Here we are with the first season of BBS2020 coming to and end. Lets take a look back at how the rookie class did during their first professional year. We have gathered all 62 rookies and ranked them based on how they performed during their first season. We have also highlighted the players that we believe will take home the rookie 1st and 2nd team honors!
1 Jamal Crawford PG Kings
Stats : 24.9 PPG 4.5 RPG 4.9 APG 1.3 SPG 0.2 BPG 2 TOPG 46.3 FG% 72.5 FT% 40.5 % 3P%Jamal has been a huge suprise for Sacramento this season. He was brought in to pair up with Kobe Bryant to be one of the building blocks of the future for the organization. He has come in and flat out been a superstar from day 1. If he continues to improve he will be a perenial all-star and he and Kobe will lead the Kings deep in the playoffs for years to come.
2 Stephen Jackson SG Hawks
Stats: 23.1 PPG 7.2 RPG 2.5 APG 1.6 SPG 0.2 BPG 2.8 TOPG 46.7 FG% 72 FT% 37.5 3PT%
Plenty of people around the league have seen what Crawford has done. I'm not so sure everyone has been paying attention to what Jackson has been doing. He has quietly been putting up almost the same numbers in Atlanta. Jackson is shooting decent %'s for a rookie and has been dumping in 23 ppg. He is another one that if he puts in the hard work this off-season he will no doubt be a star for the Hawks in the future.
3 Mark Blount C Suns
Stats: 23 PPG 8.9RPG 2.2 APG 1.1 SPG 0.6 BPG 2.7 TOPG 45.3 FG% 72 FT% 11.8 3PT%
Well his stats kind of came out of nowhere and likely will not be replicated for the rest of his career. However you never know and he might suprise again. I see Blount as more of a volume scorer this year for a horrific Suns team. He should make 1st team all rookie but likely would not be starting on 70% of the teams in the league. He does score though, very low blocks and so-so rebounding will hurt his future value. This is a season to remember for the big man though.
4 Kenyon Martin PF Mavs
Stats: 12.5 PPG 8.1 RPG 1.8 APG 1.2 SPG 1.9 BPG 1.8 TOPG 40.4 FG% 61.3 FT% 0 3PT%
Kmart is going to have a nice career if for nothing else his defense. He is very raw on the offensive side of the ball but he already has elite level defensive stats. He is the only rookie that averages more than 1 steal and 1.5 blocks per game. And honestly he is one of a few that do it in the whole league no matter how long they have played. He will have to work on his offensive game to truley become elite though. I'm sure he can do that in time.
5 Jamaal Magloire C Spurs
Stats: 10.4 PPG 8.3 RPG 2 APG 0.8 SPG 1.2 BPG 1.8 TOPG 41.4 FG% 75.5 FT% 37.5 3PT%
The reigning rookie of the month has been gaining some steam as of late. Magloire has shown an all around game this year. Nothing really flys off the stat sheet at you and there is no question he will have to improve in the future to stick in the league as a starter. However he doesn't have any huge holes in his game. He can score some , rebound ok , doesn't turn it over to much gets a few steals and blocks. I think he will stick as a decent 5th starter for his career.
6 Etan Thomas C
7 Primoz Brezec C
Stats: 18.7 PPG 3.9 RPG 4.5 APG 1.2SPG 0.2 BPG 3.4 TOPG 45.9 FG% 76.3 FT% 41.4 3PT%
The man who has become known as simply a house emoji or a bad Commodore's reference has actually had himself quite a rookie season. He has lit up the scoreboard the 2nd half of the season. The rest of his game is very raw however and he is extremely reckless with the ball. In the future if he is to progress his game he will have to cut down on the turnovers and probably improve his defense. He is off to a nice start though, so there is a chance his star can continue to shine.
9 Ernest Brown PF Heat
Stats : 7.7 PGG 8.6 RPG 1.3 APG 0.7 SPG 1 BPG 1.6 TOPG 44.4FG% 63 FT% 50% 3PT%
We all know the Heat GM hypes up every one of their players. This one might be on that sticks though. Nobody had heard of Ernest Brown before the season and to be honest most probably still haven't heard of him. He has quitely put together a very nice rookie season though. If he was given starter minutes the whole year he would be pushing a double double and would have a steal and 1.5 blocks a game. He should probably work on his FT% a little bit though to give him long term viability as a starter.
10 Quentin Richardson SG Rockets
Stats: 14.2 PPG 5.4 RPG 0.9 APG 1.1 SPG 0.2 BPG 1.2 TOPG 46.2 FG% 59.7 FT% 29.8 3PT%
If Qrich could learn how to shoot a FT or a 3Pter he would be a star in this league. He knows how to flat out score otherwise. A great athlete and finisher Qrich has brought a lot to the Rockets this year. His game is one dimensional though and if the Rockets want to have success in the future with QRich he will have to add a little more to his game. Hopefully during the off-season he can ramp up his defensive game and take his overall game to the next level.
11 Michael Redd SG
12 DerMarr Johnson SF
STATS: 11.1 PPG 5.3 RPG 2.6 APG 0.9 SPG 0.3 BPG 1.5 TOPG 44.4 FG% 71.9 FT% 39.8 3PT%
DerMarr has had no problem playing robin to SJax's batman in Atlanta this year. As a rookie he is averaging in double figures which isn't to shabby. He protects the ball well, however he will have to make himself a little more useful on defense to make the Hawks a long term success. It is rare to have two All Rookie Team 1st teamers on the same team but I think the Hawks may have done it!
13 Chris Mihm C
14 Jake Tsakalidis C
15 Jake Voskuhl C
16 Jerome Moiso PF
17 Soumaila Samake PF
18 Jabari Smith C
19 Mike Miller SF Mavs
Stats: 7.5 PPG 3.5 RPG 2.6 APG 0.9 SPG 0.1 BPG 1 TOPG 45.1 FG% 86.4 FT% 42.6 3PT%
Mike Miller has already changed teams once this year, but he seems to found a home in Dallas after spending the rest of his playing days in the state of Florida. After a great college career a lot was expected from Mike. He hasn't put out a superstar season by any stretch but his perifial numbers are looking solid. I think he will end up a solid player that will be a good 3rd option.
