1 Indiana Pacers - Clyde Drexler
Grade: A
Pacers add their next franchise player in the "Glide". He should develop into a superstar in no time. Personally I would have picked Sampson here considering how valuable bigs are in this league, but the Pacers couldn't go wrong with Clyde.
2 Los Angeles Lakers (from Kings) - Ralph Sampson
Grade: A+
Yes, this pick gets a better grade here since I projected Sampson #1. Sampson should dominate in this league and find himself in the same class with the KAJ's, Moses's, etc.
3 Los Angeles Clippers - Alvin Robertson
Grade: A-
I think many believed he was going #3 and the inevitable happened. Alvin has a chance to develop into one of the best defending guards in the league. Clippers add a dog here.
4 New York Knicks (from Trail Blazers) - Manute Bol
Grade: C-
Yes, that was my reaction after this pick. I had Bol projected to go after the lottery or just the tail end of it. But Bol at #4? #4?! He should provide instant blocks but the rest of his game? Eh...time will tell. Obviously a huge gamble from Mike but hopefully the pick works out for him.
5 Houston Rockets (from Jazz) - Doc Rivers
Grade: A-
My team originally had this pick and I was so torn between Doc or Thurl so I swapped it for the pick after this one. Doc should develop into a nice all around guard. Houston has a history of drafting great pg's and Doc could be another one.
6 Utah Jazz (from Rockets) - Thurl Bailey
Grade: A-
Like I said, I was torn between Doc and Bailey so I selected whoever became available here. I love adding a big that can score and block shots and Thurl should provide that for my squad. He has room to improve in boards as well.
7 Seattle Super Sonics- Jeff Malone
Grade: B
There was some criticism about this pick but I can see why Seattle made this selection. Elite inside scoring with A potential? Too good to pass up and probably the best player available here. However, the rest of his game are major question marks. Don't hate the pick but can't say I love it either.
8 New York Knicks (from Pistons) - Sedale Threatt
Grade: B-
Nice guard with solid notes. He should come in and contribute immediately even on a tanking Knicks squad.
9 New Orleans Hornets (from Celtics)- Greg Kite
Grade: A-
Didn't know who Kite was until I read his notes again. Impressive. He didn't even cross my mind while looking at the class tbh. With that said, Kite could develop into a nice role player in New Orleans or even a starter with camps.
10 San Antonio Spurs (from Hornets)- Vern Fleming
Grade: C
Meh? Not sure if he's lottery worthy. Looks more like a mid/late first rounder. But you never know with Ashes. He tends to turn guards into stars in his system.
11 Cleveland Cavaliers- Derek Harper
Grade: A+
I absolutely love this pick here. Harper should develop into a starter in this league. I would have taken him at 8 over Threatt.
12 Seattle Super Sonics (from Wizards) - Michael Cage
Grade: A-
Another pick I like and even more so than the Malone selection. Cage looks really nice despite not having any shot blocking ability. He'll be a nice big off the bench behind Eaton and West. However, if given major minutes I could see him averaging 15/10.
13 Chicago Bulls - Sidney Green
Grade: A-
Bulls grab a nice looking big here. Elite strength that can do a little bit of everything. Shot blocking could be a work in progress but I think he will do just fine in the Windy City.
