Not pick me #1 overall??? You wild bro!
1. Orlando Magic -- Gilbert Arenas PG 6'3'' 191 19 B B C D+ D+ A
Some may disagree, but I feel like the first pick is an easy one for the Magic if they end up here. For some teams maybe playing it safe is the move. The Magic only currently have one player worth anything in Antoine and with camps he can fit an outside offense pretty well as a SF. Arenas does not play positional defense but it has been hinted that he does steal the ball. With the highest inside and outside in this class as a PG it just seems silly to pass on the potential here. With the low passing and hopefully manageable turnovers he has the highest ceiling in this class for sure!
2. Phoenix Suns -- Pau Gasol C 7'0'' 250 21 B C C C+ C+ A
If the draft plays out this way then the Suns should be pretty happy. They already have Baron Davis at PG so adding a big man who can adapt to SF if needed is not a bad pick here at all. Pau is CLOSE to both B- defense and rebounding. After RCs he should already be there! I just question the ceiling of this big man. He should be a good player who can hold his own as a shot blocker and rebounder eventually but he is unlikely to be a guy you can build around. Baron and Pau is a good start though!
3. Los Angeles Lakers -- Tony Parker PG 6'2'' 185 19 B- C C B- D+ A
Oof. Not a lot to be found here on the Lakers. The Lakers are another team I'd put Arenas first for if they make the jump. If they do end up picking here they can just pick their top prospect with no fear of them being blocked or blocking someone else. Since this team is committed to a three year tank most likely I feel like Tony is the move here. He is RAW but has the highest C outside in the draft and middle of the pack B- inside. A 19 year old PG with B- C+ scoring entering TC and low passing is a PG I am interested in. He will need patience but all the Lakers have is time.
4. Washington Wizards -- Joe Johnson SF 6'7'' 240 20 B- B- C+ C C- A
The Wizards have a lot of youths but no youths I am very high on. Peja and Terry are solid players though! Just not sure they have star potential. In the tough East they are a few seasons away from making a playoff push, but because they are in the tough East I feel like they should make a safer pick here. Joe is that man. He slots in perfectly between their two best players currently and should be a more complete scorer than both. He has high B- outside which is nice and his C defense looks like it can be saved in TC. You know you are going to get a solid second or third option out of him so don't be cute and just pick the man. Redd is not good enough to pass on Joe here.
5. Seattle Super Sonics -- Tyson Chandler C 7'0'' 240 19 B- D+ D+ B- C+ A
This team needs a big man badly. I am not sure how GOOD Andre or Tim Thomas will be long-term but it is too early to give up on either. Gerald Wallace is very raw and Richardson does not rebound the ball. Not a fan of drafting either with Tim already showing potential next to Pierce. That makes this pick easy. Tyson is a raw big but he projects as a very solid center for the offense Seattle needs to run. I worry about his B- inside and defense both being the lowest in this draft, but he has the most potential still when it comes to blocking the shot and doing other things too besides maybe Pau. Just give this big man the love he needs and you have your center for the next decade.
6. San Antonio Spurs -- Zach Randolph PF 6'9'' 250 20 B C C C B- A
I like the idea of moving ZBo to SF. ZBo has high C outside and C defense already so a move to SF and some RCs could have him looking real cute. It is doubtful he will steal the ball or block the shot so his ceiling is a bit lower than you'd hope for there, but the good rebounding helps offset that a bit. He is actually my second favorite player in this class, but there is risk here if he does not translate to SF as well as you want. Then he is just a career backup. Not good big man!
7. Milwaukee Bucks -- Gerald Wallace PF 6'7'' 215 19 B C C B- C+ A
Sadly, the Bucks may be seeking a new GM by the time the draft comes around. You hate to see it but it seems he just may not have the time. For some this may be a tough decision to make but I think the Bucks would run to pick Gerald if the draft played out this way. He is raw and when I say raw, I mean RAW. I am sure his defense will go up when moved to SF but his outside is almost a C-. YIKES. His future depends on fixing his outside game and it may be too far gone. At #7 I like rolling the dice though! B+ inside and A- defense with B-/C+ rebounding is almost a guarantee for him. Save his outside and he is the steal of the draft!
At the very least he will bring exciting dunks for the fans!
8. Dallas Mavericks -- Jason Richardson SG 6'6'' 220 20 B- B- C C D A
Draft starts to fall off here. There are a lot of role player wings and bigs left but only one potential 'star'. Sadly, that star looks to have the most flaws of anybody that will be drafted in the lotto. Can he become a good enough scorer to overcome the lack of defense and no rebounding? We will see. At this point in the draft I rather see if he can than draft a guy that will likely just max out as a depth piece. T-Mac can block the shot at SF and rebound pretty well so this is a decent spot for J-Rich to end up.
