Here I’ll take a look at each team in the east and focus on one player that needs to have a good TC.
Boston Celtics - 539 Darnell Valentine PG 22 6'1'' 183 C B B B C- B
The Celtics are in win now mode but appear to have all of their eggs in Valentines basket as he looks like the only viable option for PG. Ahsan and the Cs are near the hard cap and don’t have much wiggle room. Valentine will need to improve drastically for this team to compete for a title. Otherwise, we will see a wasted year of KAJ.
Miami Heat - 604 Jack Sikma SF 26 6'11'' 230 B- B+ C+ B- A B
The Heat love Sikma and have turned down numerous offers for him throughout the years. He’s a fun player and can be a huge advantage given his A rebounds from the wing position. Might not be the greatest defender there but the Heat should be able to live with that. Miami needs to see Sikmas outside improve here in TC. I know Kobe will say Bird should be on this list, but he’s a stud and I expect him to continue to improve.
New Jersey Nets - 601 Tom Chambers SF 22 6'10'' 220 B+ A- C- B- C A
Chambers looks awesome after the move to SF and camps. It’s not that vital that he explodes here, but I’m sure greeme would love to see it. The areas he’s looking at are boards and the scoring. Would be nice to see both improve in TC.
New York Knicks - 616 Darryl Dawkins PF 24 6'11'' 251 A C- D+ A- B A
So many routes I could have gone, but went with Dawkins. Somehow he is only 24 years old still. Last year he received the +15, so I am banking on him improving despite a stagnant last 2 TCs. Those boards must improve.
Orlando Magic - 205 James Donaldson C 24 7'2'' 275 B C- C A- A- A
Donaldson is already a stud, but I’m sure DB would love to see him improve here and take the next step towards being a super star. If he can develop a more balanced and efficient offensive game, wooo watch out.
Philadelphia 76ers - 392 Earl Cureton PF 24 6'9'' 210 B C D+ A- A- B
What an underrated player. I feel like he’s not talked about enough. Low TOs, solid blocks. Erbes would be thrilled with a +2 or3 TC from Earl.
Washington Wizards - 464 Eddie A. Johnson SF 22 6'7'' 215 B B+ C C+ C A
Eddy has to be hoping Eddie takes a leap. He was a prize gem of the offseason last year for the Wiz and looks eh. Pretty sure he has camps left and he needs them now. A strong TC will give the Wiz two elite guards.
Atlanta Hawks - 191 Fessor Leonard C 28 7'1'' 220 C+ D+ C- A- A D
The Hawks just acquired Fessor and hope he at least stays the same. Given his D scouted potential and the fact that he was an UDFA there is some fear that Fessor might be on the decline. If he stays the same post TC, I think the Hawks would be happy.
New Orleans Hornets - 510 Jay Vincent PF 22 6'7'' 220 B C C- B C+ B
This is a pretty underwhelming roster all around. Vincent was Jahs first pick this year and could develop into the future starting PF. He has a long ways to go though and will need to get in the gym working on those rebounds.
Chicago Bulls - 517 Sleepy Floyd PG 21 6'3'' 170 B B B- C+ C- A
The Bulls dealt Eric Money for Floyd, who looks like the next Money tbh. B B scoring for a PG entering their first TC is HUUUUGE. I expect him to blow up and be a superstar tbh. If he can maintain that inside or improve there, we have a stud on our hands. Expecting the outside, handles and D to have the normal positive PG TCs.
Cleveland Cavaliers - 98 World B. Free PG 78 37.6 24.2 4.0 10.1 2.3 0.2 2.9 .457 .823 .376
The motto here has to be “just don’t die”. WBF is locked into a big deal, along with Ben P and other Cavs. There really isn’t a guy here that is expected to have a positive TC, so I went with WBF. He’s one poor TC from being a sunk cost.
Detroit Pistons - 553 Herb Williams C 23 6'10'' 242 C+ D+ C- B+ B- B
Easy to go with their lottery pick. He’s looking like they’re third big right now and will need to improve that rebounding, which seems like a common theme league wide. Herb should block well, so with improved rebounds, he’ll be a great third big for the CY Pistons.
Indiana Pacers - 503 Andrew Toney SG 24 6'3'' 178 B+ A- B- B+ C- B
The defending EC champs are pretty well rounded and don’t need much here. A slight improvement from Toney would be big for this teams chances at making another finals appearance.
Milwaukee Bucks - 583 Alton Lister C 23 7'0'' 240 C C- D A- B+ B
Lister looks good after camps. He needs to take this improvement into TC and continue to get better on the boards, blocks and taking care of the ball. If he has some potential, we should see a solid improvement. Looking forward to his Tc.
Toronto Raptors - 373 Cliff Robinson PF 21 6'9'' 220 B+ C+ C- B+ B A
The Raps have some good young talent: Kiki, Cliff and Nance. Could have gone with any of them but went with Cliff as this will be his 4th TC and he hasn’t turned the corner yet. It’s a big one for Cliff as he enters the last year of his contract. Braz would love to see the rebounds and inside improve, as well as get some volume.
