The Sidekick Roundtable
We have quite a few co-GMs and assistant GMs in the league and I thought they deserved their moment in the spotlight! Let's get to know some of these guys and how they work in their partnership!!
The ultimate partnership.
We have quite a few co-GMs and assistant GMs in the league and I thought they deserved their moment in the spotlight! Let's get to know some of these guys and how they work in their partnership!!
The ultimate partnership.
1. Some of you guys are BBS vets, while some are not. I know insane/play, heard of chipper, but the rest are a mystery. Could you guys give us a little bio, leagues you've been in the past, any successes? Let's get to know ya!
Frongi (Clippers): I’ve been in two leagues in the past, somewhere in the range of 8 years ago I got my start. No idea what the league or site was called or who was in it. I remember the commish was good so I’m guessing that was Spencer maybe? Spencer is great. I got the email for this site so I must have been a part of a league Spencer was in as he got my email somehow... I was also in another league that lasted one season I think I was the Jazz and we won the title. I started with a good real life roster with Stockton/Malone and made some win now moves from there.
Insane (Bulls): I've been doing FBB/STB since like 2004 or something like that, when I just started high school. I've been in a ton of leagues that I don't really remember at this point. My first league was ABCA which I think jah was in. Some other ones you guys might know of are NBN (WillC), GTSL (Bundy) and some of the versions of BBS. I don't remember much about past successes - I've won titles here and there and I can usually build good teams, but nothing really stands out to me.
Play (Bulls): BBS Legend and one of the greatest to ever do this.
2. What drew you to your current GM and team? Friends with the GM? Does he send dick pics on demand? Do you send dick pics on demand? Easier route to full GM?
Frongi: I really wanted a team but was late to it. I noticed Darrell said he was new in a thread so I pmed him and asked if he wanted any help, just because I wanted to be involved. Thankfully he said yes. The next day, he got the #2 and picked Duncan so it’s been pretty easy to be on the same page. We get along well and he’s a good guy. I just try not to overstep my bounds since it is his team!
Insane: I still talk to play on hangouts and he messaged me last week with a link to the boards. Since I'm still in lockdown over here with no job for now and a shitload of free time, I said why not. In the near future, when I get back to work and school, I probably won't have enough time to do all the things necessary so I told play we should co-gm and here we are. Unfortunately he only wanted to be the Bulls, which is bullshit.
Play: I've known insane for 10+ years from previous sim leagues. We co-gm'd a few years ago in a sim and it was pretty successful. He's easy to get along with and we usually have the same mindset about building a team.
Spencer and Play in dress up? We'll never know.
3. Batman had Robin. Frodo had Samwise. Shrek had Donkey. Do you view yourself as a sidekick, and if so, which famous sidekick would you be? Or if it's partner - which famous duo?!
Frongi: I would say a little of both, maybe more of a mentor than anything. I feel like it’s hard as a new GM as you almost always get ripped off once, I know I did, so kind of explaining some things and getting Darrell through the learning curve faster than someone on their own is my main role. I don’t know who a famous mentor in a duo is off the top of my head though.
Insane: I've been re-watching the Wire and I think play and I are similar to Bunk and McNulty. We're partners, we're good at what we do and we cuss at each other a lot. play is more of a loose cannon, well he used to be anyway, way more confrontational, so he'd be like McNulty. I'm more laid back and I color inside the lines more, so I'd be Bunk.
Play: Sidekick? I'm Jordan and Insane is Pippen.
4. I have both had an assistant/co GM in the past and have been an assistant/co GM. I always found it a little awkward. Are you finding it challenging to stay involved? Does your GM come to you for advice often? Does teamwork make the dream work?
Frongi: It hasn’t been awkward at all. I try to stay cognizant that it’s not my team and try not to be overbearing. At the same time I am definitely hitting him up with ideas and suggestions all the time lol. I also pm people on my own too regarding trades. And Darrell does the same in terms of ideas and sending pms.its also nice/fun to have a 100% ally.
