Send an e-mail to the decision maker, see if you can set up a call to discuss. A little weird in COVID times but it should be a time set up face to face.

I just received notice that I did not get the promotion I’m bummed I’m also going to email the VP asking why not (in kind words, to better myself for future promotions) Any advice bbs? All companies are different. Do you have an immediate manager who recommended you for promotion? Position in the company that was open that was a step up? Do you have some goals you have to hit every fiscal year? Actually had my one on one scheduled with the Chief Compliance Officer at the end of the day and we discussed it. He suggested I reach out to the VP of the Department I interviewed for and ask what credentials/designations or what I need to improve that could could help me in the future ... so I’ll do that tomorrow. Still a bummer. I’m about to take some edibles and self medicate. |

Send a handwritten note to the decision maker expressing thanks for the opportunity but obviously disappointed you werent selected for the promotion. And ask what skills you need to strengthen to be re-considered in the future. You 100% don't write a handwritten note. Weirdo move, agreed. Not going to scan and email a handwritten note. |

I was wondering if you had a moment to chat in the next day or so to shed some transparency in the hiring process and what separated me from the other candidates who were considered for the position. (Insert some words of admiration for the company yadda yadda) and I want to make sure that I am putting myself in the best position to be a valuable member of this company for when a potential opportunity arises down the line." (This provides a beautiful opportunity to gauge where you are in the eyes of senior management) They decline to discuss with you......find a new job. If they do discuss with you ask what you can do strengthen yourself and your skillset as an employee. Be personable. Always ask if they see any avenues of upward mobility down the line that they see you potentially being an adequate candidate for. |
