BBS20 GM Waiting List Carousel/Retirement Home (Pt. 2)
When it comes to new GMs, often times we never know who Spencer will bring back until it’s announced. And, now with the waiting list at its driest point possibly since BBS20’s inception, we’ll take a look at the best list of prospective GMs that could potentially fill the next opening or two. We’ll group these potential retread guys together into a realistic prospect or permanent retiree bucket.
*Part 2 features a mix of some recently departed and some that have been gone much longer. Part 1 is here ICYMI: (https://bbs2020.proboards.com/thread/17842/bbs20-waiting-list-carousel-retirement)
chipper (Chipper)
Former Bucks, Pistons and Kings GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 1,226 Wins / 1625 Losses)
Analysis – Chipper is well liked amongst most circles so he should be welcomed back on the WL. Prior to his pending CY in Sacramento, chipper took a personal hiatus from BBS which most people would understand. His tenures have often had more downs than ups. He started in the creation draft as the Hawks then got fired due to inactivity, then got handed the Bucks which quickly derailed. Onto Detroit and Sacramento where there was more highs and lows. Overall, I think he’d like to get another shot to reconcile some past missteps and should be in line for one of the next open jobs.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
repentformysins (Martinez)
Former Raptors, Jazz, Nets, Sonics GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 2983 Wins / 3987 Losses)
Analysis- It looks like Martinez is back under a new moniker with the same trolling schtick. Last time we saw Chris, he reneged on a trade with Stool (still shocks me Stool didn’t know he could be outdone by another troll) which was a blockbuster that landed Larry Bird in the Bay area for Karl Malone and picks. Marty faced the backlash and quickly deleted his account to never be heard of again…until recently. Repent for my Sins showed up some maybe he’s embracing religion or it’s the same old shit, different user name. Either way, it will be interesting to see if Spence gives him yet another shot as he’s had at least 4 different teams in this version (Sonics, Nets, Jazz, Raptors).
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
JR (JR)
Former Jazz, Warriors, Sonics GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 2282 Wins / 2231 Losses ) 3 Titles
Analysis- Joe’s another guy that left (again) in a weird fashion. Due to some kind of rift in the 2069 Draft Notes thread, Joe called out that talent is not spread evenly amongst classes specifically citing the 68 Draft seemed to contain 4 HOF talents while the 69 draft had very little superstar talent if any. Spence went a couple round with him then next thing you know, Joe steps down. Is it permanent? Probably not. I’m sure Joe will join again when the time is right and he can only spend so much time away from Royal and the rest of the crew here.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
GAME (Diego)
Former Raptors, Nets, Clippers GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 3538 Wins / 3762 Losses) 2 Titles Total in BBS history
Analysis – GAME is another guy that I’m sure wants back in this league with his buddies at some point. At this point, I can only speculate he’s spending time on online sports betting, discord and with his family. Game has had some success here but it’s been in short waves so hoping his next run will have more sustained success as it should be only a matter of time. I didn’t know how to end his without a reference to ‘Go Diego Go!’ but there it is.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
Go Niners (Ahsan)
Former Rocckets and Celtics GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 3980 Wins / 3703 Losses) 3 Titles in BBS20 – 5 in total BBS history
Analysis – Sometimes, I miss the early Ahsan in this league but realize we may never get the same vibes from him again. Not sure if it was getting married or having his life uprooted in Pakistan – who knows. Aggressive nature and lash outs became a commonplace but maybe it’s on par with his past behavior? Who knows. Either way, I’m sure Ahsan will consider a comeback when he’s in a better headspace but for now, hopefully he joins back on the WL at some point.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
Skillz (Skillz)
Former Knicks and Grizzlies GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 6625 Wins / 5025 Losses) – 8 Titles Total – 2 in BBS20
Analysis – When Skillz left BBS, I think it was a little understated how much of an impact he had on the trading landscape. At his peak, Skillz would be involved in 10-15 trades possibly a season if not more. The guy would trade just for the sake of trading sometimes. Then, he would run his classic stock heavy teams with his inside or balanced offenses – going against the majority that ran outside offenses. He would find these gimmicky like Paccelis Morlende and hype up on the Skillz train. Those were the good ole’ days – now apparently, he’s only back when BBS restarts which is looking like in another 13-14 seasons – who knows?
Possibility? – Permanent Retiree (until restart)
ashes (Ryan)
Former Kings and Spurs GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 5377 Wins / 5084 Losses) 6 Titles Total – 4 in BBS20
Analysis – Another guy that just ran out of time for us is Ashes. One of my favorite podcast guests and a highly decorated GM during his navy assignment in the early days of BBS20 – Ryan ran rough shop in the first couple of years with some dominant Kings teams. After coming back, he took over a Spurs team and also took them to back to back titles in 2062 and 2063. It would be great to have ashes back at some point but given he’s back at stateside he’s probably busier with his personal life and career than ever before. Still, here’s for hope he comes back some day.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
Losanglife (Styro)
Former Hawks and Pacers GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23* - 2843 Wins / 3278 Losses)
Analysis- George is another guy that cited time constraints and his heart just not being in the league anymore after leaving in August. His last tenure with the Pacers lasted almost 30 seasons as replaced Bundy (yes that Bad Bundy) after the 2032 season. George like Game, myself and a couple of others are LA guys so hopefully he makes a reappearance again soon.
Possibility? – Realistic Prospect
Zeke (Beastly)
Former Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves GM
BBS20 Resume (as of 8/1/23*- 900 Wins / 1068 Losses) 1 Finals, 1 Championship
Analysis – *Pt 1 Write Up: Beastly came in hot on the Hue Crew’s coattails then quickly fizzled. He admittingly came into just wanting to troll then realized that didn’t lead to wins and he actually had to GM decently in order to stay in the league. He put together a title team in 2031 and somehow won it all with Lavender Gooms being the second option behind Jordan Poole and Red Rocha. In his second tenure, he took over the Celtics for Zev and Break who was CYed, he lasted 5 seasons then disappeared halfway through his CY seasons kind of like the last time during his Mavs run except this time he landed on the unlucky number of 41 and didn’t make the playoffs. Somehow, I still think he’ll pop back up one day whenever he resurfaces and put his name on the WL.
*Update from the last time we saw Beastly in 10/29/22. He took over the Wolves in the 2061 season after Break got canned again from CY and subsequently ran the team for 5 seasons, landed the #1 pick and took IT over Lever, won for a few seasons then ghosted again. Sounds like his MO after a while but sounds like he’s busy with a legal career so we’ll see if he shows up again at some point
Possibility? – Permanent Retiree
