SUPERSIZED VALUE LIST: The 100 Most Valuable Players in BBS (2005)
It’s that time of the year again. New draft, new TC, new world. The BBS value landscape changes every sim, but every season we like to take a beat and see where all of our players fall.
As always, player value involves production, ratings, contract status, age, camp status, player perception and alike.
I decided to go with 100 players this year, because more players caught my eye than during any other iteration. I’m guessing this has to do with inflation? Or I am just a sucker for more players? No clue.
I added two more tiers because I wanted this to be more specific than previous iterations. We always want to IMPROVE!
As a reminder, I ranked your players much lower than they should be ranked and it is because I have a personal vendetta against you.
Here are the rankings:
Tier 7 (100-87)
Young guys dudes that are nothing but FUN.
Notes: These are guys that initially made my “honorable mention” list on the Top-75 group but are now full members of this exclusive article! Basically, this is just fun youth with value. They aren’t good enough to climb the ranks of the other tiers, but if they were added in a trade, you would surely be appreciative and value the commodity. Besides my Mountain of a Man (MARTYNAS!), my favorite players on this list are Tony Allen, Carlos Arroyo and Kelena Azubuike. I’m also fascinated to see how Yarsolav Korolev develops.

Tier 6 (86-67):
Veterans who have earned new contracts and are paid like foundational pieces. Some of these guys may be billed as “overpaid,” but they will regularly fetch at least some value in a trade and can always be moved for one another.
Notes: You can poke holes at any of these guys, but you could surely find a significant piece in your rotation for any one of them if you are creative. People will lament their contracts in a trade(Griffin, Sheed, Moiso, Walker, Webber, etc.), but you’ll always be able to find a buyer. These guys are good enough. Or at least appetizing enough. Michael Finley is underrated. Alonzo Mourning is a Tier 2 player with a Tier 50 contract. Andre Miller is loved by only me, Steve and Erbes. Big Dog gets passed around for less and less every season.

Tier 5 (66-54):
High Floor, Low Ceiling Youth. These guys are all very good 4th/5th starters on contending teams and benefit from being on favorable/rookie contracts. When you have an excellent role player who takes up such a small part of your allotted $78M, you can make magic happen.
Notes: If you put up a trade block, every team is going to “like” each and one of these guys. Cheap dudes who get stocks and complement elite players? Sign me up Beidrinis, Chandler, Okafor and Kristic are all the same player. I am skeptical about Bogut but his ratings and potential keep him here for now. There is an argument you could put Harris or Calderon higher. Calderon is having a ridiculous season but I am not buying it just yet. My thoughts on Morlende were clear. The league doesn’t value him this way but if he were not expiring, I’d have him in the top 30.

Tier 4 (53-38)
Good Players. There’s nothing unique or specific about this group, just that they didn’t fit in anywhere else. They are too old to be considered prospects, too good or underpriced to be part of tier 6, and too flawed to be grouped anywhere higher.
Notes: Some excellent 3rd/4th starters in their prime interspersed with some elite older dudes. Really weird that Ray Allen has “F” potential. What the fuck is that? It’s scouted and might mean nothing, but we are all suckers for optics, and that has to impact his value. Shaq has taken a lot of shit and I think his value has suffered. I ranked KVH above Stephen Jackson and Antoine Walker because I am a man of integrity.

Tier 3 (37-26):
Enticing Youth. Not all of these guys will pan out, but all will be viewed as centerpiece prospects in trade negotiations.
Notes: I don’t think Deron, Amar’e or Dwight Howard belong here right now but I know the league feels differently. Based on their upside, names and rookie contracts, they would definitely carry significant value in a trade. I was very close to elevating both Andrew Bynum and Lou Williams to Tier 2. They both look absolutely awesome.

Tier 2 (25-13):
Really good players who can function as your best player but are ideally suited as # 2’s on the best, best teams. Some of these guys are # 1s but are moved from tier 1 because of positional scarcity or age. Others are younger and project to become Tier 1 guys soon.
Notes: Some fun players! Randolph and West don’t really belong here, but they are too good for Tier 4, so we’ll be nice to Kobe today. It’s pretty wild to see two perfect wing players in VC and T-Mac fall this far, but that’s just a commentary on the strength of the position. If you aren’t well above the mean, it’s hard to consider you to have elite value. Chris Kaman is a cheat code. How the fuck did that happen? I am probably insane for putting Kevin Martin this high, but I think he’s the type of player that flourishes in FBB and will have some 30 PPG seasons in his future.

Tier 1 (12-1):
The best players in the league, period.
Notes: Some hot takes here. LeBron is # 1 for my money. I know his turnovers are a huge issue at Point Guard, but the fact that he’s already a “B” rebounder at Point Guard negates that. I think he’s developing at a rate that makes him an even bigger unfair advantage at PG than Wade will be. Kobe is # 2. His titles speak for themselves. I was VERY close to doing a mini-troll and putting Billups # 1, but I stopped myself. But the man is averaging 42/6/6 at the league’s most important position and plays top-notch D. Chris Paul is going to be a stud. Ricky Davis has turned into a fucking superstar, too.
