The 75 Most Valuable Players in BBS - 2004-05
It’s that time of the year again. New draft, new TC, new world. The BBS value landscape changes every sim, but every season we like to take a beat and see where all of our players fall.
Let’s get to it. As always, player value involves production, ratings, contract status, age, camp status, player perception and alike.
As a reminder, I ranked your players much lower than they should be ranked and it is because I have a personal vendetta against you.
Okay, let’s get to it.
Tier 5 (75-48):
A mix: a) very old players who used to be elite but no longer carry the same value because of their age, b) interesting prospects who are not sure things, C) good players in their respective prime’s who can start on contending teams but are not the key to a title team’s success.
Notes: This is the longest “Tier 5” we have had so far, and the pool of interesting players continues to grow and grow. There are some really good players on this list. But a lot of them are on max contracts. If you are just barely worth your contract value, we probably see you here. Otherwise, we have some good young players who just don’t qualify for Tier 4 status and some good role players on reasonable contracts.

Tier 4 (47-35):
Enticing young players (cut-off: age 25) who have the potential to rise on this list in the future. These guys are either flawed, not fully formed, or haven’t reached their respective peaks yet.
Notes: I like all of these guys. I don’t think any have a great chance of becoming Tier ½ stars, but all are valuable players on rookie contracts who have value to literally every team in the league. Most are more fully-formed than the young dudes in tier 5.

Tier 3 (35-24):
Prime-aged or veteran complementary players who are foundational pieces on good teams. These guys are really good, in their prime, but probably wouldn’t be tasked with superstar duties on an elite team. The best # 2 and # 3 bananas in the league.
Notes: This is always the most dicey group, since a lot of the fringe guys on this list could very well be in Tier 5. Are Ron Artest and AK47 that much more valuable than Jerome Moiso for instance? Probably not, but they squeak by because of age and because of the way I categorize players. The rest of the dudes are similar to last year.

Tier 2 (23-13)
Really good players who can function as your best player but are ideally suited as # 2’s on the best, best teams. Some of these guys are # 1s but are moved from tier 1 because of positional scarcity or age. Others are younger and project to be come Tier 1 guys soon.
Notes: A lot of the same cast and crew! Mourning and Shaq are awesome but on the wrong side of 30. Ben Wallace is a human defense by himself. Jason Kidd never gets the credit he deserves. I imagine those are the players people would question. The rest of the list is fairly straight forward. Nash moves from Tier 2 to Tier 1 as the Point Guard landscape depends, his rebounding and potential drops to “D,” and he turns 30.

Tier 1 (12-1)
The best players in the league, period.
Notes: What is wrong with the Spurs? I considered dropping both Jamal and T-Mac because two Tier 1 stars should be enough to carry a team like that, but I do think they would both notch top value in a trade. Wade is better than LeBron right now, but LeBron’s ratings will fill out and he’s going to be a monster. He’s two years younger. I think Kobe is the most dominant two-way player in the league right now. I don’t know if Wade or LeBron’s ~50% outcome is as good as he or Duncan, so they stay at # 3 and 4 for now.
