The New GMs of BBS
Obviously taking over a team which just got ousted due to Contract Year can be difficult as none of the teams have their picks and a below average overall roster (there is a reason they all failed to make it). Whether or not these GMs can be up for the task, only time will tell. BBS is a more challenging sim league as the overall core of General Managers are seasoned with their unique styles in making moves. It might take these "rookie" GMs some time to learn the dynamics of the league as well as well as how the file is constructed with how value is deemed. But that is where the fun is!
Atlanta Hawks - New GM: footy
Overview: This friendly Aussie was previously the Assistant GM to the recently ousted Orlando Magic. Claims to have been a part of all of the positives during their tenure but none of the negatives. Also runs the "Footy's Power Polls" helping a lot of GMs get easy RCs. Been active throughout the league despite not having a team and is highly popular and very friendly.
Key Assets: SF Glenn Robinson, PF Erick Dampier, SF Mike Dunleavy, PG: Damon JonesEstimated Capspace: ~$17M
Key Free Agents: SG Ray Allen, PF Dale Davis, PF Bo Outlaw
Analysis: Footy has already made it clear that he is going to go hard during Free Agency. Shipping off Sarunas Jasikevicius to Sacramento for capspace, I fully expect him to try and find a way to dump Damon Jones and possibly Dunleavy as well. Obviously the top priority should be to bring back Ray Allen. But then, to use the rest of his cap (including what he creates between now and free agency) to add talent. The Big Dog and Ray Ray combo is nice but he needs to add A LOT of talent around them as the previous season demonstrated. A reliable point guard and strong depth up front is likely their top priority. Though, I wouldn't be shocked if he tries to use his big names to get his picks back and tear it down. Though that may be tricky as his picks are owned by different teams. Might just be easiest just to try and build a winner right away with the hand he has been dealt.
Seattle Supersonics - New GM: dms269
Overview: Probably the most seasoned BBS GM of the the new hires. Back in the day, used to go by Donatello2424 (commonly referred to as Donuts) so should be familiar to most of the GMs here. Won a title during his short stint in BBSv4 and spent 14 seasons in BBSv5 with 6 of them being 50+ win seasons (3 of those being 58+ win seasons). Expectations are probably highest for him due to his previous success.Key Assets: C Eddy Curry, PF Antonio McDyess, SF Marcus Fizer, PG Gary Payton, PG Nick Van Exel
Estimated Capspace: ~$6M
Key Free Agents: C Shaquille O'Neal
Analysis: This team is quite the mess. Gary Payton is coming off a horrible season, now looking like a bad contract and the worse contracts contracts of Nick Van Exel and Antonio McDyess (though expiring) hurts their ability to do much. Obviously, they need to pay the price to retain Shaq as him and Curry are the only players on the roster which GMs covet. If he is lucky, he might be able to use Shaq/Curry to get his picks back and start fresh but offloading Payton and Van Exel may be a difficult task. Not sure where he goes from here but navigating through this mess really does leave Don with his work cut out for him. I am interested to see what he does. If they lose Shaq, he would be in an incredibly tough spot especially with minimal capspace (though unlikely as Shaq will probably become the highest paid player in BBS after getting the Godfather contract from Seattle). His best bet would be to flip Shaq for multiple players who can help him and probably move Curry as well while his value is still high due to his age despite his obvious rebounding weakness.
Orlando Magic - New GM: @prat
Overview: His name is Amar and he is from Queens, New York. A proud Republican and a good man overall. Been in multiple leagues with him and he has been a solid GM. This is his BBS debut so should be very interesting to see how he does.Key Assets: PF Marcus Camby, PG Leandro Barbosa, SF Rashard Lewis, C Jim McIlvaine, SG Wally Sczcerbiak
Estimated Capspace: ~$1.5M
Key Free Agents: SG Allen Iverson
Analysis: Of all the rosters which just got CYed, this one clearly is the best from a talent standpoint. Issue is that it is filled with a lot of awkward pieces that do not fit well together. Obviously the top priority right now is to re-sign Iverson. He is an elite player who will get a lot of maximum level offers but Orlando will be able to offer by far and away more money than anybody else plus that 7th year so doubt it will be an issue. After getting Iverson back in Day 1, that is where the tough part begins. Camby is one of the better bigs in the game and Barbosa is looking like one of the best young prospects in the league so adding that to Iverson gives him a fair amount of assets to work with. The Lewis contract is bad but he isn't a horrible player so perhaps Amar is able to dump him to a team desperate enough for talent at the wing. He can easily get all his picks back and youth to build around or just try to get the best possible team he can around The Answer. Feel like this is the best of all the situations so it should be cool to see what happens with this squad.
