Good morning all from Sunny Down Under,
In the final edition of Footy's Power Polls for Season 2003. We received votes from 13 executives across the league and below are their thoughts on the league's best teams!
1. Sacramento Kings (129 votes, 12 First Place Votes)
Record: 65-17
1st Round Playoff Opponent: Denver Nuggets
Last Ranking: 1
JR: Expecting him to walk to the finals with this monster team!
Brian: Kobe is back!
Steve F: Raping Break one last time makes this team the clear favorite.
DB: The best of the best. added Kobe, need we say more? Stacked lineup.
Svedda: Of course they got Kobe back for a lot less than they received for him
Frangie: Kobe and Nash lol
2. New York Knicks (111 votes, 1 FPV)
Record: 60-22
1st Round Playoff Opponent: Philadelphia 76ers
Last Ranking: 4
Skillz: We've won 21 straight!
Ahsan: The defending champs probably have a better overall roster than they did last season. Billups is elite, Zo is elite. And the rest is just solid from top to bottom.
Jah: Not really sure how Skillz keeps getting people to trade him superstars for non superstars. He does though. The hard cap will be sneaking up on them after the playoffs
Sargo: always here
3. LA Lakers (105 votes)
Record: 58-24
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: Phoenix Suns
Last Ranking: 2
Skillz: Still the most talented team in the league for my money
Jeb: The wrecking machine is just heating up. this team is built to succeed in the playoffs with Kidd running the point and JO holding down the middle and everyone else scoring every time they see the ball
Jah: Still a very good team that rebounds amazingly. Kings top challenger out west
Svedda: Kind of disappointing season but still a threat
Galo: 2nd baton to the Kings. They have a great roster but not a lot of depth
4. Miami Heat (86 votes)
Record: 56-26
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: New Orleans Hornets
Last Ranking: 3
JR: The heat are a very good team! Don’t think they make a run but you never know!!
Jeb: The Fin/Davis wing connection is still cookin up plenty of points for this heat roster to make a run. The rookie PG might be their weakest link will he be enough to succeed in the playoffs?
Steve F: A nicely put together squad by Kobe
Galo: They've had a very nice season and best in the East by far.
Frangie: Z Bo is a top five player
5. Cleveland Cavaliers (78 votes)
Record: 54-28
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: Toronto Raptors
Last Ranking: 10
Skillz: KG and KVH are a nice duo even though this team is only half-in
Ahsan: Were going to tank but couldn't get a good enough offer for KG or KVH so here they are. Not as good as they were in previous years but still great
DB: Led by KG after their slow start reached 50 plus wins and had a good season
Galo: They are still very good just with KG and KVH
Sargo: surging team of late
6. LA Clippers (56 votes)
Record: 52-30
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: San Antonio Spurs
Last Ranking: 8
Brian: Duncan
Jeb: Timmy is here for the long haul, and until he falls apart the Clippers are a team bound for the post season.
Steve F: Duncan. Duncan. Duncan. He will need to be on one to get past the likes of the Lakers and Kings.
Svedda: Tim Duncan
Sargo: Duncan, but the time to rebuild is now
7. Houston Rockets (43 votes)
Record: 29-18
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: Portland TrailBlazers
Last Ranking: 6
JR: The rockets rely heavily on DD and VC. They are tremendous scoring but DD leaves them vulnerable on defense, which is their weakness.
Ahsan: I like my team but still need to add to the frontcourt. Getting BoJax during trade deadline was clutch. In a couple of seasons, I'll be higher.
Svedda: Boring team that doesn't play defense
Galo: Ahsan has a good team but idk if they'll show up come playoff time
8. San Antonio Spurs (31 votes)
Record: 47-35
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: LA Clippers
Last Ranking: 5
JR: I think they are a real good team. Missing something i just don’t know what it is tbh.
Ahsan: Monster Mash was a nice addition. Crawford/TMac obviously great. Odom has become a nice PF. Just need better bigs
DB: Crawford, Tmac and Odom make this an interesting first round match up for anyone.
Jah: They should be better with Crawford and Tmac. They are ready for a 1st round clash with the spurs though
Frangie: have a nice big 3
9. Indiana Pacers (25 votes)
Record: 47-35
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: New Jersey Nets
Last Ranking: 9
Skillz: Arenas is special in the playoffs
Brian: Just keep on trucking
Jeb: limping a tad into the playoffs this roster can shoot, plain and simple, and when you can shoot and have Gil, you are a threat.
DB: Lots of scoring from the guards, blocking up front. They could prove to be an interesting threat
Sargo: always top ten, never elite. That needs to change next year
10. New Orleans Hornets (24 votes)
Record: 45-37
2nd Round Playoff Opponent: Miami Heat
Last Ranking: N/A
Skillz: Hot take, but the team is hot and has a lot of talent
Jeb: Pig has found the magical DC that works to go along with his second round sensation Morlende. I'd be very scared to play these guys in the playoffs.
Ahsan: Dumping Pierce for Andrei was terrific. They are a VERY solid team top to bottom and underperformed most of the season but seems to have gotten hot at the right time
Steve F: Red smoking hot entering the playoffs. Could be a serious problem.
Jah: Came in with high expectations. They started the year horribly but are peaking at the right time
