oh and to keep bidding simple... can only bid for same amount of years that are being amnestied. that way dollars are the only determining factor. send bids to spence. spence picks the highest one. boom. done. |

so let's say it's 20m for 3 years... you amnesty... you keep 10m for next 3 years... but you resign him for 12m... your cap hit would be 12m, it would not be 10+12. but if he signs elsewhere... you keep 10m for next 3 years that is horrible. if you get out of the contract you cant resign him for less |

or don't allow that team to bid and they keep half of the contract. seems easy and not complicated. the problem is you have to consider different situations. you can just trade a bad contract to a tanking team and then they cut half the cost. seems like not a big deal. |

but who cares? i agree with habes. these massive contracts have are hugely onerous and is why no one values vets in this league. you can say 'just don't sign them to that contract' but everyone who says that is also handing out maxes left and right.

Don't see the issue with a variant of an amnesty rule if there is some sort of punishment tied to it. Realistically, a rule like this would likely rarely get used but having it as an option can add a bit more flexibility to trades and signings.
All contracts can be traded and we've seen that but it would add a more interesting wrinkle as long as Spencer is cool with it and might add more for certain players who are getting paid 20 Mil for 2 or 3 years to sit on a shit team because no one can afford them.
