There were three pre drafts, let this be the first of the draft lotto reviews. The Moldy Lasagna kid presents the top 13 reasons why the Mavs suck... I mean the top 13 picks in review.
1) Minnesota Timberwolves - Isiah Thomas
PG 6'1'' 180 20 B C B+ B+ C A
Elite inside, handling and quickness. GOod jumpshot and steals.
BPA- So much debate who should be first, when there is only one clear cut choice. Shuan Livingston was a stud of BBS 5 and IT is a better version. When I finally got around to doing my draft sheet, I realized, I was gonna hate being jumped for the number 1 pick.
A+
2) Dallas Mavericks(from Kings) - Fat Lever
SF 6'3'' 170 21 B C+ B B B A
Can play PG. Elite quickness. Good jumpshot, steals and strength.
This was probably the wrong pick, but it is what it is. Laffette's handles might be the death of him, becuase if he cant play PG, he's an average SF. Probably what I should have done is taken Nance and Sleepy with the 4th.
B
3) Toronto Raptors - Larry Nance
PF 6'10'' 205 22 B C C B+ C+ A
Good inside scoring, jumpshot, handles, quickness, steals and post defense. Solid blocks and strength.
Any other draft Larry would have been the number 2 pick. Rob sent a list and was rewarded with a cant miss stud. Love me some Nance.
A
4) Dallas Mavericks - Buck Williams
PF 6'8'' 215 21 B C- C- B B+ A
Elite strength. Good inside scoring, handles and steals. Solid rebounding.
This is where the draft starts getting tricky. Buck, Chambers and Blackman were all a toss up for 4-6. Buck is gonna be either a good, or an amazing big. It is all gonna come down to TC luck. If he ends up just good, then this was a blown opertunity to get a scoring stud.
B-
5) Denver Nuggets(CHI making pick) - Sleepy Floyd
PG 6'3'' 170 21 B- C+ B- C+ C- A
Good inside scoring, handling and quickness. Solid jumpshot and steals.
Base on my conversations with Play, was a little surprised by this pick, but he must be positive DrJ is coming back, and so he also bypassed Chambers. Either that or our conversation at 4 am his time caused him to look elsewhere for the next Bull. Really like Sleepy, though his D is suspect.
B
6) New Jersey Nets - Tom Chambers
PF 6'10'' 220 22 B B+ C- C+ C A
Good inside scoring, jumpshot, 3 point shot, handles and post defense.
Tom has to be a SF to stand a chance, and the huge question is "can he play the perimeter when it comes to D?" The guy is gonna score, and score in bunches. Greeme probably came on his running shoes when he saw Tom was still available.
A-
7) New York Knicks (from Wizards) - Mark Aguirre
SF 6'6'' 232 22 B+ C+ C+ C+ C A
Elite inside scoring. Good jumpshot. Solid handling, quickness and strength.
Pre Draft Marks name was all over the place, with several mock drafters having him up at the top of their boards. Coming out of the draft he looks like more of a #2 than a #3, and without the 3 point shot, he seems more like a liability. Swing and a miss not taking Ronaldo here.
D
8) New York Knicks - Ronaldo Blackman
SG 6'6'' 190 22 B B C- C+ C A
Good inside scoring, jumpshot and handles. Solid 3 point shot. Mediocre steals.
This guy is gonna score, and score often. Mike redeemed himself taking Ronaldo, and should be wispering in his wifes ear "babe, you should make love to me tonight, I got Blackman with the 8th pick, and he should have gone 4th or 5th. Afterwords I'll make us some pizzas to enjoy the afterglow"
A+
9) Milwaukee Bucks - Alton Lister
C 7'0'' 240 23 C C- D B+ B B
Elite strength. Good post defense. Solid blocks, jumpshot and rebounding.
Oh Andy found a sleeper. Had expected picks 4 and 10, and Alton was on the radar. Easily could have been drafted higher.
B+
10) Philadelphia 76ers - Sam Williams
PF 6'8'' 210 22 B- C- C- B- C+ B
Solid inside scoring, jumpshot, blocks and steals.
Not really sure what is going on with this pick. Needs his camps early, and a few hail marry's. Maybe Erbes had a bad experience smoking herb? Thought his name sounded too much like Herb? #rd bes Williams in the lotto, and took him ahead of Herb.
D
11) Detroit Pistons - Herb Williams
C 6'10'' 242 23 C+ D+ C- B+ C+ B
Elite strength. Good handling. Solid blocks and inside scoring.
Oooohhhhh Maybe habes has some incriminating photos of Erbes, and told him not to take Herb? Or autumn harold got Erbes out of a jam when he owed the library 10K for never returning every book from the Lemony Snicket series? Love Herb, gonna be a solid player in BBS for some time to come.
B+
12) Los Angeles Lakers - Danny Schayes
C 6'11'' 235 22 C+ C C- B+ B- B
Good jumpshot, post defense and strength. Solid inside scoring and strength.
Sadly Danny is no Dolph. Not a bad pick, not a great one. Not sure there was ma lot beter to be had, but over all a safe pickl and cant hate on that.
B
13) Utah Jazz - Orlando Woolridge
SF 6'9'' 215 22 A- C C C+ C B
Good inside scoring, jumpshot, handles and quickness. Elite jumping.
Orlando recently dunked over a pickup with his elite jumping ability. Cant wait to see him in the AllStar dunk contest!
