they find a PG.
Frangie: Some nice pieces here including Finley.
Habes: Kobe will get 30 PPG out of Finley, but they won't contend with this core.
JR: Grabbing Finley helps them with the scoring problem they had. Calderon is the key here.
10. Philadelphia 76ers (30 votes)
Last Ranking: N/A
Svedda: Yao is still a baby and not sure about their backcourt.
Brian: This team makes the playoffs without issue. Yao just crushes it at Center, moving Steve to SG and Andre at point, the team is good.
Frangie: Their front court is beastly.
Ashes: Honestly could probably be a championship contender if they traded Yao for a nice package. Team is solid.