9. Portland Trail Blazers -- Kwame Brown C 6'11'' 270 19 C+ D+ D+ C+ C+ A
The Blazers traded their top 10 creation pick for future firsts and have little to show for it. If this is where they do end up, big man we have a problem. Rip shows some potential at SG but they can really go any direction they want here. Since they are in the West, I feel more comfortable slotting in the big man himself KWAME here. He is already close to B- defense and at the young age of 19 maybe he will blow up in TC and become the steal of the draft. I do not love the odds of that happening but I also do not love taking a guy like Richard Jefferson here or a big man role player.
10. Atlanta Hawks -- Samuel Dalembert C 6'11'' 255 20 C+ C- C- B C+ B
With Captain Jack and Dermarr already on the wing, it is clear the Hawks need to go with a big man here. Dalembert will never be a scorer but he is already a solid defender who is close to a jump to B- rebound. He is a good fit for the outside offense the Hawks will run thanks to knowing his role. Just rebound the ball and pass it immediately! Can always use a big man like him.
11. New York Knicks (from 76ers) -- Eddie Griffin PF 6'10'' 220 20 C+ C D+ B- C+ B
Another big man off the board! I do have doubts about Eddie's potential but I am going to assume he is one of the best shot blockers in this class. His defense is almost a B already and his inside and rebounding are not too far off of jumping to B-. Not sure he will have the strength to play C which does limit his value a bit. I think he projects as a solid PF though in an outside offense who can give you a solid 8/10/2! He is a good fit here for the Knicks if they keep the pick.
12. Boston Celtics -- DeSagana Diop C 7'0'' 300 19 C D+ D B- C+ A
Big man what's happening! The Celtics keep the run going with Diop. They are pretty set at PG, SG and SF but need a shot blocker BAD. Well good news, Diop can block the shot! Can he do anything else? Don't ask too much of the man! His rebounding actually is close to Dalembert's which means it is also close to a jump to B-. Not a lot of boom potential here but he will have a long career off the bench and with some luck he may even be a starter.
13. Detroit Pistons -- Richard Jefferson SF 6'7'' 233 21 C+ B- D+ B- C B
The Pistons may end up making playoffs, but if they do stay in the lotto going BPA is the move here. Some may wonder why NBA Champion Richard Jefferson fell this far. The middle of the pack C+ inside scoring worries me and I just did not see a good fit for him up this point. With no young wing currently on the roster he injects some much needed YOUTH into this roster. Can he ever be an option scorer? I am not sure. He can be a very solid third wing at worst though!
14. Sacramento Kings -- Brendan Haywood C 7'0'' 268 22 C D+ D+ B- C+ B
A tank job gone wrong. Kobe just wants playoff basketball too much! I expect the Kings to move this pick for a veteran but if they do keep the pick they can look for a SF or a big man here. Not a lot of great options though! I put a lot of thought into it and finally decided on Brendan. This team needs a big man bad and he is yet another one who will know his role. His rebounding is close to a jump and he should block the shot. A good fit here for Sacramento.
A big man only Ahsan could love.
15. Houston Rockets -- Eddy Curry C 7'0'' 295 19 B D+ D C C A
It has been a disaster season so far for Houston. This team has very limited talent yet is picking this late in the draft. Ahsan is pretty washed up so when he sees Eddy Curry his eyes will light up. They both love a good big mac! Not exactly sure where Eddy projects as a starter and that is why I have him slipping this far in the draft. No defense, no rebounding, no outside game. But he has the most potential left at this point I'm sure and the Rockets need to risk it for the biscuit!
16. Golden State Warriors -- Kedrick Brown SF 6'7'' 222 21 B- C D+ C C+ A
The West is bad folks! The Warriors are another team with no business being in the playoffs yet they are still in the race for the 2 seed. Not good! Regardless of how they got here, I think drafting a SF is the move here. There are some more developed options on the board still but Kedrick is the last one with A scouted potential. Does this mean anything? Who knows! But with how raw he is I think it does. With that C+ rebound he projects as a solid system player if he can develop his scoring enough.
17. Toronto Raptors -- Shane Battier SF 6'8'' 220 23 C B C- B C- B
Not sure why the Raptors still own this pick but that is another topic for another day! Bobby has the prettiest ratings left but Battier may be able to block the shot. Can he do much else? Well not really! But at this point in the draft I like drafting a guy who has something unique about him. He also fits the Raptors window as one of the more developed players in this draft.
