1) How was your TC?
Greeme- It was solid+. Bill had a +3. Vinnie went +1. Wilkes got to b+ outside. Ford had a monster +5 in Toronto. Those are the only guys that matter. Would have liked bill's d to go up and vinnie's outside but that is nitpicking.
Ny- It was fine. Can't really say it was good or bad. My team is a bit older so I guess it's great that nobody really died. Kind of wished I got better rebounding from Eddie and I wish Ollie didn't lose his A defense but that's nitpicking really.
Habes: It was alright. I liked Sparrow’s gains. Like Poquette going up to B+ inside even though I don’t use his scoring at all. Slick is borderline B+/B- scoring so I was hoping TC would take him there. Didn’t have big expectations though.
2) What are your plans this season?
Greeme-I'm planning on tanking. Hopefully not having bigs will help
NY- Trying to win. I'm happy with my big 3. Just need to find those small tweaks here and there. Schlong looks like he'll be a solid PG and hopefully I can depend on him for some solid bench time. Gotta figure out what the best rotation is overall. Might even get creative and bench Dino and let him super sub.
Habes: I’m competing. The East is stacked and I’m coming off a major f-up last season, so I would’ve been better off trying to get my pick. Talked to Erbes about it but we didn’t get a deal done. I think I improved the team and we’re more balanced this season, but don’t have high hopes.
3) Who had the best TC?
Greeme- Overall I think the kings did. Might have even saved them.
NY- Indy with Andrew Toney was great for sure. Heat got better for sure. Kings had a solid TC as well.
Habes: Heat got very lucky with Sikma going +2 in rebounding. Probably the Magic though. Donaldson looks like a stud. Good gains for Cheeks and Magic. They may be a playoff team now.
4) Will the CY teams make it? What do they need to do?
Greeme- They will both make it. They don't have to do anything besides hope there isn't a conference
realignment.
NY- I think both make it but my confidence is because of the West tbh. Kings just traded for Phil and it looks like they traded spare parts for him so I think they should be ok. That said, they may need to acquire some scoring and 3pt shooting. I do hate to see Corzine or Boston, potentially, playing a big role for them. I think the Kings D is going to have to carry them. The Nuggets have the assets to get better. Not sure royal wants to make moves to do it though. Nuggets really lack the rebounding to make it work right now. Royal has made CY in various situations when it looked unlikely so I can't say he won't for sure.
Habes: Yeah. The West is so bad. With the Mavs and Rockets now rebuilding, there’s no competition for the last two playoff spots. Royal needs to make deals obviously, but once he does, it should be a cakewalk. And the Kings are poorly constructed but talented enough to easily reset.
5) If you were the Warriors GM what would you do?
Greeme- Get a volume scorer at sg. Get more depth all over. Pretty much every team that got cyd lacked depth
NY- It's tough. Brewer looks solid. Knight is solid on a great deal. That said, if they want that stud SF/SG, they need salary. Wil is great off the bench but if they can downgrade from him to upgrade at the 2, I think that would benefit them a lot. I guess they can run Walton/Jones/Jones/Brewer/Calvin with Knight super sub but the 3pt shooting might be rough. I think Wil for assets might be the next play. The team isn't old. They have time to make something work.
Habes: I think you know what your roster needs. The bigger issue from my perspective is you haven’t really dipped your toes in the water yet as a GM. You seem to crowdsource your moves. IDK if you make trade offers or if you consult others before making deals but from the outside it seems like you’re not making your own decisions or sending offers. I get that you’re new but you should be willing to make your own moves by now. My bad if I’m wrong.
6) Best trade of the offseason?
Greeme- Sixers got caldwell for the 6th pick. Caldwell taking everything account including contract is extremely valuable and he only gave up the 6th pick in a 5 man draft
NY- Don Adams to the Kings, mostly because it was a big move that the Kings needed to make.
Habes: Kermit deal looks great for the Wiz. I didn’t know who Larry Smith was at the time of the deal, but I feel like he’s already a lot more valuable than Kermit. Kermit should have worse value than Mel Davis imo. Larry has sick ratings at 21, will become a shotblocker if the A potential is legit, and still has +17 available for things like steals, midrange, or strength. I don’t really fault Chip for that deal–he needed the talent to survive the CY–but it looks awesome for HF.
7) Worst trade of the offseason?
Greeme- Broph moving Ray and not getting anything. I get way he did it but still
NY- Didn't love the Elvin Hayes deal. I get that the Suns needed a frontcourt player and Hayes was good but I don't think Hayes should've been the guy they focused on age wise and contract wise.
Habes: IDK. I don’t think it was that busy an offseason. I thought I got pretty thin value for Ollie, but Mahorn is looking awesome so can’t say it was that bad. Mavs didn’t get much for Don Adams. I agree with others that Broph should’ve focused on getting max value for Ray and worried about Lewis separately.
8) Who is winning it all? Dark Horses?
Greeme- It is the spurs year. Dark Horses- Chicago and indy
NY- I think the Spurs take it. In the East, the Heat come out. Bulls/Heat ECF and Lakers/Spurs WCF. Dark horse in the East, maybe the Pacers. In the West, Grizzlies.
Habes: I think it’s pretty open this year. I think the Heat and Knicks can trade their way into being the favorites. Not sure what the plan is in the backcourt in Atlanta. If DBW figures that out he should be hard to beat. Bulls, Lakers, Grizz, and Spurs are also in the mix.
9) Give me a hot take for BBS
Greeme- Vinnie Johnson will win multiple 6th man awards
NY- idk if this is a hot take but one of the Hawks big 3 gets traded before seasons end with the Hawks gearing up for a quick rebuild happening.
Habes: Hmmm. I hate the handling hit for SGs. We had a SG rule and it made sense, it just didn’t get executed as intended. Don’t think we needed to add a handling hit since the relevant hit is to rebounding and that’s already going to occur.
