In a deal to kick off the frenzy, Kelenna Azubuike was traded in a deal for Rodney Stucky. I have to admit, Azubuike is a decent player but as long as you don’t expect much stats wise from him, you should be happy. Braz has been hired to become the new Raptors GM and has pretty quickly made his stamp on the team. No outstanding moves but truthfuly, there was nothing outstanding to be done. The stink of the past seems like it’ll be going away. The Raps seems like they are in good hands. The Boston Celtics very quietly signed Michael Finley off the FA list. I do wonder if anyone actually noticed that one. It’s a good signing for the defending champs who are currently on the outside looking in. Mr. MVP Tim Duncan traded to the Sonics for, well, Dwight Howard and scraps. Dwight himself isn’t much right now but the Rockets definitely had to move on from Duncan. His resigning could be very scary but for the Sonics, it’s all about the title. Monta Ellis has a chance to become a serviceable player in the eyes of BBS during this tenure with the Raptors. While Steve Francis is out, the Kings seem to be shedding talent and salary to make moves this off season. With so many teams entering the off season with cap, it’ll be interesting to see the moves that will be made this FA. The winners might be the ones who keep the cash in pocket. Rudy Gay has been moved to Toronto and hopefully he can fix whatever the hell is wrong with him. He was looking solid earlier in his career but he has not improved much and has actually taken a step back. Speaking of new GM’s, Heatflash has been hired to be the new Wolves GM and while he treats my PM’s like the former GM treated us at the end of his tenure, he has put his spin on the Wolves. I’m not a fan of Westbrook as a main piece at all but I guess it’s a start. Ilyasova has showed up big this season for the Heat then the Knicks. If he doesn’t resign for the Wizards, he can expect a nice contract with so many teams having cap. Jawad Williams was moved in a deal for Chauncey Billups. Jawad is such an interesting player, especially for being a 2nd round pick. He’s an excellent 6th man type player and with that contract, he should be able to fill that role eventually. The Grizzlies sent Kareem Rush into a frenzy deal to Atlanta for Mike D. The Grizzlies are clearly tankng but with so many teams out there tanking and with cap space, it’ll be interesting to see what they plan on doing this off season. Will they just tank another year or try to start getting talent? The Los Angeles Clippers just made a huge move, acquiring the formally jailed Chris Bosh and Caron Butler. While they should easily make the playoffs now, it can still be a tough fight if they don’t get a correct DC going right away. Oh and a PG. The Mavericks have been attempting to make a big move but have seemed to have a tough time finishing it up. It’ll be interesting to see if they are able to pull off the big move they want and need to have to keep up pace.
The Nets are apparently content with tanking, making moves to reset this year then tear it down. They have already moved star PG Billups to the Spurs. It’ll be interesting to see what a greeme rebuild looks like. His moves lately have been kind of all over the place. The Orlando Magic are, around. They do have a freebie year and the squad was rough to start off with so can’t knock them much but it’s gotta suck to be losing so much knowing there’s no pay off at the end. The Detroit Pistons are tanking with Wade, much to the dismay of a certain GM. Don't totally hate the idea but it's hard to tank with a player like Wade. Should've bottom'd out. Quincy Douby’s former squad, the Miami Heat are in that unpleasant rebuilding but making the playoffs area although it’s smart to try and reset. The bottom of the East is weak enough and the tanking teams are way to, well, bad. Might as well. Royal and his Nuggets are running one of the best tank squads of all time. While they aren’t the worst record wise, he’s done a terrific job of eliminating all his PG’s. Thabo Sefolosha, a recent pick up for the 76ers, has made such a huge difference for them. It has allowed them to push Melo to the bench and go off on some of these subpar benches. The 76ers are currently on a roll and look to be a scary match up come playoff time. Sebastian Telfair runs the show for the East leading Cavs. Say what you want about the Kobe deal, the Cavs are always making noise in the East. Eventually, it’s nothing but a good GM getting it done. Udonis Haslem was moved recently to the Knicks, who are running yet another gimmick squad. The Culo squad, we shall call them. I think he’ll be playing the 2 coming up? Would be interesting to see the boxes on that squad. Keith Van Horn has watched his chances for another title decrease with the Duncan trade. The Rockets do have some decent pieces going forward but if they don’t fit well together then it may be a rough road with Maggette and Curry getting older. The Wizards have made two moves this season. Pretty sweet. Xaver’s own, David West, plays a huge role for the Lakers along with Big Ben and JSmoove. The Arenas pick up was huge for them, as they needed a big time scorer. Thaddeus Young’s current squad, the Hornets, are almost officially CY safe and are looking to make big time noise in the playoffs. Granger is having an outstanding season and is proving his haters wrong. Your welcome for Kaman BTW. As Zev likes to say. Ok.