Insane: Nah, we've co-GM'ed with each other before so it's not a problem. We check sims in the morning, bullshit about the team and we talk about moves we can do and possible player targets. I'd say we're a pretty damn good team, the only thing that pisses me off is when play gets me to talk trade with people he doesn't want to talk to. Asshole.
Play: I'm familar and friendly with a lot of the GMs in this league, so its pretty easy to stay involved and shoot the shit with the guys around the board. If Insane gets any trade offers we usually both go over the offers and see if its a good fit for our team. He has the final decision on what trades/transactions thats we pursue.
Break in his fanciest dress and Chipper looking buff. Sounds about right.
5. We all know break needed an assistant GM and I'm glad chipper stepped up to help. Do you look around the league and see any other opportunities to get more guys involved as an AGM? Any current GMs that could use one (myself included!)?
Frongi: An assistant GM making sense for a team really has as much to do with the head GM’s personality as it does his ability. They’ve got to truly want a co GM. So I don’t know who that fits.
Insane: Um well the less active guys could probably use help from game or somebody. I used to call people out by name but I'm more chill now so I'll just say everyone knows which GM's aren't pulling their weight. Dudes are taking days to respond to trade proposals etc, take some help if you need it.
Play: I don't see the Sonics GM around often, he could possibly use an AGM. Because Greeme and Ashes are on the other side of the world they could potentially use someone to take control during the day. Besides that I think most of the guys here are FBB vets or they already have an AGM in place.
6. I'm not quite sure when everyone signed up to tag team, but have there been any moves that the other side of your partnership has made that you wish you would have been involved in? Or maybe a pick in the creation draft that you wish you could change?
Frongi: Everything Other than Duncan has been a collaboration. Duncan was the right pick so happy there.
Insane: I think the draft went really well for us, especially where we were picking but we both agree that we should've looked elsewhere on one of our picks. This player wasn't a need, we could've taken a rebounder there which would've really solidified us as a solid team. Since Play won't stop fucking bitching about it, I'll admit this was my pick and take the blame.
Play: I can't speak on the pick that we would change because it could lower his trade value. I feel like we only made ONE bad pick the entire draft. We nailed it besides selecting this unnamed player.
I would pay very good money for us all to get stuck on an island together. Wouldn't have to worry about amount because I'd be dead within 15 minutes!
7. If you and your assistant/co-GM were stuck on a deserted island, who do you think would be the first one to kill the other and eat him? Or would you guys get along and survive together in harmony?
Frongi: Haha. I think we would find a way off the island through teamwork! We could also shit talk about the other gms so we’d have something to talk about for sure lol.
Insane: Nah, we'd be chill. We've been friends for a long ass time so there probably wouldn't be problems. Play gonna have to do most of the cooking though.
Play: We would get along and survive together. No homo shit.
This is how happy I want all of our GM partnerships to be!
8. So I went on a marriage counseling website to give you guys some questions to ask your GM if you ever find yourself in trouble. I think some of them are pretty good. I'd like you to answer the following as if I was your co-GM.
a. Are our expectations reasonable of each other?
Frongi: I don’t think either of us has explicit expectations. I’m happy to help as long as he lets me, and right now he’s happy for whatever level of help and time I give. I plan to stick around rather than jumping at the chance to run my own team, because the clips are so damn good and have a bright future.
Insane: It's not reasonable that I have to deal with all the shitty trade offers. Stop that shit bruh.
Play: Yes, we both had pretty good success in sim leagues before, so we expect that to continue here.
b. Do we still trust each other?
Frongi: I do 100%! We don’t do something without consulting the other. He could do something without consulting me of course, wouldn’t be right for me to do it though.
Insane: Play would take Usher over Chris Brown so I'm not sure if I can trust that man. I'll keep him at arm's length until that's resolved.
Play: Without a doubt.
c. What kind of love do you feel for me now?
Frongi: I love that he picked Duncan lol. Was smart to ask Spence for help.
Insane: I only love my bed and my momma I'm sorry.
Play: STFU
d. Are there any unresolved issues?
Frongi: Not one!
Insane: Fuck the Blackhawks.
Play: Not at all.
So in conclusion, it appears that some of our GM partnerships are working out well. While others are too busy to answer my damn questions!!!!!
