oh and to keep bidding simple... can only bid for same amount of years that are being amnestied. that way dollars are the only determining factor. send bids to spence. spence picks the highest one. boom. done.

Hate the idea of amnesties.
Don't sign stupid deals.
If you do, get ahead of it and trade the player before he dies.

If you do, get ahead of it and trade the player before he dies. it's bad for the league to have melos, wades, lou wills become toxic pieces while they're still great players. i think we can find a compromise that inflicts pain on the amnestying team but allows these guys to retain value rather than rot. it'd be a major boon to the trade market.

It would need to be a penalty commensurate with having those contracts on your payroll. Amnesty implies getting off close to free. It constrains teams but i like the Hard Capped league for that reason ... really having to plan for payroll and keeping players' value a function of production and salary.

That said, Play's proposal in that thread is fairly draconian so I wouldn't be adamantly opposed to it. Seems fine.

Like i said a stretch provision could work. You pay 75% of the contract within the next 3 seasons and he is cut!

I think there is a certain art form to offering guys contracts. Those who do it properly have an edge on others.

Just offer shorter contracts guys it’s not hard not an individual level issue. someone's always going to offer the big contract. sucks to see personal responsibility arguments against improving our sim league! if you guys want stars to take up 1/3 of the HC and lose value at 32, burn in hell!

I remember original BBS when we didn't have a hard cap. That was fun.
Also in-season MAX's.

I gave Lou a lot less than the max and I didn't include the 7th year.
Still a shitload of money

We are at a point in this league where you should understand value of players by contract and by age. Obviously skill regression is the massive variable here you don't clearly understand, but you should be able to forecast for that.
No one in this league unless you are a Lebron type player should be making over 20 million dollars in their 30's. If you want to offer someone that type of contract, you should understand the repercussions by now.

We’ve been doing this for how long and people still offer the same shit contracts. I’m fine losing a star in FA if i am not willing to offer that full max. But I’m different

I think there is a certain art form to offering guys contracts. Those who do it properly have an edge on others. you aren't talking about the amnesty candidates if you're trying to keep wade, lou will, lebron, kg, al jeff, etc. after their rookie max, there's no option but to give a huge deal. there's no art to it. either you give them that deal or someone else does. the league suffers either way--these guys lose value and become impossible to move. our HC is 78 mil and second maxes get up to 30+ mil per season. that's bad for the league, and these contracts are inevitable if guys hit FA. if we could look beyond holding people accountable (especially b/c the amnesty would include a penalty), i think it's pretty clear that the trade market would benefit if we had a way to modify the back half of second maxes
