1. The season is winding down now. The Hawks are out ahead of the rest of the East and the league. Are they the title favorites right now? Which team do you think can take them down?
Erbes - Haven't we learned by now that FBB playoffs are a crapshoot!? East was so dominate last year and the Grizz steamrolled in the finals. Hawks have the best roster in the league in my opinion, but who knows with the playoffs. I'm taking Heat over Warriors.
ashes - The Hawks are insane and it's difficult to see any team taking them down. Definitely favorites. I could always see them losing to the Raptors since Braz was born under a special star and is blessed, and I think the Heat have a non-zero chance as well since they have a strong team. I don't think any team out West has a chance this season, very middling season for the West this year.
stooolfan - I think the Hawks are the best team and will win. If a team is going to beat them I would say the Heat. I'm just glad my team hit magic 42
2. If you were to start a franchise right now, who would you take as the face of the franchise?
Erbes - Hard to say no to Moses Malone! Only 20 years old holy shit. Look at those beautiful ratings, plus still has potential in the tank. Could easily be a 20/15 guy when all is said and done. Honorable mentions go to George Gervin and Bob McAdoo.
ashes - I'll be honest, I really don't pay attention to a lot of the young players since they're mostly old fucks I don't care about, but I think maybe Dr. J? I feel like having that cornerstone SF that does it all is pretty much required these days, and the only way to get those is draft #1 usually. Bigs are pretty easy to come by these days, and PGs are usually easy enough to find, even if you might get an eh contract out of it. There are probably other great, young SFs I'm missing, but I feel like you really can't go wrong with Dr. J.
stooolfan - My man dude Bobby!!! Maybe I'm a little bias... I think Dr. J or Malone are also good options. From my non existent experience I like having elite bigs.
3. A little 5/5/5. Give me your top 5 rookies right now and which 5 you think will be the best 5 years from now.
Erbes - Hmmmm let's see. Top 5, in no particular order: Alex English, David Thompson, Darryl Dawkins, Joe Meriweather, and maybe someone like Junior Bridgeman? I'm sure I'm missing someone obvious, so apologies to that young man! It usually takes PGs and big men to develop a bit in FBB right? So over the next 5 years I would probably hitch my wagon to guys like Dan Roundfield, Dawkins, Meriweather, Bridgeman, and Quinn Buckner. Could be some real potential in that group.
ashes - Oh goodness, another question like this. Uh, I guess the top 5 right now would be something like: 1. English 2. Thompson 3. Dawkins 4. Roundfield (I guess?) 5. Buckner (I guess?) It's hard to say because other than the top 3, everyone else sucks or doesn't play. The five that will be the best in 5 years: 1. English 2. Dawkins 3. Whichever of Roundfield/Adams/Webster develops the best 4. Thompson 5. JOE BRYANT
stooolfan - Dawkins, English, Webster, Adams, Roundfiled. I think Dawkins and English will be the best. I made such a great trade to get connie
4. The draft has been posted and man it looks good. Give me your top 5 little mock draft.
Erbes - Should I be giving this away!?! Okay here it is:
1. 76ers - Robert Parish - I think Sargo undersold his blocks in his mock. Spence said 'solid blocks' in the notes thread. That's good enough for me to take him #1. Need a big man cornerstone. Scorers can be got.
2. Wizards - Bernard King - while scorers can be got, this guy looks like he'll score 30 as a rookie. Should be really gooood.
3. Blazers - Adrian Dantley - Portland has a lot of holes, but Dantley could come in and pair up nicely with Kenon. Lots of points from the wings.
4. Spurs - Eddie Johnson - Spurs have George Karl at PG so I'm going need pick here. Johnson has those very nice looking B- ratings across the board. Intrigue!
5. Nets - Dennis Johnson - just seems like a greeme player. Maybe won't light up the scoreboard, but he's gunna be an insane stocks guy.
ashes - Hmm, just going by the file and notes I'd go with: 1. Bernard King 2. Adrian Dantley 3. Robert Parish 4. Dennis Johnson 5. Marques Johnson. Honestly King and Dantley could be interchangeable, but I guess King gets the nod for the better jump shot. Wonder if Dantley will have better stocks. Parish seems fine. His eh stocks hold him back a little, but I'm sure he has enough potential to develop enough to be a good starting big. He's underwhelming compared to what has been coming out in the past in terms of bigs, but whatever. Dennis Johnson seems fun. Very Butch-like. Marques just because maybe he develops wide and you get one of those sexy do it all SFs I previously mentioned.
stooolfan - Im a noob, but off what I see I would prob go King, Dantley, Parish, Lucas, Nixon.
