The Roids: Check-In on 100 Potential Resets
This is a check-in from anyone who received the 100-Potential Reset from the Millionth Post Reward. Where they are now and how they are doing. The reward happened during the 2055 offseason, some players were done prior to training camp while others were done after (honestly, can't tell which is which at this point). That means these players have gone through 4 or 5 training camps depending on when the reward was availed. Usually after 4/5 training camps is where players start to hit their "prime," so I feel like now would be a good time to see how these players are doing, a check-in. Where they are, where their careers seem to be heading. Just a fun activity.
19 of out the 29 teams availed the 100 potential reset while the remaining opted to go with the two +15 potential rewards. This article is to take a look at the ones who got reset and how they are doing.
NOTE: The Ranking is PURELY SUBJECTIVE. It is based on my OPINIONS on a combination of production/age/position/contract. Positions are areas where they could/would realistically start.
1. C/PF/SF Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Reward Team: Boston Celtics
Current Team: Boston Celtics
Age: 30
Ratings: A- C B- A A B
Analysis: He is the reigning MVP and DPOY. His stealing looks to be at or near 100, good blocking while being a beast on the boards who can score extremely well from inside/midrange with good handles. You could argue that he is the best player in the file. He likely would have been most of that regardless of the 100 pot reset but at age 30 likely sitting with enough potential to last him to the end of his career at an elite level is a beautiful thing.
2. SF/PF/C Julius Erving
Reward Team: Chicago Bulls
Current Team: Chicago Bulls
Age: 27
Ratings: A- A+ B B+ B+ B
Analysis: He was going to be elite either way but he is just a cheat code now. Elite in every category, an All-League and All-Defensive player. Will likely be elite for many years to come and should lead Play to a championship sometime in the near future.
3. SF John Drew
Reward Team: Los Angeles Clippers
Current Team: Los Angeles Clippers
Age: 23
Ratings: B A+ C A- B+ A
Analysis: GAME gave this guy 100 pot at age 19 and he looks scary at 23. He's kinda like Dr. J without the elite stocks stats-wise (though over 2 stocks/game is solid, he's no slouch). Though more of an outside scorer (A+ shooting) but less of an inside scorer. Still doing almost 33 PPG, amazing player. Should be one of the best assets in the league for many years to come.
4. C/PF Elmore Smith
Reward Team: Orlando Magic
Current Team: Philadelphia 76ers
Age: 28
Ratings: B+ C- C A A+ C
Analysis: Elmore having A+ rebounding with elite blocking will always make him one of the most valuable pieces in this league. Seeing that he was just traded for a package which included the third overall pick confirms that. He looks like he could be a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year this season and looks to have a nice future going forward. I'm sure Erbes is excited to be building his new competing team around him.
5. SG/SF Dino Meneghin
Reward Team: New York Knicks
Current Team: Los Angeles Lakers
Age: 27
Ratings: B+ A+ C+ A B+ C
Analysis: Prior to the 100 pot reset, Dino was thought of as "that guy who was traded for Oscar Robertson," or "that guy who was traded for Earl The Pearl." He looked to be a good scorer/rebounder at the three but not much else. Due to his lack of elite stocks, Nanz had the amazing idea to move him to SG. Somehow, he has B+ rebounding at SG and looks to be one of the best SGs in the league (which is wild for a player who entered the league listed at center). Best rebounding SG in the league, 27 years old, dropping 30+ and locked up long term. He looks really nice. He is no longer "that player traded for XYZ" and he is now Dino Meneghin.
6. SG/SF Greg Smith
Reward Team: Washington Wizards
Current Team: Boston Celtics
Age: 30
Ratings: B- A B- A- C+ B
Analysis: I really do love this dude. Stocks and boards like a prime Hondo/Sam while dropping 25+ PPG. In my mind, he is the best SG in the file (though Dino above is absolutely in the conversation).
7. SG/SF Ralph Simpson
Reward Team: New Orleans Hornets
Current Team: New Orleans Hornets
Age: 28
Ratings: B+ A B+ A- C+ C
Analysis: Honestly, Simpson does look elite. Almost 30 PPG, great boards, more steals than turnovers. Likely going to be a good player for jahallstar for many years to come. Is he as valuable as Dino or Greg? Probably not. But he is good in his own right.
8. PF/C Spencer Haywood
Reward Team: Cleveland Cavaliers
Current Team: Cleveland Cavaliers
Age: 28
Ratings: A- C C A- A- B
Analysis: The reset likely saved his blocking, helped 2 years left win a title and he is a perennial All-Star and All-League guy. Haywood is a nice player in this league. One of the better bigs easy.
