JR’s 2006 BBS Draft Big Board
1. Brandon Roy
Ratings: B B B+ C C B
- Brandon "Kobe can't Guard Me" Roy is head and shoulders above the rest of this draft class. If he doesn’t go #1 we need to check on the GM who passes on him in this draft. Notes says it all, day 1 #2 option. Can rebound at the 2 is also a good sign. He is the number one player on my big board and expect big things from him in his career, barring any injuries.
2. PJ Tucker
Ratings: C+ B C- B C+ A
- PJ "I'm 6'4 but play 6'9" Tucker looks to be ready to contribute right away. This might be controversial to some, but if you look at the ratings and then the notes its pretty obvious to me he has the lowest floor outside of Brandon Roy. He will play SF in BBS and should, even though he is coming into BBS as a PF. His defense and rebounding are huge plus’s and having C+ inside coming in is a big advantage. I would still +8 his inside before TC. He might be a better version of Tayshaun Prince.
3. LaMarcus Aldridge
Ratings: B C D+ C+ C+ A
- LaMarcus "Mid-Range" Aldridge looks like a stud! My only concern is that he isn’t special on defense. I As you can tell I like low volume, shot blocking bigs on my teams. If I had the 3rd pick Id obviously go LaMarcus if he was there because I believe he might be able to get over 2 blocks a game and that should be fine. Will he be a good rebounder? Notes don’t talk about that. Scares me to think he would be 18/8/2 in his prime on a good team. Need rebounds to be successful. Either way dude is a less defensive Chris Bosh coming in!
4. Paul Milsap
Ratings: B- C C B- B B
- Paul "I'm Small, but Big at the Sametime" Milsap looks like a fantastic candidate to move to SF. I say this because he only gets steals, doesn’t talk about blocks. As I stated before bigs needs blocks unless you can get them from another position. Maybe you camp his blocks and prays he gets over 1.5 a game and he can be a PF. Either way I think Milsap will be a 15/10 guy his first season. Looks like a great rebounder and can score from what the notes say. Picking 4th isn’t bad in this draft IMO.
5. Kyle Lowry
Ratings: B- B- C+ C C A
- Kyle “Big Booty” Lowry is a top 5 pick. A team desperate for a PG might take him above of one of the guys I have above him and I wouldn’t mind much. Good rebounder for a PG, best chance for a PG to average 20+. Not the best notes, but name value and that A scouted potential might have somebody reach for him. He boxes out and can score inside and out. I wouldn’t mind this guy on my team. Good player all around, defense can improve drastically in TC for PGs so I am not worried about that.
6. Rudy Gay
Ratings: B- C+ C C+ C A
- Rudy “Im Not Really” Gay looks like he could develop into a good wing player. Not like this league needs many more good wing players, but it is what it is. My only concern is his handles. He will develop offensively and can already grab some steals and if he plays SG his rebounding wont be an issue. Those handles might be an issue. With these notes you have to camp his handling before TC. It is a must. Anyways, handling issues can be dealt with in the DC so not a huge blow to his draft stock. I had him at 6 before the notes and he stays there anyways.
7. Andrea Bargnani
Ratings: B- B- D+ C C A
- Andrea “Soft as Charmin” Bargnani is a player I will never touch. I don’t care if he turns into Dirk he will never be on the Jazz. Anyways, I still have him high on my big board. Notes don’t help his cause with me. Looks like his best spot will be backup 2-4 maybe even 5 for more minutes. He doesn’t do anything but score. His big soft ass will be drafted in the top 10 for sure because this draft class falls off after the top 6 IMO. A big who cant defend or rebound just what the doctor ordered for somebody to be CY’d. He might be able to develop at the 3, but he cant defend at all so IDK whoever picks this guy good luck.
8. Rajon Rondo
Ratings: C+ C B B+ C A
- Rajon “I cant shoot” Rondo looks to be a guy who will run the team for you and shut the other PG down. He cant score, but he can play defense and rebound. One might ask if I hate Bargs so much why is Rondo below him. Easy answer, PGs need to be able to score the ball to be effective in FBB. This hurts Rondo’s value tremendously. Still a good player to have. Gotta pump +8 into his jump shot and pray it jumps like TP’s did his first TC. It can happen I just think it’s a lost cause.
