1. Let's start with the draft. Was Ewing the obvious 1 or Sabonis/someone else?
Galo : Ya I think it was Pat. Spence seems to always bless ex-Knicks and I'm sure Ewing will be a stud. I can see why a lot of folks were high on Sabonis though.
Erbes : Hey! Thanks for having me! Copping out and saying too hard to tell right now. Whichever of the two has the best rebounding should have been #1. Look at the notes. I don't think I saw a single 'elite' rebounding or even a 'good' rebounding in the initial notes. Admittedly didn't check all of Spence's responses to questions, but that's a huge shift. Rebounding about to become super sparse and very valuable. If I had the pick I'd probably go Sabonis just because his notes included an extra 'solid' in post defense and he appears to have better handles.
JR : I would’ve taken Ewing. I think you can’t go wrong with either guy though. Sabonis will probably be elite.
2. Any great/terrible picks during the rest of the lotto part?
Galo : I really like Porter at #12 for NJ. I had him much higher and remember he was stud in previous BBS versions - one great PG TC and he'll be nice for a long time. Not sure if he'll get camps early though. Malone fell to #4 and Tisdale to No. 16 to the Rockets - I think both can be great SFs in the right situation. Not a big fan of Joao Vianna pick at #15 unless he has good stocks.
Erbes : I was surprised Kobe went with another project scorer in Mullin. Yes the ratings look good, but after Bird I thought he'd shy away. Not a bad pick, he's probably 4th best prospect, but interesting nonetheless. I'd also take Dumars over Maline. Poor Karl has bust written all over him imo (I know I'm not the first to say that). Oakley dropping also surprised me. Best rebounding rating coming in, I think. Better notes than Malone too.
JR : Personally i don’t like Malone. He might be a great scorer and rebounder but having limited stocks hurts his value when trying to contend.
3. What was your favorite pick outside the lotto?
Galo : Tied at Tisdale at #16 and Catledge at #22. Missed Catledge's notes at the very end - that's what it pays to read, kids.
Erbes : Really surprised Scott Skiles dropped as much as he did. He's got an elite in the notes and looks like he came in with solid handles. Was also surprised Joao Vianna dropped. Maybe the new SF rule scared some folks off of him and his elite jumpshot. But he looks like a scorer.
JR : I liked Xavier McDaniel. Not sure if he’ll be good but he’s the one i like the most. I know it was 14 but still.
4. Looking at FA, anything stand out?
the original michael :Cant figure out why IT didn’t take a max. Makes no sense. I was not a fan of Chambers getting a max deal either.
Galo : Not much aside from Chambers and IT. This will be a quiet FA for the most part with Day 1 in the books already.
Erbes : IT not taking a max from multiple teams is pretty interesting. FBB strikes again! I also like Brian's pickup of Walton. Pretty good use of cap. He might have something cookin' down there. The Joe Bryant max (?) looks gross. Can't lose him for nothin', but yucky.
JR : Nothing stands out except IT taking less than MAX when multiple teams offered MAX. Sucks i could’ve used him.
5. Hawks won another title. Is Moses the GOAT player in BBS?
Galo : Nah, still Steph IMO. Moses can make a case for best big ever with KG, Duncan, Wilt, KAJ etc. Moses has definitely been dominant though.
Erbes : Idkkk if he's best player, but DB probably best GM. I'm waiting for my Rickey Green tradeback. I am so dumb. But Magic probably GOAT. Averages triple double with two steals. Wowsa!
JR : Probably. Honestly don’t remember many other guys who dominated and won. CP3 does come to mind. I was in and out of the league though.
6. Do the Hawks come out of the East?
Galo : I think DBW makes one more run at it yeah but not sure. Orlando made a couple moves to get younger this offseason to lengthen their window. Indiana might contend but not sure if john thinks they're ready. Detroit is hardcapped currently. Toronto has Marty - so don't see a lot of people challenging them with the exception of the first two.
Erbes : Maybe! The depth situation in Atlanta will be interesting. Dan just made some solid additions. Either Hawks or Magic for the foreseeable future.
JR : Nah i got the Magic this season. Ervin Magic Johnson will show he’s the best player in the league!
7. The Suns made the finals from the West. Are they coming out of the West this season?
Galo : MRR still in his prime so probably. Utah is making a nice push and they have elite bigs and added a new backcourt of Johnson & Johnson. Seattle might be interesting in their CY after adding DR. J as well.
Erbes : West is the crapshoot. Like the Suns, Wolves, Jazz, Mavs. Will go with Jazz if he can get another scorer.
JR : I don’t think so. They are a good team but i think they take a step back.
8. What are your thoughts on the SF rule?
Galo : It sucks but when people do some shit this is what happens. The rebounding edge isn't much of a thing as it's been tamed/curved with this new draft classes but people still bitch about it so soon we'll have rules for every position at this rate.
Erbes : It's a shoulder shrug. Was anyone actually abusing SF? Feel like Play would have been on that shit like white on rice in a snowstorm in the DC threads. Probably good for the league.
JR : I like it. Less bigs playing there. Never understood why somebody would want to be able to play a true center at SF. Cheeseheads no packers.
9. Do the Sonics reset?
Galo : I don't see why not. West is still pretty Charmin soft. The only reason Diego didn't reset was because he sat on his team and didn't make anymore moves. He's got good players so should be easy to clinch 42/playoffs.
Erbes : Dr. J is niceeeee, but is that it? I feel like I'm missing a move. Probably need two more moves. I don't see another scorer.
JR : unless i get a good PG i doubt i do. It was fun!
10. There is constant talk about the trade market here. What can be done to fix it?
Galo : This one is tough. I think there's a number of factors - teams don't want to give up young studs and old vets on large contracts have zero to little value. With that said, there's not a lot of true prospects anymore that guys can develop into stars or very good role players. So if you miss in the draft on a stud, you're basically stuck trying to get old talent. I also think alot of guys are kind of getting over BBS and just aren't into it anymore so there's no push for trades like there was 6-9 months ago. Losing active trading Skillz, Braz and Royal to a certain extent is going to hurt the transaction market without question.
Erbes : Ehhhhh it's probably a restart at this point. People seem content, myself included, in riding out cores until they die. Restart probably juices activity around here and would bring back some of the more active GMs. Spence doesn't seem inclined and can't say I blame him. Seems like a lot of work. Ride or die with Spence so whatever he wants!!
JR : There is no coming back from this. People set this standard long ago. It will stay this way with this group of GMs. People don’t trade young studs in their prime they wait for them to hit 30+ and nobody wants to pay up for those players. It is what it is.
