Free Agency Review:
The 2061 NBA free agency period saw several significant signings across different teams. Here’s a recap of the notable signings:
• The Detroit Pistons signed point guard Slick Watts to a three-year deal worth $40,687,500. Watts will bring his skills and experience to the Pistons’ backcourt. Watts is a stock man and made for an inside or balanced offense. I am not sure I would have paid him that much, but he could be worth it depending on how the Pistons construct the rest of their roster.
Grade: B
• The Washington Wizards made a major move by signing point guard Charles Johnson to a lucrative seven-year contract worth $138,600,000. Johnson’s arrival is expected to bolster the Wizards’ playmaking abilities, but honestly, who is this guy? Is he uncamped? Hadn’t heard or seen this guy prior to this.
Grade: C+
• The Phoenix Suns secured shooting guard David Thompson for the next six years, agreeing to a deal worth $90,000,000. Thompson’s scoring prowess will add firepower to the Suns’ lineup. The Suns needed a splash and get it by stealing Thompson from the Nets. He turns it over too much for me.
Grade: C+
• The Minnesota Timberwolves added experienced point guard Rick Adelman to their roster on a one-year contract valued at $4,500,000. Adelman will provide leadership and strategic guidance to the shitty Timberwolves team. Not bad to get a starting PG for the MLE. The Wolves just need to tread water.
Grade: B+
• The Golden State Warriors signed shooting guard Stu Lantz to a one-year contract worth $4,600,000. Lantz is a JAG (just another guy). He’s a solid depth piece for the Warriors.
Grade: B-
• The Seattle Super Sonics acquired point guard Herm Gilliam for one year, agreeing to a contract worth $18,000,000. Gilliam will contribute to the Super Sonics’ backcourt depth. I’m sure the main reason he was brought back was due to his bird years as I believe the Sonics are tanking.
Grade: B
• The Charlotte Hornets made a one-year deal with shooting guard Dwight Smith for $4,500,000. Smith will provide scoring and perimeter defense for the Hornets. Dwight for MLE is a steal. Good pickup by Jah.
Grade: B+
• The Denver Nuggets secured small forward Leonard Gray for the next three years, signing him for $28,500,000. Gray is so interesting. Royal and the Nuggets are entering their CY and need talent. Gray certainly is talented. I wonder if his future is at PF given he takes ZERO 3s?
Grade: B+
• The San Antonio Spurs made a significant signing, inking center Marvin Webster to a seven-year contract worth $115,500,000. Webster might have been the one guy worth a max deal imo. He’s a stud has some room to grow and improve in TCs.