9. Tyrus Thomas
Ratings: C+ C D+ B- C A
- Tyrus “Get that Shit Outta Here” Thomas is one of my favorite players in this draft. Dude is athletic and will block your shot and then dunk on you. If he had C+ rebounding I wouldn’t have a problem putting him above Bargs and labelling him as the 7th best prospect in this draft. Sadly he will turn it over and cant rebound so he falls to 9 for me. He can defend and is athletic so hopefully some camps help him develop into a starter. Right now he is at best a backup big.
10. Randy Foye
Ratings: B- B- C C+ D B
- Randy "I look like an elf" Foye looks the mold as a super sub right now. Says limited upside in his notes only reason I have him so low on my big board. Not PG eligible so he has to be a super sub with his rebounding. Good handling and scoring will make him a good back up 1-3. Defense is a liability another reason to toss him in with the second unit. Don’t expect him to be able to start and you win games so draft with the right expectations and you might get your 6th man for a long time.
11. Adam Morrison
Ratings: B- B+ D+ D D+ C
- Adam “I Cry at Night” Morrison seems like a total bust, but Spencer makes fun classes so I expect Morrison to get Buckets! His defense sucks dick, and his upside is questionable, but who else are you gonna take here? I hope he falls I wouldn’t mind taking a chance on him, but I rank the players how I see them and nobody listens so here to hoping nobody listens about Morrison.
12. Renaldo Balkman
Ratings: B C- C- B B- B
- Renaldo “I Play Big D” Balkman looks very interesting. Im not sold though. He looks like a PF to me and his notes scream move me to PF before TC, but who knows what will happen to him. Can block, steal defend, rebound! Somebody take this man in the top 10 so I don’t try to trade for him please. A former Knick I try not to be biased, see Bargs and now Balkman, in these rankings. It happens sometimes, I wanted to put Balkman at 7, but I had to restrain myself. He has good handles as well!!! Lets hope somebody who knows how to use him gets him.
13. JJ Redick
Ratings: C A- D+ C D+ A
- JJ “I Shoot my Shot” Redick is a straight up sniper on the court! This tells you how bad this draft is. Im putting a shooting specialist in the lotto, yuck. Redick aint bad don’t get me wrong, just not a lottery pick in any draft before this. Wont ever have enough volume or rebounding to actually start so that hurts his value a lot. Another career backup taken in the lottery is a bad look for teams tanking. I laugh at these guys planning a tank job in 06. If you don’t get a top 6 pick it’s a crapshoot after that. If you haven’t played craps, the house usually wins. Anyways back to Sharpshooting Redick, good player just not good value in this draft for how high he will go.
14. Lior Eliyahu
Ratings: C+ B- A+ C C B
- Lior “Ill break ya ankles” Eliyahu, probably should be higher I can admit that. His ratings aren’t the greatest and him having elite handles already is a huge plus. I like the C rebounding as well! He needs to be able to score to be higher on my list. I mean if he was PG eligible he definitely would’ve been higher but being a SF it doesn’t matter much he can pass this well. I bet he gets taken in the lotto, but I wouldn’t take a chance on this guy. His notes just say elite handles and that he cant play defense. Camp his offense early if you draft him!
15. Louis Amundson
Ratings: C+ D+ D- B B B
- Louis “Ima Hustler” Amundson, is my kind of big! He does all the dirty work. The only reason I put him 15th on this list is because notes say he is a backup career wise. This just means what you see is what you get. I would try to max camp him before TC just to hope he improves enough to be a starter. Gotta remember Warriors bias in these draft classes as well. Oh man he might be too low. Oh well, people don’t listen to me anyways.
16. Marquinhos Vieira
Ratings: C+ C+ C- B+ C B
- Marquinhos “Chupa Mi” Viera is another interesting prospect. It says scoring isn’t great which is a concern for me. You want scoring on the wing and at PG IMO. He is a great defender and can rebound. Seems like he wont turn it over. Will he improve enough offensively to be a legit starter on a contending team? I don’t know obviously Im not super high on him because he is 16th in a shallow draft. These Euros are hard to judge sometimes. Floor is a good defensive role player which anybody could use. Nobody knows his upside so he is a low risk player imo. Most want home runs when drafting though.
