1 - it shouldn't be linked to posts. 2 - you should lose the guy and he goes into the next fa 3 - you should keep a cap hit 4 - you should lose a pick 5 - you shouldn't be able to amnesty the first 3 years of a deal No no no no no no no why so negative?

If you amnesty a guy you need to sit on a major road spinning a sign saying "I don't know how to properly value BBS players" and it needs to be posted on the forum.

And if you get into a turf war with a Little Caesars guy or a BUY GOLD NOW guy we keep Aaron on retainer to deal with the implications.

it's bad for the league to have melos, wades, lou wills become toxic pieces while they're still great players. i think we can find a compromise that inflicts pain on the amnestying team but allows these guys to retain value rather than rot. it'd be a major boon to the trade market. unless it causes even more people to overpay bc now they have an out a team wouldn't have that "out" often at all. I will never have the issue of having big contracts, I just think it would be in the best interest of the league to add something like this. I do feel the trade market suffers because of those contracts. I can't blame guys for offering perennial all stars the max they deserve. Gortat and David West contracts were horrible tho.

But yeah I’m for a stretch provision or something a straight amnesty I’m not for. Leave the team with some sort of cut salary they shouldn’t get the whole contract taken off. in the link marty posted, I said the team would take on some of the salary into the cut salary section.

A team can cut a player. Usually, when you cut a player, you still have to take their salary as a salary cap hit, but the amnesty deal means the player's salary doesn't count towards salary cap

maybe something like if you want to use amnesty... you lose the player (could resign in bidding), but keep half the salary regardless. has to be some sort of penalty for getting out of a shit contract

so let's say it's 20m for 3 years... you amnesty... you keep 10m for next 3 years... but you resign him for 12m... your cap hit would be 12m, it would not be 10+12. but if he signs elsewhere... you keep 10m for next 3 years

When I see amnesty I know what that means. If we want to be correct dont call this an amnesty that would be more like a stretch provision. Lets use the correct words, if i cant call 3 mill pennies compared to 250 mill than dont call this an amnesty. Very simple!