5. Every year we have some legitimate steals in the draft. Take a look at the C scouted guys and give me one that sticks out to you and why.
Erbes - Hmmm maybe Al Fleming? A- defense is intriguing and maybe those C+ scoring ratings can get some love before TC?
ashes - Do we have legitimate steals? I think we get legitimately okay players that can be camped up nicely and contribute. Not really my definition of a steal. I dunno, Freeman Blade has a really cool name and B+ Inside. Scott Lloyd is cool if he has any blocks. Would be a low volume guy you can camp up to A- A-. Probably a very solid 3rd big in that case. Same goes for Lewis Brown. If I had to guess, they're probably both eh.
stooolfan - I think its all about the camps and getting lucky TC's! I am so new I just look for high upside players and hope for the best.
6. Magic and Bird coming in a few seasons. What do you think these two should look like, and do you plan on tanking for them?
Erbes - I don't know if I'll be tanking for them specifically, but will certainly be hoping that the Hawks and Lakers will try for them! I'm not a terribly big NBA historical dude, but I don't remember Magic being a huge volume scorer. Not sure he translates well to FBB from real life so Spence might have to take some liberties with him to make him standout. Maybe give him not great handles to turn him into a scorer? Bird on the other hand should come in with a great jumpshot and inside scoring, but not great 3 point shot. Probably a good rebounder and high steals too. I think he'll be the better FBB player.
ashes - I'm sure they'll be gods from Day 1 and will immediately make the teams that draft them (probably from the East) instant title contenders. Magic will probably be insane off the bat with Inside and Rebounding. Pump +16 into his outside and he'll probably develop into another Oscar type. Wonder how his TOs will be though. Bird will be the best scorer in the league by his second season and a plus rebounder. I won't be tanking for them because of course that's my CY. Wish I could say my enthusiasm for them was higher, but can't lie, it's not, I have no shot at them and will get to watch them terrorize the league immediately as I win 42 games.
stooolfan - Well, I just reset. I would love to tank for them but, the problem is everyone is tanking for them. So it might be worth trying to win. I have my 60 pick still to keep options available. It will all depend on my team and how I manage the cap moving forward. I think what spencer posted is pretty fair for their ratings. I hope both are absolute monsters.
7. NBA Play-offs are here and it's been entertaining so far. It's really wide open and any team left can take home the title. What are your finals predictions?
Erbes - I think I joked about the Warriors in the last RT, but I actually believe now! Watched a bit of the Celtics game yesterday too and they look real good. Going Celtics over Warriors in 6.
ashes Don't watch the NBA anymore to be honest. My interest had been dwindling in the NBA for years, then when I lived in Japan for two years, I could never watch any games so that pretty much sealed the deal. Maybe my interest would be higher if the Rockets were any good, but I even started to dislike the NBA when the Rockets were good with James Harden. I feel like an old school at the rec league calling every foul yelling at the youngbloods, the game has left me behind. I get bored watching 80 3PAs a game.
stooolfan - Anyone but the Lakers. I really enjoy watching Jimmy Butlers effort and dominance he plays with so much heart and gives everything to his team to win.
8. Spring is here and summer is around the corner. What big plans do you guys have coming up?
Erbes - I am very pumped for good weather. Heading to Harper's Ferry in a few weeks for some camping so that'll be fun. Will be heading home to Buffalo in July. Really excited for a chill summer. Feels like it was a hectic winter.
ashes - Things haven't been great on my end for awhile now. Really hoping Summer can bring some good news. I'll probably have to get a job and maybe Amelia can start school/daycare in the next few months so she can start getting acclimated to other kids. Poor thing has had virtually no interaction with kids in her life. Wish I could take the family on a vacation or something, but that's not looking likely. I think my father-in-law will probably pass within the next 6 months, so I'm gearing up for that. Trying to stay positive for everyone, but life has decided to give my plans the finger, so I just have to adapt and move forward.
stooolfan - Pretty busy plans for me. STL Cardinals games and going to concerts with the wife. She convinced me to get tswift tickets for her LOL. I will also be spending a lot of time with the kids.
