If you know that line, well, congrats! Anyways, welcome back to the hot takes house. Today I ask the original michael JR Lasagna and tears of failure and Jeb not about the past but about what's coming up. The future of BBS. The next step up. Whatever other corny lines you wanna throw here. This is the end for this season but I'll be writing down notes all off season for the start of next year. Before we start, let's take some ish into consideration:
1. This was before the playoffs started
2. This was pre-Nash. That, uh, may not actually change anything but still.
That said, let's go!
1. The Grizzlies, as currently constructed, will be CY'd next season
JR - Cold Take. Their team sucks as of now. I expect Lumley to be the GM of the grizlies after this next season. Grizzlies need a lot of help and have players to move, but as constructed they suck. Sorry Erbes you didnt get the best return for your young studs!
Lasagna and tears of failure - Not a Hot take: Grizzlies had a plan and then decided to smoke some erbes I mean herbs and in a state of paranoid panic traded away the future for a 500 team. Jeff needs to lay off the herbes and figure out what he is gonna do to not get CY’d as he’s one of the fungi’s here.
Jeb - 0 spice level here folks. this take is so bland Karen is gonna tell all her girls about this. Outside of Granger their best player is Chris Webber, the under acheaving big who has to be in a slow inside offence to work.
nybombers3 - HOT TAKE - I feel like this is more of me hoping then anything else. They have a decent amount of talent, even though it comes off a bit all over the place. They need to maximize the bit of HC space they have left.
2. The Kings biggest competition is in the East
JR - Cold take! Cavaliers are the 2nd best team in the league regardless if they sat on this team. I mean my Jazz might be able to give them a little trouble is we meet, but we are too young as of now. Cavaliers definitely their biggest challenge.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Hot take as the Jazz are for real, and the Mavs are also built for speed. Either of those teams is just as likely to beat the Kings as a team from the East, however the odds are pretty low for any team to take the Kings out
Jeb - Little late to the game on these answers but i'd say this take is VERY mild at best... My very so so roster managed to steach the Kings out to a full 7 games by switching spicy turnover machine Lamar Odom and his all league first team defence to the 2 to guard Kobe, seems like it worked. The cavs repersent the biggest test for the Kings at this point.
nybombers3 - HOT TAKE - I like the Cavs obviously but having LeBron should give the Kings big time trouble. There is definitley more competition in the East then the West though. Cavs and Bulls especially.
3. The Miami Heat will come out of the East
JR - Hot Take! I expect the Cavaliers to come out the East like I stated. I mean Kobe has a chance, his team is very good. The Cavaliers just have more defense imo. We will soon see though!!
Lasagna and tears of failure - This is a Hot Take as the Heat will be lucky to even make the East finals
Jeb - Im slow and was hungover so this isnt in in time... I would have said very spicy since I thought the Cavs were the best out eas. KG is such a defensive monster and the rest of that squad plays so well around him.
nybombers3 - HOT TAKE - Just can't trust them with all the injuries they usually have. Plus I don't love their frontcourt.
4. This FA has the potential to cripple a franchise with bad contracts
JR - Hot Take! I havent looked at all the contracts being asked for but I feel like a lot of players have offered some solid deals. Yao not a max was interesting as well as Arvy! Prince gave me a slight discount as well.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Not a Hot take as we are already into teams being crippled by payroll, and it’s only going to get worse.
Jeb - 4 bottles of ghost pepper hot sauce spicy on this one... theirs NO one out there worth a max in this FA but people will be stupid as shit and offer it.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - I feel like teams will cap will feel forced to spend and players will get overpaid big time. That's usually have it goes.
5. Pace's value automatically decreases on a max contract
JR - Hot Take. Look at Baron Davis he still has value and I would take Pacce over him. And honestly if a player fits your plans you can find away to make it work salary wise.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Not a hot take as Pace will cripple a team with a Max. He’s damn good, but isn’t good enough to carry a team and Max’s should be used to carry a team
Jeb - Karen needs to see the manager this was suposed to be no spice but was very spicy... I dont get why people in the league think this dude is all that... maybe if you have four other players who are great... Id rather spend my money on a guard who can score.
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - I like him and I guess this goes for every player period but Pace at 600k is very different then making 12 Mil plus and he sure as hell is getting maxed. He'll still have value and be important but having him as one of my big contract guys going forward hurts some.
6. The Spurs and Clippers need to be torn down after this season
JR - Cold Take. I think they need to be retooled a little. Both made the playoffs, John has sat on this team for a few seasons minus moving Odom. I think he needs to get rid of Mashburn, and even move JCraw for a younger cheaper PG.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Hot Take as both the teams could continue on, however this might be a great time to tear down and tank for the 07 pick. If you are going to rebuild it’s best to choose your moment versus having the moment forced on you.
