Friends, foes & hoes,
As we embark on a new season, 12 of the leagues finest executives (and Brian) from around the league took part in the annual Footy Preseason Convention. Not one of the executives in attendance had anything nice to say about Svedda but they did provide us their thoughts on the league's best teams. A snapshot of their comments is provided below:
1. Sacramento Kings (119 votes, 11 First Place Votes)
Brian: Da champs
Andy: Defending champs who just had their best player improve.
Sved: Kobe keeps getting better yay!
Sargo: Obviously #1, elite team and didn't get worse
DB: Still the best of the best with Kobe and Ben. Squad to beat till they arent anymore.
2. Dallas Mavericks (91 votes, 1 FPV)
Play: VC and Gilbert are the best backcourt in the league. Habes has a shitload of talent. I think they can challenge the Kings.
Ahsan: I honestly LOVED their offseason. Vince Carter and Big Dog is an elite wing combo, DWade is an elite PG, nice bigs with Tyson and Gerald plus lot of depth.
DB: Wade, Nenad, Tyson, GWall, Glenn, Aaron may have the best team this year/
Galo: Just got VC and have a really nice young team
3. Cleveland Cavaliers (71 votes)
Brian: still got the best power trio in the game
Sved: Dirk and Garnett still one of the best duos.
Habes: Extremely good, but they run garbage at PG and lack depth. Should have a ring by now, but Svedda is doesn't find the incremental gains.
Sargo: Always in the top 10 and will be as long as they have Garnett. Is this the year the Cavs finally win a title? We'll see
4. New York Knicks (68 votes)
Play: Billups can carry a team by himself. I will never count out Skillz to make moves to keep his team in contention
Andy: They may not look it now but it's skillz. I don't expect any of his current players to be there by sim 2 and I expect he'll be upgrading.
Sargo: Always good, but this time they need a big man and they need one bad
5. Chicago Bulls (50 votes)
Ahsan: I would put them higher but feel like they are still unproven. Still, their roster looks damn good with a backcourt featuring TP+Melo and a frontcourt featuring Amare+Griffin+Hughes. Need to add some depth but still a contender for sure
Andy: As long as they can add a 2nd star with TP they'll be great
Sved: Signing a top 10 player for free really helps!
Habes: This may look insane now, but TP/Griffin were huge additions, Lou comes out of the gate with B/A scoring, and Melo improved. Best in the East.
6. Miami Heat (49 votes)
Play: I know kobe will figure out his PG issue and when he does, his team will be very dangerous with the potential to actually make a BBS Finals
Ahsan: Was Houston not the steal of the offseason? You take one of the best teams in the league and you add a 30+ PPG scorer and the results can be downright DANGEROUS
Andy: Hard to knock the combo of Finley and Houston
Habes: They didn't need Houston, but he's a nice addition. Losing PJ hurts; starting Chucky's worse
DB: They heat have a strong squad with a below average PG, this will hurt them but they should be competitive.
7. Portland Trailblazers (44 votes)
Brian: Rock solid team
Ahsan: DB is easily among the most beloved GMs in this league. He's just such a nice dude. Pleasant to talk trade with, chill as hell and everybody wants to see him succeed. Even when he swept me in the postseason, I wasn't even mad because it's The Don. Ricky Davis looks next level now and Baron seems to have gotten his act together. The frontline of Ratliff-LaFrentz-Jamison is SCARY. They need to add some depth however.
Sargo: Ricky is so damn good and got even better. I think this squad is solid af.
DB: Ricky, Baron, Jamison and a solid up front. Blazers look to have the starting lineup but maybe not the depth.
8. Detroit Pistons (37 votes)
Play: Duncan is the best player in the league. Pistons have some quality role players surrounded around him and with the emergence of Devin Harris the Pistons can make some noise
Brian: TIMMY
Sved: Tim Duncan. Also like Devin.
Habes: Tim Duncan and a bad supporting cast is a familiar refrain
Galo: Should be improved with better depth this season
9. San Antonio Spurs (35 votes)
Ahsan: I did love the Zo addition. John's one trade per season was a good one this season and his core looks amazing. Rest of his roster however needs work. Expect them to be a threat next season after they make their annual trade.
Sved: Should actually be competitive with Zo now.
Habes: Zo vaults them to contender status, but there are six players on this roster, including the likes of DJ Mbenga, Ron Mercer, and the ghost of Jamal Mashburn. Work to do
Sargo: Stacked! Craw - Mash - Tmac DJ - Zo, they just lack depth.
10. New Orleans Hornets (17 votes)
Play: Very curious to see how this Iverson/Webber dynamic works out. Okur had a very good TC and looks to take the next step in his development.
Andy: Aging but still a solid line-up overall
Sved: Weird moves set them back.
DB: Hornets had a title contending team last year but took a couple steps back, still a top 10 squad
Galo: Still good but lost a step from last season

Washington Wizards (17 votes)
Minnesota Timberwolves (15)
Phoenix Suns (8)