9. SF Don Adams
Reward Team: Dallas Mavericks
Current Team: Dallas Mavericks
Age: 30
Ratings: A- B C A B+ B
Analysis: Don is one of the premier SFs in this league. Lasagna and tears of failure lost Bingo but didn't lose a step after Don went in. He is keeping the Mavericks in the top-of-the-West conversation now. Stocks/boards/scoring, what more can you want from an SF?
10. SF Odis Allison
Reward Team: San Antonio Spurs
Current Team: San Antonio Spurs
Age: 28
Ratings: B+ A- A- B+ B B
Analysis: The reigning 6th Man of the Year who would likely start on most teams, I'm sure ashes is thrilled with him. Such a well rounded player. Great stocks, boards, handles, can score some. I like him.
11. PG Bo Lamar
Reward Team: Indiana Pacers
Current Team: Indiana Pacers
Age: 26
Ratings: B A A- A C- B
Analysis: Losanglife gave Lamar this as a rookie after his first TC which was brilliant. He looks like one of the best PGs in the league right now doing over 30 PPG, 5 RPG, nice steal-to-turnover ratio. On a beautiful contract too. Good player.
12. SG Marv Roberts
Reward Team: Detroit Pistons
Current Team: Washington Wizards
Age: 27
Ratings: A- A C- B+ C C
Analysis: Very nice well-rounded SG. Couple steals, a block, good handles, shoots very well with good volume (did over 30 PPG in pre but currently on a team with Gervin, Issel and BT yet still holding his own doing 21 PPG on 51.5% shooting). He is a really nice underrated player.
13. SG/SF Ollie Johnson
Reward Team: Denver Nuggets
Current Team: Memphis Grizzlies
Age: 28
Ratings: B+ A- C A- B- C
Analysis: Ollie is really good BUT after the 100 pot reset, I was expecting him to be better. I'm sure he's still improving but he is a nice starting SF with SG-eligibility after the move. Hell, he was the starting wing on a championship team for Skillz . Amazing handles, solid boards, solid stocks, solid scorer. Good player.
14. C/PF Howard Porter
Reward Team: Utah Jazz
Current Team: Utah Jazz
Age: 29
Ratings: A- C C- A+ B+ B
Analysis: The rebounding is coming along, the A+ defense is pretty though stocks are not on that elite level. Great handles, scores well. Not an elite big but a good enough starting big. Hoping he can still improve in the area of stocks/boards with future TCs.
15. SF/PF Rudy Tomajnovic
Reward Team: Philadelphia 76ers
Current Team: Los Angeles Lakers
Age: 29
Ratings: A- C+ C+ B+ A B
Analysis: Rudy is a strange player. He does have A rebounding and C+ outside now but overall, looks to be the same player prior to the reset. I am sure he is still improving but Nanz is likely happy with him at the three. Last couple seasons, did around 21 PPG and 10 RPG, likely to continue that.
16. PG/SG Pat Riley
Reward Team: Phoenix Suns
Current Team: New Orleans Hornets
Age: 32
Ratings: B A A- A- C B
Analysis: Andrew just gave him away for free and nobody said anything. That is how much of an afterhtought Pat seems at this point. He did make the All-Star team last year and was an All-League First Teamer the year before BUT nobody really views him as an elite PG. He is 32 so that does hurt his value for sure but with the pot reset, he still has quite a lot left in the tank, you would think. Does score/board/stock fairly well but yet to overcome the questionable handles. Hopefully he does produce for jahallstar with Simpson in the backcourt.
17. PG George Karl
Reward Team: Memphis Grizzlies
Current Team: San Antonio Spurs
Age: 26
Ratings: B A A B C B
Analysis: Scores really well, solid handles, one of the better starting PGs in the league. Not much else to say about him. He's a good PG, not elite or anything but really good.
18. PG Mack Calvin
Reward Team: Minnesota Timberwolves
Current Team: Minnesota Timberwolves
Age: 30
Ratings: C A+ A+ A C B
Analysis: This dude has monster ratings but he doesn't sim all that great. Handles are good but not great, same can be said about rebounding and stocks. He does have A+ outside but not enough scoring volume to be considered in the realm of elite PGs in the league. Still a good player.
19. SG Chris Ford
Reward Team: New Jersey Nets
Current Team: Minnesota Timberwolves
Age: 28
Ratings: B- A+ B B+ C- B
Analysis: This guy is so random, I had to look at every roster to find out where he is. He looks solid, nothing special. Amazing shooter with good volume, good steal-to-turnover ratio, decent rebounder. There's no area where he excels, he doesn't look to be elite. He is eligible to be moved to PG so maybe that could be fun? Not sure on this one honestly.
