1. Seattle Supersonics -- Chris Paul PG 6'1'' 175 19 B C B B C A
Not a whole lot to discuss here! Whoever wins the lotto will be rushing to pick Chris Paul. He is one of the best looking prospects to ever enter the league. Looks similar to Tony Parker but more developed outside of outside shooting. For some reason he is also 19 so his potential may hold or even go up in the first TC. Franchise changing player for whoever ends up with him.
2. Atlanta Hawks -- Deron Williams PG 6'3'' 200 21 C+ C+ B C+ C A
Deron does not look like that great, but his notes were pretty solid. I worry a bit about just how high his ceiling is as a scorer but he should be able to reach 20 ppg with ease. I think there are some other solid options here but it is hard to pass up a PG who projects as being 'very good'. He is a safe pick that still has some potential to boom. Can't complain about that!
3. Golden State Warriors -- Andrew Bogut C 7'0'' 260 21 C+ D C+ B B- A
Should Bogut go before Bynum? I'm not sure. The Warriors are in CY so they have no choice but to go with the more NBA ready big man here. I expect them to deal the pick but if they do not then Bogut fills in their big hole at C with a solid starter from day one. Just with camps and some small jumps in TC he should reach A- defense and B+ rebounding. That is pretty solid! Not a future star but a great role playing C.
4. Memphis Grizzlies -- Andrew Bynum C 7'0'' 285 18 B- C- D+ C B- A
I really like rolling the dice on Bynum anywhere from the second pick on. Is there potential for him to bust? Of course. But he enters with a solid base at only 18 and worst case scenario he should still be an above average third big. The Grizzlies could have a very nice big man duo with Dwight and Bynum that fit their system pretty well. He is close to B inside already and will get there with a RC or two.
5. Chicago Bulls -- Danny Granger SF 6'9'' 222 22 B- B- C- B- C B
A potential steal? Granger's notes read very well and he reminds me a lot of Josh Howard. I'm not sure his ceiling is as an elite wing but it is clear he will be a solid starter for many years. If you just camp him out he will already be very close to B A- scoring without ever going through a TC. Hard to find a safer pick than that. There are a lot of wings in this league which is why I am slotting him in below the big men and Deron.
6. Boston Celtics -- Lou Williams SG 6'1'' 175 19 C+ B+ C C D+ A
This is where the draft starts to fall off. I expect there to be some disagreement over who is the better prospect between Monta and Lou. I'm going with Lou. His C+ inside is high enough to be camped to B- and it is hard to see him not hitting A outside in his prime. Are there a lot of no defense guards like this? Yeah. Still like the possibility of a potential hold or jump since he is only 19 mixed in with a solid base that makes it hard for him to bust.
7. Orlando Magic (via Nuggets) -- Monta Ellis SG 6'3'' 185 20 B- C C+ C D+ A
Meh. Monta being so close to C+ inside is worrying. I'm sure he has good potential and with camps he should be a solid combo guard off the bench from day one. Can he be an option scorer for a good team? I'm not sure. The Magic are in year one of their rebuild so I do like taking a chance on the last wing left who does have a shot at being an option scorer. It feels weird doubting a former Warrior.
8. Orlando Magic (via Nets) -- David Lee PF 6'9'' 245 22 B C C C B B
Another former Warrior! David Lee has solid notes that say he can start from day one. Nothing is said about his defense but maybe he can block a bit? If he can hit one a game I will believe that he can actually be a starter in this league. Until then he just looks like another Boozer to me. Still a solid value here who could have a similar career to Brian Grant if all goes well.
9. Indiana Pacers -- Amir Johnson C 6'9'' 240 18 C+ C- C- B C+ B
A perfect Sargo pick! An 18 year old big man who is raw but can block the shot. With a lucky TC he can easily become the best big man in this class. Unfortunately he can also have a poor TC and become a career backup. At this point of the draft I am down with taking that risk! He has solid notes and is already close to B- rebound. I see him as a possible Eddie Griffin type player as long as his shot blocking develops.
10. Orlando Magic -- Marvin Williams SF 6'8'' 237 19 B- C+ D+ C+ C B
No notes, no problem! All the wings left besides Marvin look to have no volume so take a chance on the man with solid B- inside scoring. He is a player who could be beyond saving after a poor first TC but feel like you can say that about the rest of this draft. The Magic have four lotto picks so taking a risk makes sense!
11. Orlando Magic (via Bucks) -- Fran Vazquez PF 6'10'' 240 22 C+ C D C+ C+ A
Boom or bust! Who knows if Fran is any good! With all these picks the Magic are the perfect team to take a chance on him. He will live or die based on where his shot blocking is but based off previous drafts I would guess it is at least close to 50 or so. Possibly very wrong on that but if it is around there with high potential he can become the steal of this draft. Or he can become a leftover FA by 26. Crazy!
12. Indiana Pacers (via Rockets) -- Nate Robinson PG 5'9'' 180 21 B- C+ C C+ C B
A PG with B- inside is always interesting even if his jumping is obviously very high. His outside scoring will develop and with camps a future as a B A- scorer is more likely than not. The risk here of course is his handling. No mention of it in his notes but calling him a combo guard gives the vibe that it might be too low to be saved. I thought the same about Josh Smith so who knows!
13. Utah Jazz -- -- Marcin Gortat C 6'11'' 240 21 C+ C- C- C+ B- B
Gortat is a very boring player but he is basically guaranteed to be either a third big or decent low-end starter. Not exactly exciting but the rest of the big men in this class are all similar. The Jazz are a bit thin up front and he should provide an immediate upgrade off the bench.
