The Lasagna Kid: Knights of the Round Table version 64
Welcome one and all to another of the grandest of roundtables! Where the Knights bring forth their wisdom as we embark on the 64th season of BBS2020. This seasons knights are CC, Andy, Galo and Kobe
So, we have three teams in CY so we’ll start with those. What do you think the Mavs chances are, and is there something glaring they need to do?
Dream's Team - Mavs for sure make it after trading for Bingo, Murphy, and Lanier. Plus they drafted Nique? Gonna be one of the top teams in the west.
nybombers3 - I think they could use a back up PG. I believe they traded Eddie Jordan. Ainge should fill that role fine but ideally, you have someone solid that can fit that role incase of injury. Maybe more stocks and some better 3pt shooting overall. I think they should easily reset though. Let's go with 52 wins.
Galo - Mavs look OK right now - Nique looks good despite what the naysayers said. I would just try to get a 3rd big and round out the frontcourt rotation. Maybe Hanzlik and a 1st? Idk.
kobe Mavs look fine after all that free talent, still might need to move some of their youth but they should be ok in the shitty West.
The Nets GM hit CY for the first time ever, is he gonna survive? Should he be worried about how preseason went?
Dream's Team - Nets should make it easily. Greeme is Greeme and with his experience he’ll make it out in the east.
nybombers3 - I think they reset as well. Their frontcourt looks solid but that is likely their weakest point. Tree is their best stock guy and after that, it's a sharp decline. That said, not playing Cartwright much means less rebounding. It's a trade off that could work (I don't recall how it went last year for the Nets) but it's something to look at. They should have enough scoring in the backcourt and the D is fine back there. Let's go with 47 wins.
Galo - It's greeme so he should squeak by. He's top 10 in lowest boards in the league. Also not sure why he's starting Ford over Henderson (trade me Henderson if you're not using him!). He should figure it out.
kobe - Yea he got GG for nothing and should be able to make a few more moves for upgrades if he needs to.
Last are the Wizards, has Eddie folded up shop in the land of Washington? Is it just me or has he been MIA?
Dream's Team - I think Wizards should be okay. They added Cowens to a 38 win team from last year. He’ll give them 5-10 more wins and Eddy will make it. MIA? Maybe he’s been busy idk. Either way Wizards are a playoff team.
nybombers3 - I can see the Wiz missing the playoffs but getting in with 43 wins. Wiz have a solid looking frontcourt. Eddie and Davis is pretty blah for the Wings spot and CJ has taken steps back. Wiz could use some important depth. Who's the 6th man? Ideally it would be Odis but I think he'll be starting, putting one of those meh wings off the bench. Maybe they'll be most successful there and that's what I'm more so hoping for.
Galo - Ya Eddy has been busy with real world stuff and work. He also said he's a little turned off by Eddie Johnson, his former #2 pick just being an OK wing. I think he wants to make it but also doesn't have a ton of time to make moves at the moment.
kobe - He has been busy and lost interest it seems. Hopefully he can make it so he can tank and hopefully get rejuvenated.
What are your thoughts on trades in the league? Is there a conspiracy, or are some people in the right place at the right time?
Dream's Team - Teams looking to get worse, teams looking to get better. IMO nothing has changed. Just fun trading all around. However, the Buse conspiracy still confuses me, though. Had a deal with Wolves/Knicks involving Buse but both got voided/reworked. Someone feel me in on the situation between Mike and Charles 😅.
nybombers3 - The biggest asset in the league tends to be cap space. Obviously having picks and youth is important but talent is typically available for cheap/free if you have cap space. I think ultimately, it's as simple as being in the right place at the right time. Next year, for example, the tanking will likely be insane and there will be big time talent given away for 2nds and a reach around.
Galo - It's really right place at the right time and having the right connections with guys when they are buying/selling. I don't think there's a conspiracy but think we're getting to a spot where teams have lots of bloated contracts so guys get dealt for free or next to nothing because the payroll is huge.
kobe - Most right place, right time I guess but guys that are just giving ppl away should do a better job of trying to get value not just take the first offer that comes.
What trade was the biggest overpay recently in your opinion?
Dream's Team - Not really sure. Haven’t really been paying attention except my trades to get worse 😅
nybombers3 - My deal for Artis. Scott looks great. Didn't think he'll fall to 9 or 10 or whatever I had. He was a great pick there and looks to be a stud already.
Galo - Probably overpaid a bit for McGinnis - thought I could resign him cheap but shit the fan. Otherwise, nothing really sticks out to me.
kobe - Hard to say, I remember thinking the Nuggets gave up too much for Money. Any time anyone gives a lot of value for a PG then I don't like it.
Are you gonna tank for the 84 draft? Who is your consolation pick in 84 if you picked at #5?
Dream's Team - Oh for sure. MJ/Dream/Barkley/Stockton gonna look good next to the Laimborghini. Consolation pick if I had to pick #5? Maybe Sam Perkins. Or trade the pick.
nybombers3 - I hope but it might be my CY year. That said, if I did tank and picked 5, idk. Alvin Robertson will likely be an A defender off bat. Kevin Willis was a pretty solid big. Sam Bowie could be a good player, maybe. Depends on what Spencer has in mind for him.
Galo - Nah gave it up - usually when I tank it doesn't go well. Maybe Kevin Willis? Should be a very good big in BBS and won a ring with the Spurs before hanging it up.
kobe - Depends on how this season goes, if we suck then I'm gonna trade everyone and tank next year. Not sure will have to see the draft file/notes first.
As some have picked up, I enjoy going to concerts with my wife, what are your top 3 concerts you have seen?
Dream's Team - Not really a concert guy but I’ve attended a concert featuring a rock band called Dashboard Confessional. Other than that, I don’t really remember any other concerts I’ve attended. Nothing stands out top 3.
nybombers3 - I'm not really a concert person tbh. I recall going to a romeo santos concert with my wife but that was all her. This concert actually is remembered for a different reason altogether. Went to a slugherhouse show but that was mostly because my friends offered to drive. That's it.
Galo - Jay-Z/Linkin Park Collision Course at the Roxy / Kanye West at the LA Coliseum / The Eagles at Acrisure Arena / Coachella 2014 & 2015
kobe - Jason Isbell, Tyler Childers, Cold War Kids
Last but not least, how’s your team gonna do this year? Where is your team gonna be in 5 years?
Dream's Team - Tank for a top pick obviously. Watch Laimbeer, Woolridge, and Dailey develop. But in 5 years? Hopefully become a playoff contender.
nybombers3 - Ass. I think we'll suck. So, yeah. In 5 years, I'll be on the WL. Maybe I'll be on a different team already or can just watch from the sidelines.
Galo - Hopefully we'll be competitive and top 3 in the West. In 5 years, probably we'll be in rebuild mode.
kobe - Probably about the same as last year. 50+ wins. Hard to say in 5 years, I really want to tank next year but not sure if I'll be able to.