Jeb - blander than taco bell "hot sauce" both teams are far past their prime and are lacking the parts needed to contend... whos gonna save them from the hard cap?
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - I don't really see much of a future for either team. Tearing it down should work easier for Vacant (Clippers GM) and neither really has much to look forward to. Clippers I guess can say they have DD but Shaq and Kidd are getting up there.
7. The Hawks are in trouble going forward if they don't win the lotto
JR - Cold Take. I said Gooty was in deep doo doo this time. Weird year to actually wanna tank in. Next season is his 3rd season tanking, which shouldnt be picking in the top 3 anymore unless a lucky jump. If he still doesnt improve this offseason with a FA signing or trade I expect him to go bye bye.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Not a Hot take as the already are in trouble, even if they win the lotto. Unless Wagner blows up in TC, Bynum isn’t enough, and Footy doesn’t have a ton of pieces to build a team.
Jeb - Just eat a Hot pepper already... this take is very spicy. outside of Bynum the roster is void of talant as is FA... perhaps they can snag some of the parts from the spurs and clipps? that may help them but its gonna be tough for ol Footy
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - Yeah, don't see it. Bynum is good but they don't have anything else. Wags is going to be on a solid contract going forward but he isn't franchise changing. They have 5 picks in a subpar draft. After that, seems like, just their own. They need to swing for the fences and not play it safe in this draft.
8. The draft is really 4 deep then everyone else
JR - Hot Take. Yes this draft doesnt have the star power, its mostly role players and players you can take a chance on and hope TC goes their way once or twice. I actually like the top 6 to be starters, with 1-2 more guys that have a chance to be starters. Then I wouldnt mind a pick later in the draft Im sure a good role player is there.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Hot Take as Spence has put in a 5th player that will be an impact player. He hides players in the draft while it looks like it’s only 4 starters in the draft, there will be at least 5 if not closer to 7. It’s this kind of draft file work that will eventually lead to the demise of a GM or two for maxing players.
Jeb - maybe 1 jalapeno warm... theres not much more that I can see unless Spencer does something sneaky with some dudes in the middle of the lotto... If that happens it could be upgraded... to a scotch bonnet spice
nybombers3 - HOT TAKE - Can't lie, this draft is rather sad after maybe, 5th? but that is more then 4 so ther's that I guess.
9. Lums should have a team by end of next season
JR - Cold Take. Like I said earlier if Erbes makes no moves or make similar moves he has made recently he will be CY'd. Sucks cus hes cool. Lumley will get a team then ask me what for LeBron and say I want too much for him, or that I will trade him in a friends trade for cheaper. Erbes doesnt even PM me about deals so I guess I will be getting more mail in this league.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Hot take as I think there is only one team going up for CY, but Erbes will pull off a miracle and somehow reset his CY.
Jeb - Shaq is sweating at hot ones with this level... I'm gonna have second rounders again soon... please give him a team so I can give him my seconds. Also the clipps should probably have an active GM to rebuild them...
nybombers3 - COLD TAKE - Give him a team. He deserves it. I guess it depends on where but he should no doubt be next.
10. The trading of Arenas barely moved the neddle for the Pistons
the original michael - COLD TAKE - Yah, it's unfortunate, but let's look at it. He has Duncan and Gil. Two elite players. If he can add talent and depth around them, watch out. I hate Sheed and Shard is a JAG, so yah. They need more pieces.
JR - Hot Take. I think they improved in the short term for sure. I believe their record improved after acquiring Arenas. Won 50 games, but Im worried if they have anymore asssets to improve this team, because they are not true contenders as of now.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Not a Hot take at all, as while this is the most talent Duncan has ever had around him, there is zero good depth coming off the bench, and will once again come up short getting a ring. While Duncan is the best player in the league, he will forever be a curse to the GM that holds him.
Jeb - Hot stuff - I was very shocked how little this helped them. I would assume two of the leagues best playerss could do something... apparently you gotta have a team around them.
nybombers3 - HOT TAKE - Barely is a bit of a strech so I'll call hot take but they do still need to make moves. They have a few guys on big deals. One of them should be moved to give them some flaxability. They have the core down, just need to work on what's around them.
BONUS:
Give me an offseason hot take
JR - The Jazz will not make a trade in the off-season.
Lasagna and tears of failure - Thee HOTTEST TAKE… In a surprise move ashes says he wants to rebuild, and for whatever reason, lums gets passed over again and Break is given a team. What happens next is Break trades all his picks and the teams last 3 1st round picks to the Kings for Kobe.
Jeb - Outlaw is the most active GM this off-season and actually fixes the Clippers to something respectable.
nybombers3 - Nenad leaves on a max contract and is then traded to the Knicks. Pace stays for a max deal. At least two big names are traded this off season in blockbuster deals.