14. Indiana Pacers (via Raptors) -- Charlie Villanueva PF 6'11'' 232 21 C+ C+ D+ C C+ A
Not sure if Villanueva actually should go this high but the Pacers can't keep passing on the UConn product! His future is clearly at SF. Can he ever be a starter? Meh. Spencer has mentioned killing perimeter defense for big men but can't say I'm too worried about that. He is close to B- B- scoring and should get there with RCs. Move him to SF with those ratings and just hope for the best.
15. Golden State Warriors (via Lakers) -- Ian Mahinmi C 6'11'' 262 19 C+ D+ C- B- C+ B
The Warriors add another big man here who comes with the bonus of being only 19. He is a RC from B- rebound so the floor here really is being a solid third big after camps. He can provide some value off the bench in their CY while possibly having some potential to be a bit more long-term.
16. Boston Celtics (via 76ers) -- Ersan Ilyasova PF 6'9'' 235 18 C+ B- C- C C+ B
Another PF to SF mover! Ersan is only 18 and has C+ B- scoring and likely plus rebounding as a wing player. I doubt his volume there but he should be a solid backup who can be more that that if he booms in either of his first two TCs. The Celtics are early in their rebuild so this a good spot for him to boom or bust.
17. Indiana Pacers (via Suns) -- Raymond Felton PG 6'1'' 205 21 C C+ B- B- D+ B
An 18 year old, a UConn alum and a Knicks legend! What a great draft for the Pacers! They add another PG here in Felton who should end up as a low-end starter in case Nate Robinson's handling is just too low to start at PG. I can also see them going for a backup big man here instead but sometimes the heart just wants what it wants.
18. Atlanta Hawks (via Mavericks) -- Gerald Green SG 6'6'' 205 19 C B+ C- C C B
Love guards with low volume! Green is likely a scrub but maybe he blows up the first TC. The Hawks are early on in a very long rebuild that may never end so why not take a chance on him. Worst case scenario you can probably deal him to greeme for a first.
19. Golden State Warriors (via Spurs) -- Ronny Turiaf C 6'10'' 249 22 C+ C- D+ B- C+ B
Yet another role player big man for the Warriors! It is no secret that finding depth at the position is hard. Drafting as many as possible and hoping one of them has a very nice TC to help with their CY seems like a pretty good plan. I'm not sure how many of these picks they will actually keep but this is the move for any that they do.
20. Boston Celtics (via Clippers) -- Yaroslav Korlolev SF 6'9'' 203 18 C+ C- C- B+ C B
Love forwards that can't score at all! I have seen this story many times before with Yaroslav. He will 99% suck, let's be real. He will still hold some value with Skillz though so a solid investment here even if he never improves!
21. Indiana Pacers (via Pistons) -- C.J. Miles SF 6'6'' 220 18 C B+ D+ C D+ B
Another 18 year old for the Pacers. Miles is close to C+ inside and has B+ outside. Clearly a SG with the D+ rebounding. Maybe he booms and can become a solid low-end stater. Probably not but just give the young man a chance.
22. Atlanta Hawks (via Timberwolves) -- Channing Frye C 7'0'' 255 22 C A- D+ C+ C+ B
Hard to see Frye as a big man long-term. Also hard to see him as a wing long-term. He only has an hope as a SF most likely but he looks like a career backup to me. With the A- outside he is interesting but everything is so bad it would not surprise me to see him go even lower than this.
23. Golden State Warriors (via Trailblazers) -- Chuck Hayes C 6'6'' 240 22 B- C- D+ C B- B
The theme continues for the Warriors! Hayes will not block the shot but he shows some promise as a post scorer () and as a rebounder. Clearly a career backup but if he can slot into your DC long-term that is a win this late in the draft.
24. Denver Nuggets (via Cavaliers) -- Rashad McCants SG 6'4'' 207 21 B- B- C- C D B
Fringe C+ C+ scoring and D rebounding. Not great. Because he is at low B- B- camps alone can get him to B B+ possibly with some movement in TC. Looks a lot like Jason Richardson and could maybe have a similar career to him. Pretty bad for the lotto but not so bad here.
25. Golden State Warriors (via Heat) -- Joey Graham SF 6'7'' 225 23 B- C C- B C B
Finally a wing player! Joey is middle of the pack B- inside and very close to C+ outside. Looks like a solid role player off the bench from day one who provides some depth for the Warriors.
26. Washington Wizards -- Andray Blatche C 6'11'' 235 19 C+ C- D+ B- C+ B
Only playoff team that owns their pick is of course the Wizards! They add a Wizard legend here in Blatche. No notes and meh ratings but he is only 19 and the Wizards had some luck with Perkins a few seasons back. Could see him going a bit higher than this but honestly I just forgot about him!
27. Milwaukee Bucks (via Hornets) -- Martell Webster SF 6'7'' 230 19 C B+ D+ C C B
Bucks have back to back picks here so will go with two teenagers for them. The first is Martell Webster who has B+ outside. That is all he has but maybe luck will be on the Bucks side.
28. Milwaukee Bucks (via Knicks) -- Cenk Akyol PG 6'6'' 195 18 C+ C+ C+ C C C
An 18 year old PG with C+ C+ scoring. Was good in a previous BBS I think? Worth a look at this point even if the odds are very much against him. No point drafting some scrub in their 20s.
29. Atlanta Hawks (via Kings) -- Johan Petro C 7'0'' 247 19 C+ C- D+ B- C+ C
Our last teen big man! Seems like this draft has quite a few of these boom or bust role players. Not much of a boom but at least he has a chance at being more than just dead salary.