18. Portland Trail Blazers (from Clippers) -- Bobby Simmons SF 6'7'' 210 21 C+ B- C- B C B
The Trail Blazers passed on Richard Jefferson earlier on in the draft and are likely feeling better about it now. Bobby is a solid addition here! Don't think he really has any flaws but he also does not really have any strengths. With how pretty his ratings are I also question his potential. Just get him to B- B+ scoring and he is pretty, pretty good though! Could easily end up being a steal if he has more left in the tank than I think he does.
19. Orlando Magic (from Cavaliers) -- Andres Nocioni SF 6'7'' 225 22 C+ C+ C- B- C B
The FBB Gods are trying their best to push this pick into the lotto for Orlando and that may just happen now with Grant Hill out long-term. I do not like that! If by some miracle this pick does stay this late in this draft, I like going with Nocioni here. It would not surprise me if Nocioni goes before Simmons in the actual draft. He had a solid NBA career and likely has more potential to work with. Sadly, he did not steal the ball much so not sure if that will be a flaw here for him or not. He actually has higher inside scoring than Richard Jefferson so the value here is not too bad. Also is only a RC away from making the jump to B- outside. Just give him a chance!
20. Orlando Magic (from Nuggets) -- Mehmet Okur C 6'11'' 249 22 C+ B D+ C C+ B
Is Okur ever going to be good enough to start at C? I'm not sure. Have to wonder how low his shot blocking may be and his rebounding is pretty raw as well. The outside game is nice and gives him a fallback option as a backup SF if playing as a big man does not work out. With no young big men on their roster Orlando needs to exit this draft with at least one.
21. Portland Trail Blazers (from Grizzlies) -- Jamaal Tinsley PG 6'3'' 195 23 C C+ B B- D+ B
After going with a big man and a wing with their earlier picks, I like picking Tinsley here. He is pretty old for a rookie and his scoring is not great which is why he fell to this point. Can always use more PGs who likely limit the turnover and steal the ball though! Nothing special but he should have a long career as a caretaker starter or as a backup.
Flex on them Troy! You're on the best GM's team!
22. Miami Heat -- Troy Murphy PF 6'11'' 245 21 C B D+ C B B
The steal of the draft! The Heat have no holes so can draft whoever they want here. They are a believer in the big man to SF movement and Murphy is a prime candidate for that move. He will not block the shot or play any defense and his inside game is not great but I expect low jumping to be dragging it down more than anything. Will Murphy ever be a good starter? Not sure. But he is a good backup from day one who maybe can be a little more if given camps and some TC luck.
23. Minnesota Timberwolves -- Vladimir Radmanovic PF 6'10'' 227 21 C+ B D+ C+ C B
At this point in the draft just go BPA of course. Vlad is another big man who will have better luck as a wing player long-term. Nothing special there but he will provide some cheap depth for a few seasons and maybe he has a good TC and reaches A- outside eventually. Can't really complain about that!
24. San Antonio Spurs (from Hornets) -- Omar Cook PG 6'1'' 190 19 C+ C+ C+ C+ D+ B
19 year old PG. Currently pretty shit but maybe he booms in the first TC. Maybe he doesn't. Won't know unless you try it! His C+ C+ scoring is closer to B- B- than C C so maybe he will be a solid player either way. The Spurs have time to give him a chance.
25. Portland Trail Blazers (from Pacers) -- Steven Hunter C 7'0'' 220 21 C+ D- D+ B- C B
Hunter should be solid at blocking the shot. About all you can hope for this late in the draft. His C rebounding is close to a jump so maybe he can be a third big eventually instead of just a fourth big. You can do worse!
26. Phoenix Suns (from Knicks) -- Rodney White SF 6'9'' 238 21 B- C D+ C C B
These trades did not go too well for the Suns. Rodney is a solid B- inside so maybe he develops elsewhere and becomes a solid depth piece. Really reaching there but I'm trying my best! Not a whole lot left so I'll go with the wing who shows some scoring potential.
27. Phoenix Suns (from Nets) -- Brian Scalabrine PF 6'9'' 241 23 C+ B- C- C+ C C
Just going with the troll pick here. With a move to SF maybe he can have a solid career off the bench. Maybe Spencer is a big fan and made him really good under the hood? Not like there is anybody good left so just do it for the very old memes.
28. Utah Jazz -- Raul Lopez PG 6'1'' 170 21 C B- C+ C+ D B
The stingy Jazz are very wise to keep this pick! Raul may limit the turnover and has B- outside. Could be a nice future replacement for Bobby Jackson and a solid backup until then. Much better than adding depth for their playoff run this season!
29. Chicago Bulls -- Charlie Bell SG 6'3'' 200 22 C+ B- C- C D+ C
Smells like a Chicago pick. Maybe? Has pretty good scoring ratings for a SG with low passing so may be good as a backup PG. At #29 you just don't want dead weight on your books so they'll take it!
