Red’s PEF Draft analysis.* 
*This is through the first 20 days, not including today's sim.
Welcome to the inaugural RPEF draft analysis where we break down picks by the RPEF and see what individual value a player has, but doesn’t show what kind of value the player has to the team overall. Someone like Kmart would score midway but with the right team he affects the shot and causes opponents shooting percentage to go down.
A little history about the RPEF:
I looked at the PER formula by John Hollinger, and realized while I would not mind programming it, doing it in excel would blow chunks. So I looked at combining a basic version of his with the outdated ( (ppg+R+A+B+S-TO) to come up with a rating that not only rewarded a good EFT, but also penalized people from missing fee points. I’m sure Shaq hates this formula that I developed. While it really hurt his points portion of the formula, his nonstop rebounding and the best assist per game rate of any of the Centers has him as one of the best Centers in the game. Now to validate the formula I looked at historical data of some of the best players to ever play the game and then further tweaked the formula to reward steals a tad more than blocks as a block doesn’t automatically cause a turnover.
To do this the stats have to be extracted from the individual player page as only there do you get the stats needed to calculate shooting efficiency. For EFT% you need to have number of 3 pointers made, field goals made and field goals attempted to calculate the EFT%. EFT% is done to offset a PF who shots 3-6 on layups looking as good or better than a SG who shoots 2-6 on three pointers. Both scored 6, but one is only shooting 33% vs a 50% shooter.
Included in the ratings are the two highly valued rookie FAs and Manu did not disappoint. Now the ratings of the draftees is also affected by how much they are used / what was on the team they went to, as Griffen for the Magic come in 5th on the list, but on most other teams would he have had such an impact?
The list:
 Tinsley looks to be the bust of the draft. With 3 picks in the 1st round, the bucks seem to have had an interesting strategy. We will have to revisit this at the all star break to see how much the small sample size ends up being indicative of the draft. I have a hunch that things will probably change, but right now I am regretting not taking one of the Centers that was picked after me, even if in my original testing Battier really makes a difference for the team D. Okur just 2 picks later seems to be doing quite nice and is the second ranked Center of the draft, behind Pau.
Now as a further test of the RPEF a couple of examples were asked for, how does Houston look as a SG, but without a comparison, what does it mean? So, I thought, well AI is one of the best in the league, so let’s see what it looked like AI vs Houston. Then the Request of TMac vs Davis, so that is included too. His numbers are better this year than last. But he's the type of player that doesn't excel in individual stats, and is more likely to be a team D kind of guy. Was the reason I wanted KMart from the MAvs but he got a better offer  |

Where is Magloire on this list? he wasn't drafted this year. but his career RPEF as of yesterday was 16.387 and this season his RPEF is 16.433 which would put him in the bottom 1/3 if he had been. |