17. Thabo Sefolosha
Ratings: C B- C A- C B
- Thabo “You cant score on me” Sefolosha, is somebody I want from this draft. Great value after the top 15 in this draft IMO. Defenders galore in this draft and a few guys who can score and not defend. Weirdest draft by far, but still youll get some value early and late. Thabo needs to get his Inside up so he can shoot more so +8 Inside before TC is a must. Hopefully he can get to C+ inside after TC and maybe he can do double digits as a starter sooner rather than later. Will be a solid player for a long time in this league, nothing special.
18. CJ Watson
Ratings: C- B C+ C- D+ B
- CJ “McGregor wore my Jersey” Watson has some ugly ratings. He was a Warrior so he should be taken in the top 20 regardless of any of the notes or Ratings. Good scorer according to the notes. I would +8 his inside asap, but see how he sims for the rest of his camps. Start him sim 1 and go from there. I think He might be able to start, but whats the worst thing that can happen you get a good backup PG in the top 20? Seems like a win win drafting this guy. Rebounding might be an issue starting, but you can get around that if he scores efficiently and doesn’t turn it over much.
19. JJ Barea
Ratings: C B+ B C D+ B
- JJ “I Get Bad Bitches” Barea looks like a fucking stud. Ratings better than CJ for sure. He didn’t play for the Warriors though keep that in mind. I think He will be better than CJ at first, but who knows what happens and if they are camped correctly. JJ will be a starter mark my words, unless he has TO issues. Notes say nothing about that so maybe hes mediocre in that department. He will be able to score with the best of them! JJ is a good player the trend with value after the lottery picks.
20. Leon Powe
Ratings: B- C- C- C+ C+ B
- Leon “I go to work Downlow” Powe looks to be a solid role player. A spot starter backup 3-5 type of player. Gotta camp him correctly though. Doubt hell ever be a stats defender, but he will be able to score and give you some help on the boards if developed correctly. Maybe not camp this guy till after TC to see how he sims, maybe he can block a shot a game, wouldn’t be expecting it though from his notes. If he cant wouldn’t waste camps trying to make him something he is not.
21. Shannon Brown
Ratings: B- B- C- C D+ B
- Shannon “Im really not Chris” Brown looks like he could be a solid player. He does have his faults which is why he is outside the top 20, but at this point you cant be expecting a perfect player. He will probably be a solid 6th man with the TLC he needs. Most people in this league fail to camp their youth in a timely manner and it leads to useless players. Camp him in his scoring and maybe handles and you might be surprised with what you get in return.
22. Daniel Gibson
Ratings: C- B B- C D B
- Daniel “Boobie” Gibson looks like a sleeper in this class. CJ and him look very close to each other with CJ getting that Warriors bias, makes him better. I can see Boobie being a very solid backup PG and spot starter for sure. He will be efficient in the correct system, so lets hop he doesn’t go to a team that wants to run inside. Yes people will draft a player that doesn’t fit with them, see it every season. Then again those are the people that don’t listen to me.
23. Yotam Halperin
Ratings: C+ B- B C C- B
- Yotam” Who the Fook is This Guy” Halperin looks like he might be the best player without notes. I think he might even be better than some players with notes and could be the sleeper. I like PGs with C- rebounding as well. Having no notes drops him and me never hearing of this guy gets him at 23 on my big board. 23 is MJ’s number so maybe this is some foreshadowing or maybe is just coincidence. Either way wouldn’t be surprised if somebody took a chance on him earlier in the draft.
24. Hilton Amrstrong
Ratings: C+ D+ D B C+ B
- Hilton “Stretch” Armstrong should be a capable shot blocker and with camps could be a good 3rd/4th big. No notes again for this guy, but remembering him play and him having B defense just reassures he should do over a block a game to start. If he has any juice in the tank I think he will be good value later in the draft. Being 22 kind of hurts the idea of him developing much more, but you never know. Hilton is definitely on my watch list he should be on yours too later in the draft.
25. Ronnie Brewer
Ratings: B- C C- B- C B
- Ronnie “Im Average Everywhere” Brewer looks like a solid player, but very raw on offense. I would assume he is semi athletic and that’s why he has B- inside. He never was a 3 point shooter so lets hope his jump shot is pretty high, maybe 65-70 right now. C rebounding just helps his case even without being able to see him sim. Definitely worth taking a chance on him after the lottery somewhere. Even with no Notes I could see him going anywhere from 18 on. Just depends on need and the GM.
