Quotes 'n' hoes,
Welcome to the Preseason Edition of Footy's Powerpolls for Season 2007
For this edition of the Polls we received feedback from 13 different executives around the league. The synopsis is that Royal rates himself and no one rates Erbes.
Onto the results:
1. Cleveland Cavaliers (123 votes, 8 First Place Votes)
Preseason Record: 9-5
JR: Still a great team. Expect them to win the east for sure
Stevie: Defending Champs. I do not think they have the best team this year...but you get the top spot out of pure respect from me.
Svedda: Show respect. KVH is gone but added some extra wing depth.
Ahsan: I said the Kings were the best until they became dethroned and dethroned they became. The Cavaliers may have lost superstar SG Keith Van Horn but picked up the studly Josh Howard and look poised to go for the repeat. Feel like they have to be the preseason favorite.
John: Defending champs start out 1! Doubt it lasts long though
Covid: Champs!
Ashes: Still looking good. Defending champs and KG is THE DUDE.
2. Sacramento Kings (117 votes, 4 FPV)
Preseason Record: 13-1
Habes: Retool complete courtesy of a gift from the Bulls. I won't miss you, Ben.
Mark: Best team for years looked like they were about to regress, and then they got Ricky Davis on the cheap. 13-1 pre-season, for what that’s worth. Team is still nasty.
Galo: Still the team to beat. Getting Ricky to pair with Kobe is scary.
DB: Front court might be a lot weaker now with Ben Wallace gone but love Ricky and Kobe.
Sargo: Elite team, but they traded Ben. Are they still the same team? We’ll see.
3. Dallas Mavericks (82 votes)
Preseason Record: 11-5
JR: Everybody drank the kool-aid last season im still not sold. Made improvements and DWade looks great though
Habes: Massive TC from Wade, good development from the role players, and big additions in Crawford and Nenad. Elite
Stevie: Habes is always wheeling and dealing...but this squad as it stands now is truly a championship contender.
DB: Legit, legit, legit. Great squad. They're gonna be good this year.
Covid: Had to pick someone.
Ashes: Wade got better in the outside department. Great rebounding all around. Solid ass team.
4. Utah Jazz (81 votes)
Preseason Record: 5-8
Habes: LeBron's a god, but it's time to upgrade his friends.
Galo: They didn't look good in Pre but Bron is a cheat code at PG. JR will figure it out.
Svedda: Sitting on this many young role players was a mistake. Feel like they blew a chance to build a dynasty around Lebron.
Ahsan: LeBron and friends back at it again. Reigning Midwest Division winner that took the Kings to 7 last season are now one year older and one year wiser. The West is tougher but they are still among the toughest of the tough. Should be fun to see them grow and win.
5. Seattle Supersonics (72 votes)
Preseason Record: 10-3
Habes: Added everything under the sun to the CP3/D12 foundation. Have the assets to add another elite wing--watch out if they do.
Mark: This team is pretty loaded tbh. I still need to make another trade though so I’m outside looking in
Galo: The biggest threat to the Kings Finals path is Seattle right now.
Svedda: Three wing scorers with low volume shot blockers. Seen this one before.
DB: My friend mark has a better squad then I led on before. They're really good. Fun young squad and CP3. My god.
Covid: His team is solid.
6. New York Knicks (62 votes)
Preseason Record: 11-3
JR: Skillz trades so much I think it hurts more than helps at times. Great GM sometimes takes a step back then 4 steps forward with his next trade. Team is a bunch of role players and Billups see him starting hot.
Ahsan: Chauncey and Jefferson is such a sick backcourt. Posey a damn good SF. Then he stole Lior Eliyahu in the draft to join Mike Dunleavy giving him amazing wing depth. People tend to underestimate the importance of depth. Up front, he has Haslem, Nene, Marty, ToddMac and Scola rounding out the craziest big rotation you might ever see. Skillz always making moves to improve the team. He could use a backup PG. This might not be the prettiest roster but it is one of the best.
Ashes: Really nice team. Well-rounded. Everything will change by Sim 3.
Sargo: Skillz! He’s always here
7. Indiana Pacers (56 votes)
Preseason Record: 6-5
JR: Team is loaded. Sargo did a good job but his window isnt very long
Stevie: I'm just not buying in completely without a PG. Manu is nice, but who is the 2nd option scorer on this team?
Svedda: Not sure they have enough efficient scoring on this roster. Finally admitting Nate sucks is a good first step.
Ahsan: Mike doing a great job at building a team, hopefully he doesn't get discouraged and tear this one down after 20 days. Right now however, they've got Zo-Ben with former Rockets Etan Thomas and Rasho Nesterovic rounding out the big rotation. A wing rotation featuring Smoove, Manu and Ariza. The PG situation is questionable but I believe in Nate! He has the handles to not fuck it up as they got a great thing going.
John: Woah! Another big jump. Wallace/Zo/Smith is the frontcourt of dreams, at least for one season
Covid: Frontcourt is almost as good as Nuggets
8. Detroit Pistons (40 votes)
Preseason Record: 8-4
JR: Love the duo and they added AK47 who I think fits perfectly. Could be higher by ASW
Svedda: Don't think the Kirilenko moves helps them much. Still a two man team, but those two are very good.
Ahsan: Last I checked, they still have Duncan and Arenas. Added Kirilenko this offseason which is cool. Not all that fond of the rest of their roster but that Big 3 is so nice. If Galo can add pieces, watch the fuck out.
9. Chicago Bulls (34 votes)
Preseason Record: 9-7
Mark: I didn’t like the Ricky Davis trade but Louuuuuu is about to be unleashed
Galo: I like the GWall move as a backup at 3,4. They should be even better on the boards and with stocks.
Stevie: Not sure why they traded Ricky Davis for that package, BUT it's Lou Will's time. Looking forward to him scoring at Will
John: Made a deep playoff run, traded Ricky for youth but Lou+TP is divine.
Ashes: Took a step back this year imo trading Ricky, but should still be very good and set up for longevity
10. Washington Wizards (19 votes)
Preseason Record: 8-6
JR: Jah is not very talkative but assembed a very solid team. Needs a star to compete for a ship though
Habes: Perk is getting overlooked as a replacement for Haslem. Deng's huge TC means JAH adds a sorely-needed low turnover option scorer to his SL.
Mark: Lost Haslem but Jah will figure out a way to win 48 games, and that’s good enough for me
DB: These Wizards have some good players. Still a top team. Jah might tear down though. TBD.
Ashes: Lost Haslem, but should still be fine. Probably time to consider re-tooling or outright rebuilding.
Others Receiving Votes:
Denver Nuggets (11 votes, 1 FPV)
New Jersey Nets (7)
Portland Trailblazers (6)
Minnesota Timberwolves (5)
LA Lakers (3)
